Sigma mini-wide 28 2.8 doublet element

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I think I've come to the same conclusion, which is too bad cause the rest of the lens is in really nice shape. Now of course I'm learning all kinds of hard lessons about getting the lens back together once you take the focusing mechanism apart. ;)

Trying to get some shmutz out of a lens element but hard to tell whether this little doublet comes apart or not. Anybody familiar? No slots for torque wrench or screws and won't come apart at seams with reasonable torque. Thanks!

Well second best method worked: just fired the shutter a few hundred times and right as rain. Thanks Steve!

zeiss flektogon 35 f2.4 on spotmatic F?

Hey I have same setup here and was similarly heartbroken so I played around and figured it out! Depends if your model is like mine. Turned out it was the aperature pin on the lens that was catching the aperature indexing lever on the camera, not the rear element itself. I found that when the lens was switched to manual mode the pin would just flop up into the camera when held rear element up. So I left it like that and mounted the lens with the camera face-down so gravity could hold the pin in. Voila it mounted all the way! I switched the lens back to auto and it works like normal, open aperature (edit: I mean stop-down) metering and all! (Well, with limitations on my buggy spotmatic - see my other thread ;) ). So I think it's just the extra-long pin and probably only happens on the F cause of that lever. Again my model is the electric mc flektogon czj so dunno if it works the same for all. Oh and if I didn't explain it well let me know and I'll post pics. :). Oh and even with deeper rear element, once mounted no probs with infinity. Oh and be warned that removing the land is a little tricky to, just found that out. In order to remove the lens it has to return to manual mode so that the pin can fall forward again so it will clear the aperature indexing lever again. In order to switch it to manual mode, it needs to be partially dismounted , Maybe 1/8 of a turn so that the tiny pin that locks it in auto mode can be un-pressed. Then you have to tip the camera face down and jiggle it so the pin will fall into the lens. Then it can be unscrewed all the way. So, before putting the lens on, I recommend making sure The pin is floppy enough to be reliably moved in and out with gravity and jiggling alone. Otherwise, I suppose this could just be a very nice fixed – lens camera :-)
Oh yah I guess alternatively if you're only gonn a use it on this camera you could just file down the pin.

Well step one was confirming this is weird. Thanks! Maybe late I'll pop off the bottom plate or just boil it in a pot of naphtha and cross my fingers like usual ;)

No, it switches up and down but stays stopped down either way. But only after advancing the film.

Spotmatic F stop down behavior

Hi! I recently acquired a Spotmatic F off of the 'bay and encountered what I think is odd behavior based on what I can find here and elsewhere online. When using an aperature indexed lens like the smc 50 1.4, prior to wind-on and after shutter release, the DOFP lever (on the body; the lens switch is set to auto) behaves as usual by stopping the aperature down in the up position and opening back up in the down position. With the lens off I can see the bumper that triggers the aperature pin behaving in the same manner. However, when I advance the film the lens stops down and stays stopped down regardless of the DOFP switch position. With the lens off, I can see the bumper press forward while the film advance lever goes through its throw. This is sort of a bummer cause otherwise it seems to work great and be in beautiful shape, seals aren't even that bad. I can use it by metering open prior to film advance but that's just patching the problem. Any ideas? Thanks so much folks, always appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable people here at PF!

I hate to admit it but the more I pick at it the more I'm coming to the same conclusion :/ And unfortunately I've found that I'm much better at desoldering wires than soldering them! :D Thanks so much ctrout!

Hah! All I can say is that in both fields it's a lot easier to get them apart than back together! ;)

And yes I've been really impressed with how much some of the folks here know! And by their willingness to share. I hope to have the time and patience to get there some day.

OK for fun since you ask here's a recent, non-pentax image I did that I'm pretty proud of. I found a roll of Verichrome Pan 127 expired June 1962 at a flea market and shot it on a Yashica 44 . . . boy does that film hold up with age!

Tragic! Not knowing what I'm talking about I recommend taking it completely apart and seeing how it ticks, then getting a new one when you can't figure out what pieces go where! Or else there may be more helpful advice out there . . .

Hey 'cuse!

And I wish I could say I shot with the Argus yet :/ - it's on my project list for a full CLA, right after I figure out how to convert my working chrome MES to a black MES using an old busted black one, and transplant a good lens from a broken-meter 35RC to a good RC with a hazy lens. There's a couple of nice guides for the Argus C4 and my best understanding is that they have pretty similar guts . . . so wish me luck :)

Hi! I'm from Arkansas and live in Buffalo, NY. I started out 2005 taking my dad's old Minolta XG-1 around India which was a blast until I found out two months of pictures had terrible light leak! I put down film for about 10 years. From there I followed what I am now learning is a pretty common path back to film and into the world of Pentax. When my daughter was born in 2015 I bought a new a6000 and like many people who wanted beautiful filmic pictures from without spending thousands, I got my first SMC 50 1.4 and an adapter and loved the pictures it took. From there I rapidly accumulated legacy lenses but kept chewing my nails over getting a larger sensor just to gather more light, shorten my focal plane, and so on until I just said "duh" how about a large, disposable sensor! And so I got a Pentacon 6 and serviced the XG-1 and haven't looked back. I "accumulated" a number of fun rangefinders (Yashica electros, Argus c3, a Canonet QL17 and Olympus 35RC, as well as a Yashica-44 and a couple of found rolls of Verichrome Pan 127) which have been a blast to use. However it was that Pentax glass that first reminded me what I was missing and when I had the chance I grabbed up an ME super that was all locked up and took it apart and made it fire again and I can't wait to use it! So I look forward now to shooting pentax on pentax and getting a little set of lenses for it. I love shooting and sharing pictures but I admit I am a bit of a gearhead too and gain as much joy taking things apart and making them work as I do shooting, developing, scanning, and editing. My day job is general surgery so that's probably where the tinkering impulse comes from. ;) Sorry for the rambling introduction, not sure if I'll be lurking or talking but I've really enjoyed reading these forums over the last couple of years and learning from the knowledgeable and friendly folks here, so hello!

Thanks very much! Unfortunately I have looked this thing through and even in the explosion it appears the chrome/black faceplate does not clearly come apart from the big metal plate that is connected to everything back there. Would be much easier if I could just get the painted/chrome part off, but wan't sure if that was possible. Here's what I'm pointing at: . Which is really the difference between the chrome and black version. Just curious if anyone else has tried to do this and if the chrome part can come off solo or if I need to exchange the entire front plate (which I label "regular metal part"). This would be exponentially harder because the whole plate is intimately connected with the electronics which are, in the black camera, "busted." : / Thanks for the reply!

Hi! I've had some great Pentax lenses before but this is my first Pentax camera. It's a nice compact little thing and I've been trying to revive and spruce it up but ran into some trouble. I found an ME super at an estate sale with the usual gummed up gears and cleaned it up and the shutter fires and advances wonderfully now! And the electronics seem to work fine. The Asa plate is all stuck but I haven't really taken a crack at fixing that yet. However, I found a black version with fried electronics (I think - lights only show either over or underexposed in auto and manua modes but 125 and bulb work). My plan was to just transfer the top, bottom, and front plates to the working camera to give me working black MES, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get that front piece off, even looking at the service manual, ramblings, mysteryOnion, and the other resources I could find out there. . Any ideas? Thanks!
