It is definitely an ist DS (as labeled on the bottom and on the front top right. Thanks for confirming anyway.

Thanks for this!!! I had no idea this menu existed.
I tried the directions exactly as instructed and the menu came up as you mentioned, but it still produces black images.
At this point I'm guessing the camera is a brick.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the shutter works at all speeds. When I put the shutter on 10 seconds I could see the sensor and it looks clean.

Thanks for replying.
Yes the back of the camera shows the Firmware was upgraded to "2.02"
I've tried a set of fully charged batteries, but that made no difference.

Thanks for the reply.

Before I "upgraded" the firmware, the camera was shooting without an SD Card and properly displayed images.

I have a Mac. I copied the "FWDC131B.BIN" file to SD Card in the SD card slot on the back my Mac. I didn't notice any extra files.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried both an older Pentax AF lens (from a Pentax SF) and a standard Pentax-K 50mm F/2 fully manual lens. there is no difference using either lens.

iST DS Firmware Update Issue

I have an iST DS Firmware Update problem.

I went to Ricoh website and downloaded the most recent firmware for the iST DS, put it on a 512mb SD card and pressed the "Menu" button as turned on the power. The screen came up asking me to upgrade, I chose Yes. It took a few minutes and then said it was "Complete". I turned off the power and took the card out and deleted the firmware file, put the empty card back in the camera and turned it on.

The camera powers on and shoots, but all the images are black. I tried both RAW format and JPG format but neither look any different.

Has anyone had this issue? Is the camera now bricked? Is there anyway to downgrade the firmware?

Pentax 645Z HSS with Flashpoint 600

Hi. Thanks for all of the comments.

I can confirm that the camera was set in Manual mode, HSS was enabled on both the trigger and the flash. I even tested the flash with my Sony to make sure the flash was working correctly, I had no issues using the flash with my Sony.

Originally I used a Hasselblad lens (no leaf shutter) on a Hasselblad to Pentax 645 adapter, so there was no electrical contact/signal to the camera. After reading the comments below I tried using the Pentax-D FA 645 55mm F2.8 and I was finally able to shoot up to 1/4000 of a second!!! I'm really happy that it finally works. I am a bit disappointed that I have to use Pentax lenses. Don't get me wrong I love the Pentax lenses, but I was hoping to use my Hasselblad 10mm F2 for super shallow depth of field.

Thanks to everybody for the comments and suggestions.

Pentax 645Z HSS with Flashpoint 600

I've updated my flash to latest firmware V1.9 from Godox's site, the LCD display on the flash shows V1.9 when powered on. I still can't control the aperture speed to go any higher than 1/125 on my camera. Also I still can't get the flash to fire at any speed. Is there a setting on my Pentax 645Z that will let me override the aperture speed?

Pentax 645Z HSS with Flashpoint 600

Hi maybe somebody can help? First off - I have a Pentax 645Z with firmware 1.3.0.

I recently bought a new Flashpoint XPLOR 600 and a new Godox XPro-P trigger for Pentax. I've previously used the Godox AD200 flash with my Sony A7RII and know how to set up the unit to be used in Manual mode. I setup both the trigger and flash on "A" and used channel 1, both are set to HSS. The trigger communicates with the flash and will control the flash when pushing the trigger buttons manually with your finger. On the trigger I can control the light settings, modeling lamp, and even trigger the flash.

Once I mount the trigger and turn on the camera and the trigger, the camera automatically adjusts to 1/125 shutter speed. I am not able to adjust the shutter speed. I went into the camera menu and the default flash sync speed is 1/125, I can't adjust it any faster. I can't get the flash to go off at any speed by using the camera. I've tried everything and I'm totally stuck. On my Sony it was a breeze and had no issues, but my Pentax isn't behaving. Can anyone help?

Thanks for all of the replies. I appreciate the various suggestions so far.

Correct = I do NOT have a FT16 trigger. I was trying to get this to work by using two Cactus V6II's. Both Cactus V6II's are updated to newest firmware (1.1.012). I tried to get my 645Z to HSS by doing was described in Post #30

---------- Post added 10-31-17 at 02:33 PM ----------

After re-reading the entire post from the beginning, I've finally got HSS to work on my 645Z with the AD200 and two Cactus V6IIs!!! I can shoot up to 1/4000 of a second without any black bars.

I'm not the most technical person when it comes to camera settings! Its taken me a bit to figure out what the heck is going on. I'm going to post all of my settings and equipment info to help everyone.

I will post my set up here in a little while....please be patient.

Anyone getting the Godox AD200?

Hi. I'm having some issues getting HSS to work on my 645Z.

Here is my equipment:

  • Pentax 645Z

  • Godox AD200

  • (2) Cactus V6II's (Firmware 1.1.012) One Cactus V6II is set to TX on the camera. The 2nd Cactus V6II is set to RX for the AD200.

  • 2.5 to 3.5mm cable to connect the V6II to 645Z (set to TX)

  • 3.5mm male-to-male cable to connect V6II to AD200 (set to RX)

Settings:
  • AD200 configured with no Wireless and with HSS On in Manual Mode.

  • Cactus V6II configured with "Manual" as Flash, "Pentax" as camera (set to Type 1 for 645Z) and "Power Sync" (for HSS).

  • Channel 1 set on both V6II units using the "A Button".

I can trigger the flash from the V6II TX to the V6II RX using the V6II TX trigger button and also trigger the flash with the camera. I do not get any syncing whatsoever (not even black bars). I've read through this post, but I've had no luck trying to get HSS to work. :-( Could somebody let me know if I'm overlooking any settings or is this a hardware issue?
