So, I did what Tram said, and cleaned up all the contacts. I twisted every wheel I could find: both in the film back and inside the expo chamber. And then…then I decided to press the auto wind button at the bottom of the camera. Although I didn't have the camera loaded, it did wind and then the "Err" disappeared.
Naturally, I'm very happy!
However, tomorrow or Wednesday, I will expose some 120 film and see how the results are. I will post here when I have an update, in case anyone else encounters "Err" too.
Thanks, Tram!

Hello everyone!
My first day on the forum, and this is already my 3rd thread!
Like most of you I shoot mostly film and do some digital as well. The best quality results I've had from scans are from Photo Scanning, Negative Scanning, Slide Scanning, Photo Restoration - ScanCafe. I met them at a tradeshow booth and sent them some 220 and 120 E6, about 100 images. They created 20 meg files for each negative and sent them back on a DVD. Clean scans, in fact: so clean, I can see chemical inconsistencies from my lab that are on the film itself: this happened in a couple of images.
ScanCafe is extremely reliable and cost-effective, but the downside is that one has to wait 1 month to 2 months for the scans. They are very upfront about this, and I haven't had anything missing, but the wait could be an issue for some. For me it's not a deal breaker, so I've been happy.
Thank you for the two folks who posted about Dwayne's and North American Photo. What I've been looking for is a good mail order film lab that does consistent E6. Unless you're a big name, Duggal in New York is the worst.

dantuyhoa: where are the contacts? Are there two types? Contacts for lens and for film loaders?
The Err remains on the display even without film loaded. I want to try your instructions, but please tell me where/what the contacts are.

Hello, hello,
I'm new to this site, and I wish I was driven for here for better reasons than mere panic. Yesterday I took a 3 hour drive upstate (Bear Mountain) to take photos, only to take a roll of 220 and see "Err" on the camera's LCD after winding the roll.
?
The error is not flashing, and according to the user manual, this means the camera is defective. Has anyone here gotten this error before and can possibly, elucidate on what kind of defects this may indicate? Camera has not been water damaged and has been babied for 6 years! I'm thinking of taking it to the 13th Street photo repair place, in NY, but I would appreciate any insight from you here.
Many thanks,
isa

Hi, I'm Isa and I'm in NYC. I"m here today to ask a a question about my 645N (that "Err" code on the camera's LCD is far from comforting!) but I hope to linger around here much more.
Peace!
