Went out to stretch my legs before meeting friends for drinks and ended up walking 20 miles or so. Took my camera to catch the last of autumn. Light was awful so I am sorry about that!

Thanks - there is so much detail in these Norman churches; bits within bits within bits like Russian dolls.

Thanks both - he was very chilled out all in all. He had a pal up in the rafters who was beating his chest and showing very little decorum...

I had been visiting my friend and had an hour or so before getting my train back north so I decided to visit the cathedral again (you get a year's worth of visits with a ticket) and take a few shots. I didn't want to get my tripod out as I thought I would be reprimanded by the sash wearing cathedral thought police so forgive the telltale iso dots!

Smoke Photography - not done any for ages so I need to hone my skills a bit - only can do it for so long before the incense gets to much!

As above in terms of it depends. I'd probably consider getting good home insurance which covers breakages of electronics even if it happens out of the home.

Hello,
I expect you will get more dramatic than this. However, it was my last night in Tokyo and I wanted to go out and shoot neon signs and was going around places like Akihabara taking pictures of the huge glowing billboards, but this at a small market stall caught my eye and seemed to sum up Tokyo at night and so I took a picture. The colours please me!

I think I understand the competition more now! You were after the extraordinary in the ordinary - it's probably worth setting that again at some point as it's a nice idea.

Black cats are good luck over here in the UK - he's my little familiar all the same called Cormac (after Cormac McCarthy).

Surprising just how poor the light is even in thinnish woods - I tried lower ISOs at times, but was getting unhelpful shutter speeds!

I've helped a few people through locks and been on a trip myself; it gets tiresome.
I'll let you address the people of Yorkshire and tell them they're southerners! :D:D

I was cycling round the temples at Ankor Wat, Cambodia and had got off my bike to photograph a stupa in the undergrowth. I turned back and found this fellow sat on my bike eating my fruit. I took the photo as quick as I could and then he scarpered.

Ah you went to York too - lovely. Did you go to Jorvik?
The canal is very familiar as it's a good route to walk to Hebden Bridge.

Thanks all - I'm going to sort through my lenses and things later so I'll update footers and things like that. Quote: Originally posted by Mark_Gelder Quote

I thought I would join the forum as I am returning to the fray after a few years away. I used to shoot with a K10, but the autofocus died on me and since it was old I decided to get a new camera. However, I elected to pick a Samsung Mirrorless camera which whilst fine has never quite given me the photos I desired.
The reason I went down that route was to save weight hiking, however I've switched to using my iPhone for that anyway. So I thought I would get a new Pentax body as I've got lenses (6 or so) which was a decision between the k70, k3 II and the kp. I went for the k70 - I would have picked the KP, but there were a few things that bothered me about it and it was pretty much twice the price.
I've ordered from a UK site who have bundled it with a 50mm DA prime and a spare battery for the same price as Amazon and other online retailers which I thought was quite good.
Anyway, off to see some Stone Circles in Derbyshire next weekend so hopefully have some shots.
Cheers,
Mark.
Welcome.... I'm sure you will like the K-70... I took mine to your part of the world this last summer.!
