I completely understand and agree. Thanks for the encouragement. Its happened more times than I'd care to count where I get to point where I just want to drop it all because my work is not up to par with mr. x or ms. y. I blame myself for getting sucked into instagram and drooling over other peoples work. Of course there's nothing wrong with admiring, but once it delves into the realm of comparisons and competition, its sucks the joy out of it. Not so oddly enough, once I stopped looking at instagram, 500px, flickr, etc., I felt so much better. Stopped blaming my camera and just started looking for more to shoot, or create things to shoot...cant deny that I enjoy the stealth of a mirrorless or rangefinder, and the feel of a full frame, but I'll manage for now ---------- Post added 12-20-19 at 04:05 PM ----------
Just might be; that snake was in an enclosure.

Thanks for your modesty. I think that's how I would have finally liked it. Thanks for posting!
I think I'm going to see if I can explore a bit more with the color wheel aspect of things.

Thanks everyone for your input and encouragement

Well phooey! just kidding; gotta find a nice middle ground I guess. I will re-edit tonight (hopefully) and get back with version 'charlie'. ---------- Post added 12-16-19 at 07:06 PM ----------
True true; if I can manage to blend in even 10 of those opinions, and its an improvement, ill take it!
So you mention alot of editing, but no post of a photo? do you have that somewhere?
Nice play on words with your handle by the way

Here is an edit per your suggestions. Its much appreciated and I can see much improvement with those changes! Thanks everyone! Anything else come to mind with this edit?
*edit* Added a beta version being the other was a tad dark and lost the purple haze as a result

Thanks! I'll post something with that edit in a sec. Good point. Thanks for the feedback ---------- Post added 12-15-19 at 08:51 PM ----------
Noted! I've made an edit and will post soon. I could see what you meant with the luminescence. The snake should be the focus of it ofcourse. Thanks for the feedback. ---------- Post added 12-15-19 at 08:52 PM ----------
Thanks. I've since cropped the shot and per another suggestion, have sharpened the head a little. Will post in a second. Thanks for the feedback

Purple being opposite on the color wheel from the color of the snake made an interesting contrast I thought. Outside of cropping it and coloring, any other changes in mind?

Finding that balance between being on the internet, work, and the whole reason for being into the forum which for the most part is being out there and shooting is quite the feat. In any case, I've resigned myself to seeing if I can just do enough side work and earn the gear fair and square.

Nice work! Any chance on getting some period merchandise to authenticate it that much more?

That sounds like an awesome idea! Ill try that out. It'l be a little bit as I'm in the process of moving though. Ill post it here when I do. ---------- Post added 08-26-18 at 12:37 PM ----------
Very good point. I don't remember to be honest. I think I was trying to get an idea out there, and couldn't get the focus right but still wanted the critiquing and would try to perfect it on the 2nd go. A bit rushed, but my time constraints are pretty heavy most of the time (i.e., I had 15 minutes to spend on that :/ )

It almost gets to the point where its like people who wear shoes that dont fit; its painful and destroying the bones in your foot, but theyve just gotta wear it because it "looks good". Whatever floats your boat i guess!

The friend of mine that I went with has that same model and year, but restored instead of a turned into a rat rod. I guess the idea sometimes is the more impractical, the better lol..thus the chop tops at times where you cant even sit in it without craning your neck!

Thanks! I'll give it another shot. Possibly even getting a almost rectangular shot if i can get the ring to fall fast enough to get some real depth.
Great idea! I may spring for a flash trigger so i can get a better angle at it. Once i have my focus set, ill just keep it there for consistency. As for the F8 do you mean less DOF?; to battle the possibilities of the ring not being in the same spot for every drop? (I dident have any kind of rig set up. My wife was just patient enough to do 15-20 drops for me :D )

I was able to get a decent shot from being at a higher vantage point. This was with a K-5 and a pentax-M 50mm (size was reduced)

So I was trying my hand at a shot that has been done too many times over but figured I could learn a bit from doing it myself. After many trials i still got some lens flare on the vase that I was using and it was slightly out of focus (one of the problems with my K-5 that is a little annoying to over-come by constantly manually focusing), but none the less I kind of like the overall effect; regardless of it not being razor sharp. Besides whats mentioned, any other points to share? Thanks in advance! :)
PS: the other thing that came to mind was getting my hands on a fish tank and having a flatter shot with a black or grey background to have a bit more contrast. Also that would allow me to focus on the breach, splash, air pocket, and object being dropped in. Yes?

I know what you mean..another good song is "fingerbib"...until you watch the mv, then it gets odd lol...always wondered if the folks in the vid knew what was going on, or if it was 100% scripted.
