Ok your trying to avoid the PTTL and make use of the ttl metering I have a istD which is TTL and any fast k-mount lens will fit it photos will be also sharper in low light as well. I can use 3.5f 28-200 sigma zoom with good results or 4.0F 28-300mm tamron. The more you opem your apperture the better the photo will be as the flash doesn't have to work so hard and leave you with those nasty black backgrounds.

Sharpness and contrast decreasing from f4 on all lenses

The k50 has 11 focus points the d750 has 51 the d750 has a much higher resolution and a higher mp image the d750 also has a much higher iso to work with. The k50 foual length multiplier is 1.5 and the d750 is 1. and the most important factor is the 35.9x24 sensor in the d750 compared with the 23.7x15.7 sensor in your k50 so the sensor in the k50 is only 2/3 the size of the d750 sensor. which would explain alot to me as mine has a similar sensor sizze as your k50. use the sharpness tool to correct the shsrpness but don't over iuse it or you will loose important detail.

In general a blury image is caused by too much light which could be a result of the PTTL meter system which I dislike.

On camera flash seems terribly lacking compared to my canon on camera flash

I have been shooting flash photos in front of the sunset for 25 years when I started it was with a minolta x700 and an achiever flash that I had to put my finger over the flash sensor so the flash wouldn't switch off the flash. This k5 simply doesn't do the job any where near as well as the canon. I wasn't using a seperate flash just the inbuilt flash which I would expect to light up my van 6 meters away.when there is already ample light. The sky was exposed properly but not my van. F8 av mode this should have given more flash lightening. The sky was exposed perfectly but the flash didn't light up my car anywhere near as good as my Canon 600D did. I have also noticed the canon flash is far better indoors than the K5ii I thought it was the cameras software or somthing but now I just think the flash is inadequate.

---------- Post added 09-21-22 at 11:24 PM ----------

I have overcome the problem by shooting in manual mode rather than relying on the cameras software 60S 4.5F and 800 Iso. Lit up my car and if I was infront of a sunset I would have a perfect exposure also +/- 1.3 to over expose in the low light one would think the av mode would work for this type of shot.

I am not financial so can't upload photos. it was about 5 minutes after sundown canon did it at 100iso and the pentax was unsucessful at 800iso but got a washed out image (sky, it was shot of red kombi with just after sunset) at 12800iso. Like I said canon produced the photo at 100iso with on camera flash and I was totally unaware the flash was so bad until I got a canon this is possibly why I have had so much trouble in low light in the past with the pentax's I have.. I have about 14 digital cameras canon and pentax.

I recently purchased a brand new k5ii old stock and today I took it out with a canon 600d and was taking sunset shots whe I decided a shot of my kombi infront of the sunset would be nice and I couldn't get a reasonable shot with my K5ii and had to resort to my 600D is this the way it is with pentax flash or could there be somthing wrong I have been through the menu settings and everything is set correctly. Is it that pentax are relying to heavily on the availability of the high iso's or is it just the way it is. I am a pentaxium I have been for years and only this year bought some cheap canon and I would not have questioned the flash ability if I had not purchased a canon and I just tried my k5 and its worse alumination than the k5ii. I would like to know if there is a fix for the poor quality on camera flash?

K3, K3ii, or K3iii for Second Body

K1 series have a much larger sensor I have k5'2 and canon and I wouldn't consider a k3 they have a tiny sensor whit high resolution so my K5 possibly has an as good inage as the k3 the k1 range has a massive high resolution sensor but then again it also depends on the comfort in her hands as well as you can see I haven't used a ki or k3 series just did a comparison of the camera spec online. Canon 600D vs Pentax K-3 Detailed Comparison you can change the camera's to compare spec. Remember a large sensor with low resolution may be the same as a small sensor with high resolution or possibly not as good.My go to camera now is a canon 450D and I use k5'2 as well when I have time for lense changing and as I love sunsets there really isn't time to change a lens as you may miss that special moment in time if you shoot sunsets you will understand what I mean. Encourage her to get the k3 then she will want the k1 series.

Black & white conversion, what is right?

If you want black and white you should know what filters you need to filter out the contrast in photo's wether your using film or digital other wise your just killing your eyes using a computer all the time. If you see alot of floaters in your vision cut down computer usage as your jel in your eyes attached to your retina may be planing a seperation then you will start experiencing flashes of light. Any way back to it if you want to reduce the folage use a green filter for a start or maybe a yellow one you will need to play around to get your technique worked out any one can take a photo in colour and convert it to black and white but it takes knoweledge to get it too look old school.

what are canon and Nikon thinking

If they discontinue the SLR what will they do for a camera, introduce a small lcd screen for a viewfinder as I love looking through the lens and a move like that could potentially corupt photography if we have to rely on software to creale / edit images as we shoot them, without the ability to check the image before clicking. Then there is the problem of eye sight for senior photographers you see I need reading glasses but I can still see perfectly through the camera lens via a mirror so looking at a lcd screen I would need specalised glasses to see the image if we have to rely on a lcd screen. The reason I can still see through a lense is I'm looking at a image at a distance but a LCD screen is close up I prefer not to use my glasses while taking photos.

I don't have a kp but the rocky boat you describe sounds like you trigger finger is pushing down on the canera body when you depress the button. This has pagues electronic shutter buttons since about 1999 was the first time I had issues with it and that would also explain the lense trying to refocus when the shutter button is depressed try a remote cable and see if you still have the problems.

Dream on, if you set your digital camera to manual you can have a digital k1000 except for the lightmetering and the aperture ring its a shame the aperature rings on lenses don't work with TTL metering.

Well mate the grass isn't always greener I have k-5ii ,K-5, canon 400,450,550.600,650, pentab isd and the isd is the worst but still good then the 400 but the rest are onpar I love using my 450 and the 600 I find no issue using the A-Dep in poor lighting conditions with iso on auto. I am using the tamron 18-400mm lens with this camera if you go pentax A-Dep setting isn't available so aperature poriety iso12800 and let the camera sort the shutter speed this iso is as high as I like to go. Try the A-Dep before you spend more as the canon is a much easier camera to set up and if you don't set them up right you will always have issues. Both my k5-ii and EOS 450D are NOS I was very lucky to pick these up and to get the 18-400 lens was a real eyeopener this lens won't fit on a pentax. The EOS450D at 12mp is still a good camera as it has a large sensor the new cameras have tiny sensors and need much higher megapixils to get a photo as good as the older models the KI mk whateverhowever has a large sensor and would be the pick of the bunch however with internet websites still only requiring lower sizes in photos the older cameras are still more compatable for online use as you don't have to reduce your image size every time you upload and image. EOS 600D is a cheap camera still after the 600D the A-Dep isn't available. the eos 450D has the better software supplied with the cameras for editing colours. cheers. Also with the pentax don't be afraid of shooting at 80-100iso as thats what we did with the old film cameras.

1 and 14 are ok for some reason I would like to see 14 in colour as the contrast between the rock and the water might be nicer. no.1 the stick could have shown more detail I've only seen one photographer use a wide angle lens the way it should be used and I am grateful to have picked up on his technique. Still have to find the right subject one day.

where photographers will excel with new cameras is with the setting up in the menu knowing what to activate or not activate also love my new k5ii that i got with an SC of 121. still with the 106v firmware. I'll have to read up again why people are using 107v firmware. It was rather seeing how this K5ii was set up when I got it there were a few errors in my opinion. Left most of the errors there to see why it was set up the way it was. I will be sticking with the large sensors with the low mp per inch as they are just as sharp as the new cameras with the tiny sensors.

New vs Old lenses resolution

Well if you listened to the pentax presentation you would know by now the old SMC coated lens are failing; In reguard to 1.4F to 2.8F would make no difference if your using 22F stop. Me I would take it outside on a cloudy day no sunlight and place your subject on the ground use a telephoto lens or even a mirror lens select the lens that suits the size image you want and try that. The reason it looks poor is too much light on one side then the same colour with the shadow on each grain creates an illusion of unsharpness hence getting rid of unnatural lightening then next possibly a f8 with a much faster shutter speed and and as low an iso that you can achieve k5 does 80 iso.with a zero to minus av setting. Also drop the light temperature so it's a brighter yellow (possibly and incandessant light) so the grain and shadows are more distinct you could even test a ringflash in flash mode there are alot of options to experiement with. Even placing it on a light box would create shadows from the grain if you didn't use a flash and all the shadows would be above the grain which would disguinguish each grain also. You can't just take a photo of that grain without being creative. Adjustable ND filters might also help.

They don't have to make them too backward compatable they are a very nice lens. I got this k5ii in the mail today very nice camera still looks brand new has the 106 firmware was hoping for the early firmware. menu is slightly different to the 107 version. It takes really nice photo's and set up so different to my other ones. None of the bells and whisteles are turned on.

I got myself a new s/h camera again k5-ii with a sc of 120. So when I fine tune it I may have one for sale I'll have to chew this over. I would love a tamron 18-400 shame they don't make them for pentax. I see no reason why tamron couldn't make these as they make the 28-300 for pentax I don't understand why pentax haven't sued Tamron into producing them.

The thing I learnt about batteries is to never let them go flat because if they go flat they loose their memory and never get a full charge again. I have been using that principle and I am still using some 20 year old batteries and they work excellant. Smart chargers also help a lot.

The SFXn would be the best way to go shutter button is clear of the housing has all the bells and whistles. Next would be the MZ5 or MZ5n. the Minolta srt 202 got me very intesterested in photography and I won awards with the x700 which would be a good choice but the SFXn is the one tat most missed the opportunity of using.

Thank you for the help understanding Raw files and how they work. I just pulled out an image from a back light photo whilst not as good as yours mine was a butcher bird on my flyscreen at the window. so raw is for bad photographers and jpeg for good photographers no wonder I have never needed raw skills before this.

Well its a waste of time buying anything not compatable with windows 11, I have 32gb ram and 6 harddrives ranging from 2gb to 4gb but have the option to go bigger as I have 2 mobile racks which can easily swap out for bigger drives without opening the case. I have 8 sata ports on my MB this is preferable to buying a card with multipul ports. These days graphic cards perform so well you can't go wrong unless yo buy one that won't fit your slot.Usb ports at the front are also necessary as well as 4 in one usb ports for chargers flash drives sd cards etc.Now if you have all that any software you want is available get the fastest cpu and MB you can I like Asrock myself and amd cpu. there are also large flash drives but I have little faith in them and for drives I like the old HDD's. Chow.

You definitely want a 64bit computer and keep your old computer to run your old softeare that is 32bit. I have a win xp still working as there was alot of free good softeware for xp machines and its ten times faster printing cd labels with win xp and a canon ip4200 than using win 10 and canon mx926 the old software whas so much less complicated so it ran better.
