Hi Everybody
unfortunately last week the shutter on my Pentax 645z died and needs a complete replacement.
Unfortunately again here in Italy where I live the only option is to send the my camera to Pentax/Ricoh in France and then hope for the best because they don't have any shutter in stock.
Estimated waiting time to receive the part and complete the replacement? 6 MONTHS!
Anybody out there knows a camera repair shop somewhere in the world able to carrie this job in less then 6 months?
Or maybe somebody that has a shutter in stock to ship to me?
Please help....

Sorry for the late reply...
My old MacBook was a 2019 the last generation before the M1 processor.
As far as software -if you refer to LR- I'm using the same LR CC but with the latest updates. Talking about the Tether Plug-in I'm using the same because it hasn't change for a while.
I think the problem is related to the OS system and the issue started with Catalina. Now with my new MacBook I'm running Monterey and simply does not "read" my Pentax 645Z.
Anybody knows a valid alternative or a solution top shoot tether with a Pentax 645Z, possibly using a software and not just a monitor through an HDMI?

I've been shooting tether using Lightroom with my Pentax 645Z for many years, but since I changed my old PC with a new MacBook Pro M1 Max I've not been able do so anymore.
Everything on the camera side works because I still have the old MacBook and if I connect to it everything works just fine.
Is anybody experiencing the same issue?
Of course I've asked Pentax and they told me to ask Adobe...but they told me to ask Apple which told me that I should ask to Pentax to ask my grandma to ask my dog..bla.. bla..:lol::lol:
Any help will help!

Hi,
as many others on this tread suddenly I cannot shoot tether using Lightroom Classic CC anymore.
The funny thing is that everything still works on my laptop were I didn't`t update LR....on my MacPro, same cable, won't work anymore, frustrating !
Updated camera firmware, download latest Plugin Update...nothing!
I understand there's an option to use LR via IT2 but, besides that I don't have IT2, what's the difference with the Simple Version, and would resolve my problem?
I really appreciate the help, I have a jewelry catalog coming up and I cannot imaging shooting untether and the Laptop is too old and too slow for the job.

Good call! In Image Capture I can see the 5D but it doesn't`t detect my Pentax 645Z.
Any of you works with the following combination: Mac OS Sierra 10.13.6 + Pentax 645z firmware 1.30 (latest) + Lightroom Plugin 1.3.0 (latest) + Lightroom Classic CC and is able to work tethered?
I'm suspecting a software/Plugin/Firmware conflict.....

I can't see anything in the Disk Utility App when I connect my Pentax or my Canon (both with card inside) but still I'm able to work tethered with Canon and not with the Pentax.........
I've attached a screen shot where I'm tethered with my 5d but there's no icon showing in the utility app.

Hi Steve,
I`m not sure if the camera is detected by the computer. I've never noticed a "camera icon" on my desktop even when everything was working fine.
When I connect my Canon to the computer I don` t see any icon or drive on my desktop either, but definitely works tethered with LR, so I know that the USB port on the PC s working.
How can I verify if my 645z is detecting the computer? Any advise?

Hi Everybody,
I've been shooting tethered for a couple of years now in my studio using the Lightroom Plug in and never had a problem.
In the past few days I can`t manage to make it work anymore and I keep getting the "camera not found message".
The plug in once downloaded it self install and I can see it in the LR plug in manager as "ACTIVE"
I`ve upgraded the 645z firmware to 1.30
I have a mac pro with High Sierra 10.13.6 installed.
The same camera with te same cable works on a friend of mine PC...so can't be a cable or USB port connection on the camera.
And finally - to make the issue even more complicated - Lightroom has no problem working with my Canon so can't be a USB port issue on the Mac either.
I suspect at this point to be a firmware/OS/plug in issue, anybody experienced the same issue or has a suggestion on how to fix this?
Needless to say that I've tried to uninstall and install the plug in several times.

It`s important to notice that is not just my personal opinion or personal taste. These images have so much red that the entire line of professionals I work with are asking me to correct the colors and as I sad before that`s definitely a red flag.
Having sad that I do not know yet what the cause of this problem is, might even be the photographer and not the camera!:) Overall I would say that the reason is a combination of many elements first of all applying a workflow that has been working for years with a different camera system to this new camera system. Canon raw files too require a fair amount of color adjustment but after 10 years of everyday shooting and post production it became second nature to fix them in few clicks.
Also important to notice is that I shoot a lot of jewelry and clients are super demanding about getting absolute correct colors (adding some yellow to a diamond makes a 100k stone look like a 1k one....but if you add a slightly different kind of yellow it suddenly becomes a "fancy diamond" worth 1Mil ! Needles to say that when I shoot food or landscape there is much more tolerance about colors.
Some of the Color Profiles suggested by other members are making the images look much better and it`s getting easier to find good natural colors.

I have uploaded the original DNG file.
Yes I agree these are still editable files it`s just annoying to get this overall warm/red tonality. If this was a personal project it could be OK but in commercial photography every image is viewed by a number of professional people everyone with is own specialty but all them very well "trained" at see something wrong. In other words apart from my personal taste, when the photo editor, the retoucher, the printer all complained about my photos because are too hot, then a red flag must go up.
While I was testing different solution yesterday I noticed the following: if I developed the same DNG with the same WB and the same custom profile in Camera Raw or LR I get 2 extremely different results. I always knew that LR and PS don`t render exactly the same colors but the difference here is impressive and the "very red" photos comes from LR while the Camera Raw image is much more neutral.
# POSTNOBILLS: Monitor is calibrated with X-rite Spyder and calibrated images looks fine. As mention above the good thing is that everybody see my images too red so at least I know that the monitor is OK.

First of all, thanks everybody for your help!
It seems obvious that I`m doing something wrong and hopefully this will help me to find a solution.
Below are 3 links to 3 PSD. files, that you can download, of the same shot exported directly from LR. The one marked with the #1 is exported "as shot" no correction (only a crop to make the file smaller). The one marked with #2 has the profile generated with the Color Checker Passport and no other corrections. The one with #3 is the retouched version which I think would give a visual reference of how much red/yellow/orange the other two files have.
#POSTNOBILLS: the eyedropper on the appropriate square of the Passport (bottom line of the grey, second from the left) gives me 213/213/213. As you can see from the sample it saturates the the reds and yellow a lot. Maybe I do something wrong??

I think I have a problem with the colors I get from my 645z.
I have noticed that no matter what I do my files have a ton of red in it.
My work flow consists in the following: I shoot in studio with Elichrome Lights and I always do a custom WB using a Passport ColorChecker and I even create a custom color profile with the same color checker. I import my raw file in LR and I retouch in PS cc. My monitor is profiled regularly calibrated NEC 24w. When I open the files in PS the skin tones of my models is aleays too red and I can't manage to fix this. Maybe the problem is LR?.... but yet I have the same issue if I skip LR and I open my raw files in camera raw.
Anybody else has problems obtaining natural skin tones with the 645z raw files?? I have read of somebody using CaptureOne with CaptureFix... anybody tried that?
I just would love to find a way to shoot and get neutral natural tones without going crazy!:)

Im very happy to be part of this forum. I've been shooting with Pentax mf for a long time, first with film using a couple of 645n and now finally in digital with my beatiful 645Z.
Looking forwards to share and learn every trick of this wonderful camera!!
