Anywhere in Titusville along the river will be good. Near a restaurant called El Leoncito is a good place. Max Brewer bridge is also a good one.
If you're not already aware, you're going to need to be early to whatever spot you choose. That area was packed by 10am on Wednesday for a 430 launch. It will be even worse Saturday. KSC Visitors center is already sold out.

Nobody is switching to Pentax because of this 85. The 85mm market is fairly saturated across mounts with high quality lenses, often at much cheaper prices.
As for another poster's wildlife post, the 150-450 is a fine lens, but until Pentax gets an updated body with far better autofocus, speed and buffer, it will only be an afterthought to people.

Well, my SMC 85mm f1.8 came in yesterday, so I took it out along with the f2 90mm summicron and did a little A/B testing. So let's play a game:
Here's two sample photo sets. One in each was taken with the Summicron, one was taken with the Pentax. Both were taken adapted on my 61mp Sony A7riv. All of these are SOOC, with no edits done, except a small crop on one picture in the first comparison set to make it less obvious as to which lens it was. Shutter speed and ISO was identical between each pair of images. Both lenses were shot wide open (so 1.8 on the pentax, 2 on the summicron).
Try and guess which one is which. Obviously two pictures aren't the final say on how the two lenses compare, but this was what I was able to muster this morning. I'll let people discuss and guess for a bit before revealing the answer

I was starting to accumulate a lot of vintage lenses of various mounts (I also shoot Sony, so adapting there is easy). I did a Marie Kondo job on all my camera gear. Literally. Took everything out and put it on the big dining room table, sorted everything, and then looked at every item and asked myself "Why did I buy this?", "When was the last time I used it?", "When do I reasonably forsee myself using this again?" and "Did I get any real great photos with it, that I couldn't get with another lens?". After asking that, I'd say I cut my vintage lenses down by 2/3, keeping mostly just the SMC Pentax lenses, a Helios 44, and two R mount Leica lenses (which my next task is to do some comparison testing to determine if I'm keeping those). Sure, those lenses went to fund other purchases, but certainly the space I need to hold my gear is a lot smaller, and a lot more organized. I simply realized that I can't carry every lens I own with me, and I tend to be the type of person that keeps a packed gear backpack, and will mostly just grab that and go out, rather than pick and choose my lenses and create a kit for the day each time.

This is true. I'm a big voigtlander fan, and I have the M mount 35mm f1.7 that I use on my sony body. But the purpose of my discussion here is strictly on the Leica branded lenses themselves.
And really, here's what it comes down to: The summilux/summicron combo I got cost me upwards of $1500. The SMC K combo of a 55mm f1.8 and an 85mm f1.8 cost me only around $500. I could add in a 50mm f1.2 to that Pentax grouping and still be south of what I have in Leica glass. Again, I don't have the lenses to compare them yet and I will once I get them, but I am just curious as to how the Pentax holds their own against R mount glass from more experienced Pentaxians. I've seen lovely images from both lenses from both companies, but obviously, if you're not comparing the same scene taken with two different lenses, it's hard to really get a fair comparison.

So recently, I got my first vintage Leica prime lenses (a 70s/80s 90mm Summicron and 50mm Summilux). Obviously they have a legendary reputation.
I picked up my first SMC K prime lens (the 28mm f3.5) earlier this year and have fallen in love with it, and feel the image quality of it is better than most primes I've seen in that focal length. Ive purchased a few additional ones, but haven't received them yet.
So here's my question: for near equivalent lenses of a similar era (so I'm not comparing the SMC K lenses to modern asph Leica stuff), how do the SMC Pentax lenses compare? For instance, how is an SMC 85mm f1.8 compared to a 90mm f2 Summicron from the same year?

Hello all,
I shoot with a full spectrum infrared modified Sony mirrorless camera. For those who aren't aware, most modern lenses cause hot spotting on images (basically a very concentrated circle of brightness in the center of your image, making it mostly unusable) and so I have to resort to vintage lenses most of the time. I use a vintage Pentax K 28mm f3.5 with excellent results. I'm trying to see if I can assemble a good infrared kit from mostly pentax glass, but one of the keys is i need a 52mm filter thread (to try and share my filters among only one size). Obviously I have the 28mm, and I'm looking for a 20ish, a 50 or 55mm, and a 135mm.
Has anyone used any primes in those focal lengths with that filter thread diameter? Obviously I had good luck with the K series, but I don't know much about the M or A series lenses. Looking for something comparable (or better) in image quality to Olympus OM lenses
TIA!

Selling an irix 15mm Blackstone lens. Lens is in overall good shape. Optics are clear and sharp. There are some cosmetic scratches on the edge of the Barrell that do not affect the camera in any way, including mounting a threaded filter.

More power to the people who want to deal with film.
Personally, I really think you have to separate "photography" from just the casual "I want a pic of my kid doing this thing for the first time" shooter, from the "I want to make art out of something" person. The casual person I mentioned isn't going to care about the method, the medium, the technology, or the process. They just want an image to remember, and really, that's what cell phones are mostly supporting now.
I don't see much difference between the film shooters in the video above from what I would call the serious photographers, like those on this forum. It doesn't really matter what medium we're recording onto. We're not just taking our cameras and blindly pointing. We both do our best to frame nicely, use appropriate settings, and then capture. Certainly, they can't spray and pray in certain situations, and yes, they have to be a bit more intentional, but regardless, we are all following the same process.
The one person in the video certainly does make an extremely valid point about the environmental impacts of film photography. I'm certainly no Greta Thunberg, but given the way that the world is moving, film photographers can certainly expect to see a backlash against them from the environmental movements and either legally, or financially, they'll be out of a hobby.

I have a k1. I've recently picked up a few Pentax lenses (the Super Takumar 50 f1.4 and the Pentax k 28mm f3.5). I'm looking at picking up an 85 or 100ish as well.
I have the autofocus 15-30 f2.8. given that I like the above manual primes a lot so far, I was thinking of leaving my autofocus lens at home, and do this trip fully manual.
With that being the case, what other primes would you pick to take with you? Obviously the 28, 50 and 80-100ish lens. I'd imagine I'd want something on the wider end. I would imagine that 24 is too close to the 28 to be worth it.
I'll be going to either the UK or Germany, so lots of big churches, castles, building and countryside.
So any suggestions on something between 12 and 28?

I think market prices for manual (or af adaptable) lenses would hold steady. I could make an argument that a k1 would appreciate in price, but the fact of the matter is that camera bodies (aside from Leica) are a bit of a "disposable" commodity nowadays, and don't and will not ever appreciate in value.

When focused to infinity, my rear element definitely doesn't protrude, so I'll presume that it's definitely the 7 element version
To be clear, I don't really care if it is the 7 or 8 element version. It was more to satisfy a curiosity after having read the lens reviews for it. I was excited to get this lens, as I really liked the sample images on the 7 element page (before I even noticed the 8 element version), so there's no worries here. I've always wanted a fast 50, and this is my one!
The most disappointing part is that it's been rainy and dreary here in central Florida, so I haven't been able to take a walk with the lens yet!

I picked up a lot of old Pentax gear on craigslist the other day. Among the lot was this Takumar 50 1.4. Am I right in thinking this is the rarer version, with the protruding rear element and A and M setting?

When I got my used K1, I didn't think to check the settings, and noticed that I was shooting in DNG format. This is something new to me, as I've always shot RAW before. So is there any difference, or advantage shooting in DNG instead of RAW, aside from DNG being native to Lightroom/Photoshop? Are there any downsides?
