why I won't buy a k3 (Warning: Satire Thread)

Sometimes it happens but often it's easier for controllers to have multiple planes line up at one or two runways. Probably makes controlling easier rather than trying to remember "this runway is for landing, this runway is for takeoffs." I'm not trained ATC or ground controlling, I just have an interest in aviation and a part of a flying-focused family.

Sometimes it's wind, others it depends on what other nearby airports are doing. In Long Island, New York, and specifically the New York City region, we have 3 major international airports all situated very close to each other: JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark. I'm not sure how Newark operates but LaGuardia will change it's active runway so as not to interfere with JFK operations. If JFK is landing North, LaGuardia is landing East. If JFK is landing East or West, LaGuardia is probably landing North/South.

Thanks. I didn't, I completely forgot about them. After the air show I wandered around a state park for the rest of the day.

Thanks. I was actually on the ground a a bit off the flight line behind the photographers pool. Just sitting in my damp camp chair.

Thanks. I got pretty lucky with it. A bunch of the others from this continuous streak came out blurry or out of focus.

I recently bought a Think Tank Suburban Disguise 30 but when I got it I realized that it's too big for my use so I just bought a Think Tank Spectral 8. I'm gonna see how well that one works and probably sell the Suburban Disguise.

Saw this piece of driftwood at Jones Beach. I'm not sure what it was from but it looked interesting. It was also interesting trying to photograph this thing from so far away with the 300.

I took this last June during the Orange County Air Show in Montgomery, NY. It was almost rained out earlier in the day but around mid-day the clouds started to fade and the sun started shining through. It was still pretty cloudy when the F-15 came through but by the end of the show it was pretty warm and dry. I got a number of good photos from that day.

A good rule of thumb with many of these electronics (computers especially) is "If it's goes in/connects/latches easily, gently continue until it stops. If you have to force it, you're doing it wrong." Components like these are generally made to be idiot proof where there's only 1 way to connect it and there's a mechanism to ensure that it can only connect in that one specific way. Engineering can truly be beautiful sometimes.

Got the bracket in yesterday and I'm pleased with how it came out. Now I just need to get it milled out of aluminum.

Well no dice on the scan but a new render of the bracket. Like I said, the bracket is now in two parts, the horizontal base and vertical L. Just need to get 2 #5-44 screws. First is another 3D printed prototype at some point. (The blue color is just to make the part visible.)

DA* 50-135mm f2.8
DA* 60-250mm f4

Sigma:
EX 8-16mm f4.5-5.6
EX 10-20mm f3.5
18-35mm f1.8 Art
EX 180mm f3.5 Macro
EX 300mm f2.8 with EX 1.4x TC

---------- Post added 12-25-23 at 02:09 AM ----------

So I had been looking for the same and I think a decent solution is a tilt-shift adapter and a 50mm or so Hasselblad lens. Not really the best solution because it's not a native lens but I think it would work well.

I always find that Can't Stop and The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie by Red Hot Chili Peppers always seem to perk me up a bit. Rain Dance Maggie is just such a funky song you kinda can't help but sing and clap along to it.

It makes sense to me from a mass production view point. Why make things complicated by having different production lines for every little part when you can make the entire mount the same across the entire production range. Everything up until the lens barrel is the same so why not make it standard.

It was more than a month ago now but I do believe I saw someone using a Pentax at the beach I work at. I wanted to stop and ask but I was busy unfortunately. It looked more like a K-3/K-5 but I didn't get a good enough look to know for sure.

With a new job comes new gear! I just got a new full time job as a Park Worker 3 at the state park I work at so I bought a new backpack and a new lightweight jacket. While those were more convenience purchases, I need to buy new boots to replace the pair of seriously worn out ones I currently wear so I'll be buying a pair of Red Wings. And eventually I'll be getting a Dewalt impact and screwdriver set.

I recently bought a new Dell XPS 17 9710 with an i7-11800K, RTX 3060, 64Gb RAM and a 1Tb SSD. So far I absolutely LOVE this computer. I also got an aluminum riser to help the laptop cool down.

Unfortunately I've been spending more on this than I'd like. And out of the watches I've been trying to build, I've yet to build a dress watch... So I bought a cheapish Seiko and a leather strap so I have one. After this, I think I'm done. Back to saving for the K-3III

Lately I've been buying some watches. Bought an Alpha chronograph which is an homage of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and built a couple of watches. Right now, I'm in the process of building a watch based on the ETA 6498 with a self-painted starfield dial.

K3III Delayed... indefinitely

I haven't read all 26 pages so I'm sorry if this has already been addressed but on the topic of price, perhaps it's best to wait until we get some more concrete evidence of a possible price. Right now the evidence that the "price will be ¥250,000 to ¥299,000" is as wobbly as a tower of Jello. If we go by the current K-1 II pricing, the US price should be approximately 81% of the Japanese price.

K-1 II prices:
US: $1,999.95 (¥211,320.72)
JP: ¥258,500 ($2,446.56)

When divided, the difference between the US and Japan price is ~81.745%. [I]IF[/] the JP price of the K-3 III is ¥250,000 ($2366.01), then, if the difference in US and Japanese prices of the K-1II holds true for the K-3III, the US price of the K-3III could be approximately $1,934.10. Seems fine and not overly priced to me. If it comes in at ¥200,000, then the US price could even be $1,547! Even better. Either way, it seems like an incredible machine for the price.

There. Better? Have I reconciled everyone's differences? No? Well then how about we just wait and judge it when the actual prices comes to light before shooting it down before we even know of an official publicly announced concrete estimate from Ricoh themselves.

Considering that Sigma never made the 300-800 in Pentax mount, and they will most likely not make a Pentax mount lens again, why did you bring up this thread?

There's only 5 hours left but there's an auction for a decent looking FA* 200mm Macro on Buyee. Listing says light dust and "thin mold" but I can't see anything in the pictures. I've had good luck with this website and if you've wanted this rare lens... I have no relation with the seller. Just saw this and wanted to share with the community.

See it here:
