Image of oaxacan ceramic piece of Fernando Félix Pegüero García (son of Alicia Leticia García Blanco and grandson of Teodora Blanco Nuñez Master of the folk arts from Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, México) allegory of death; related to celebration of Day of the dead: angel of death, music, altars and offerings in honor of the absent loved oves.
The esculptor specializes in small pastillage (raised clay aplications), super imposed smaller pieces of clay on the surface of the figure to create patterns or to add elements to the original form.

Crowned Christ, represented with a kindly facial expression. Tense muscles, pale countenance, broken sight and parted lips. The high forehead, big eyes, bifurcated beard and hair in the air are related to the 16th century Spanish sculpture. The downward glance of Christ indicates that the sculpture was designed to be seen from below.
In Tzintzuntzan, the ancient capital of the purépecha empire an the first capital of Michoacán, México, Vasco de Quiroga ordered the make a crucifix for each Chapel in each of the barrios.
Sculpture are made from cane paste (pasta de caña). These 16th century christ, all twelve of them, still exist, lovingly cared for by descendants of the same families in each barrio. The christ are on display for community members throughout the year, but on holy thursday and good friday each year they take on more public role.
