Thank you for all your input! I apologise for my shamefully late reply. I have a now 1 year old daughter and she is a black hole of time consumption. I seriously can't remember how it went from October 2020 to June 2021. I realise that you might have moved on and won't read this. Anyways.

I wrote down all the suggested lenses and tried to find them on the biggest auction app in Sweden. Vivitar lenses are very rare here and I couldn't find any. Some SMC A lenses but very expensive. I finally found an SMC M zoom 4.5 80-200mm that was affordable, about 60$. My daughter, the black hole, took a lot of looking after at the time and I had to put the lens away for a while. Took it out this spring and discovered that the lens has haze or fungus. I remember seeing some haziness when I first unpacked it but I didn't have time to investigate. Alas, returning it is no longer an option. I am, however, a tinkerer (if that is a word) and I will try to clean the lenses myself. Have been researching lens cleaning on the pentaxforum website and I'm quite confident I can pull it off.

So once again, thank you for your help and I hope to chat with you again soon.

PS. Very nice photos and nice of you to share! It's good to see what a lens is actually capable of irl.

Hi,

This is my first post! So excited to see what wisdom you can bestow upon me. I have a very simple question really.

Which is the best and most affordable zoom lens for Pentax K1000?

I'm looking for something around 80-200mm. Speed is of less importance. Anything under 5.6f is fine.

I have tried researching this but I'm non the wiser. Hopefully you'll have some personal experience to share. Grateful for any help I can get!

Cheers!

Thank you all! I look forward to reading and posting in the forums. I chose to become a member here because everyone seems very respectful and helpful towards each other. That's rare nowadays, to say the least.

As for digital VS analog, it's not really an issue with me, more of a mock argument between my husband and myself 😄 Like microlight wrote, it's all about the sacred triangle. Digital has huge advantages. You can experiment and get instant feedback, while I have to wait for the film to develop. Often I forget what I did to create a certain effect, even if I try to write it down while shooting. Anyways. I'll start posting as soon as I have time!

I'm Kat from Sweden and I'm an amateur photographer. I recently bought a Pentax K1000 to expand my analog horizon. I have an Olympus OM-10 and an OM-20. I only use analog cameras. Can't afford a decent digital camera and I just feel more comfortable with analog equipment.

I was trained in the ancient art of 35mm developing and copying in school, 11th-12th grade. Mostly B/W as C41 chemicals are poisonous AF and not suitable for raucous teenagers. I was hooked on analog from the start. There is a ritual involved in taking photos and developing film that you can't get with digital. I don't have a developing-kit right now but that's my next project. My husband was a photographer for a local newspaper and he can't disagree more with me. We have had many heated discussions regarding analog VS. digital. So if you're feeling argumentative - bring it on. Be nice though. I can't stand rude people, as I have told my husband often. Har, har.

Back to my Pentax K1000. I haven't finished my first roll of film yet so I have no idea if it was a good buy. If it doesn't work I'll get another K1000 and hope the second time's a charm. Why, you ask? I heard it's the best analog Pentax you can get. Maybe even the best analog camera, period. That's why.

My grasp on lenses, techniques and different types of film is relatively limited. I have been using either an Olympus OM1 when I was in school or OM10 with a standard 50mm 1.8 Zuiko lens and a Soligor 80-200mm 4.5 zoom+macro. I have only been using T-max 400 (quite good) and Fujifilm superia x-tra 400 (which sucks). We have one (!) decent photo store within a 40 mile radius and they only have a few different types of C41 films. I have moved over to Kodak Portra 400 and 800 even though I've read it's not ideal for landscape and architecture photography.

I must have a million questions. About everything from astrophotography and the best lenses and techniques for that, to how you can manipulate the ISO settings for different lighting effects, to the best agitation sequence for ilford hp5 plus. I will look through the threads when I have the time. I can be impatient when I'm looking for something specific. I want to know EVERYTHING NOW, MOHAHA!

That's the end of my rant. I haven't ranted like that in awhile and it felt quite good. I'm slow to respond to messages so don't get cross with me. I'm not doing it to annoy you.

I guess I'll see you around!
