Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

I agree. The delay of top of the line APS-C body could be another way to push more people to go for a full-frame body. I believe it's a tough decision but Ricoh has already decided to go for this approach and it seems to work out somehow.

I don't own Silkypix, but I sometimes use DCU to extract raw files from an in-camera HDR shot. Is that count?

For bounce flash, I use stofen or simply go with bare flash depending on the bounce surface, subject, as well as time to setup between shots.

20-40 vs 16-85 what would you bring for travel?

For travelling, I will bring along only one or two lenses. My experience teaches me that changing a lens is not always an option, especially when our photography involves people or animals. I will bring with my 18-135mm. Anyway, I would rather use 16-85mm if I own one.

If you know beforehand what are you going to solely shoot in a location, however, you may change the lens before going there and stick with it for that particular location. In the past, I usually travel with other people and sometimes I only have 10-15 minutes for a location; those people couldn't wait for me to set up my gear. Anyway, YMMV.

PENTAX-DA 12-24mm is now discontinued

This reminds me of Tamron 10-24mm. It fits most of the description with the exception of WR. Too bad that Tamron also discontinues that one too.

To be honest, if it is all about licensing or relationship between Ricoh Pentax and Tokina, I am not expecting Pentax to come up with a replacement very soon. Still, there are possibilities that Pentax might accept a licensing deal with Tamron (10-24mm f/3.5-4.5) or even Tokina (a new lens design for a replacement if any).

Of course, having more lenses choices for the ecosystem is great, but this is nothing to be worried. Most of us shoot with what we could afford that is what we currently have anyway. :)

Of course, the Japanese Pentax guy was really polite to the customer. He said, "Pentax will continue to improve the capabilities of its full-frame camera lineup" or something along these lines. I couldn't remember the exact words though.

Nevertheless, the Pentax representative also gave a hint in a conversation with another guy that one should not expect to see a new Pentax full-frame camera in 2020. Such a piece of that information isn't new to many people here anyway.

I believe that Pentax will soon release a new version of 12-24mm with HD coating.
If it is the same optical formula, Ricoh Pentax should be able to manufacture the new batch without too much difficulty.

---------- Post added 12-11-19 at 06:38 AM ----------

Thinking the same thing. Although the Pentax 11-18mm f/2.8 should be optically superior to the 12-24mm in term of sharpness, I believe not everyone could justify its cost.
Further, some might find 24mm end of the Pentax 12-24mm useful when there is not enough time to change a lens.

For me, I will stick with my SMC 15mm limited for a while. :)

Too bad that some people believe this accusation about "Star Eater" without even looking at the images.

A few days ago, I attended the Pentax 100th Anniversary Celebration in Sydney, Australia. There was one guy who made a complaint to Japanese Pentax representative about the issue from the accelerator; he decided not to upgrade to K-1 II. He went further by complaining about how terrible of the autofocus on K-1 and even stated that the APS-C cameras are all craps. He told the Japanese Pentax representative that we will move to Sony if Pentax does not release a new full-frame camera with superior autofocus.

I have just noticed that the smc PENTAX-DA 12-24mm F4 ED AL[IF] is now discontinued on RICOH IMAGING website.

Discontinued Lens for Digital single-lens reflex camera / Lens lineup/ Lenses / Products | RICOH IMAGING

Since there is no plan for a new wide angle zoom lens for APS-C as of writing, will there be a new version with HD coating soon?
Or is it just a trick to push new purchaser to go for DA* 11-16mm?

Another rumour that does not convince me just yet. So I will just wait and see.

I believe the OM-D E-M5 III should be well-responded by the micro four-thirds userbase; this recent model could become a popular choice for travellers as well as vloggers, which are currently growing in number. While Panasonic focuses more on many features for video, Olympus offers all-rounder cameras in my opinion. I could not imagine that an old Japanese company will simply give up on this market segment easily. If it is all about budgeting problem, I think Olympus will manage and survive... I hope.

Canon says high DSLR demand may delay pro mirrorless body

Is this partly due to the fact that the Olympics 2020 is approaching? Professional sports photographers may be familiar with DSLR more than recent mirrorless models and their companies also have collections of lenses for Canon EF mount as well as Nikon FX mount.

In comparison to EVF, OVF introduces no lag in seeing through a viewfinder; this is very beneficial to sports photographers. In term of power consumption, OVF requires less power. Shooting with a mirrorless camera, one may need to prepare a lot of spare batteries to cover the whole game in sports.

Anyway, both DSLR and mirrorless cameras have their own pros and cons.

I would recommend the same thing. Keep shooting regularly and your camera will last longer. :-)
Although I now have the KP, I have to force myself to shoot with K-50 from time to time.

If you have to shoot in low light, I would suggest you go with f/2 version. Sometimes, changing the focal length is not an option.
Rather than using a film camera, I would rather use a digital camera in low light.
