I get the sense that Pentax USA has a stupid small marketing department which limits what they can do marketing wise. Speaking as someone who works for a stupid small marketing department, I think I know what they are going through. I also think that Pentax has burned a lot of bridges in the sales channel over the years. Their lenses were probably selling with a ridicules low margin in the first place and it seems they were trying to hold dealers to a MAP pricing but the internetz (looking at you Amazon and eBay) have a tendency to make MAP enforcement difficult when your sales and marketing department is already strapped for resources.
Long short, I feel bad for the Marketing department. However, sympathetic doesn't make up for reality and that is flagging sales. Someone there needs to grab marketing by the balls and make things happen. Then again they may be hamstrung by the top floor. Who knows?

Either way I'm hoping to pick up a Pentax body within the next year and I hope that k3 will have dropped in price by then.
Had to sell my k200 and 16-50 a while back so now I'm stuck shooting my wife's Oly e620. That being said the Zuiko 50mm f/2 is a darn fine lens.

Sounds good. I would however like to see real world low-light samples first.

I've been at various levels of activity here on PF for few years now. I always find it interesting how passionate people get about the FF debate/rumors/speculating etc. I think the only thing we can agree on when it comes to a Pentax FF DSLR is that it is currently a unicorn.
What I'm wondering is, what would people who get so passionate about it do, if we did, in fact, get a FF? I mean where would all their FF flame war energy go?
I'm kinda thinking the universe would explode and wombats would rise to rule the earth.

Welcome. Remember, everyone thinks Pentax went out of business years ago... :-)

I know some photographers that are tools too. :D
Most of those tools are brand snobs. As for me wanting FF, it is because I would like a new tool. I like the one that I have. It gets the job done. However, I would like to learn a new tool and learn its particulars. Pity the tool I am lusting for is out of my budget.

Looks good to me. If this is the Kr replacement I can't wait to see the k5 replacement!

This is an awesome bit of news. I am so glad that Ricoh hasn't screwed Pentax up so far. Also, since this camera is the K30, I think it's safe to say that the K-5 replacement will be called K3.

There is no incentive to sell Pentax if the margin isn't there. Also, no-one outside of the more hard-core photographers know that Pentax even exists. (There are entire threads dedicated to this) Pentax has compelling products that no one knows exists. The price is there to give incentive to the retailers. If they couple generous lens rebates, that lets the consumers get the added value.

Frankly, I think this is a great idea. The main problem with the Pentax brand is that nobody knows it exists. It's been a running joke that Pentax marketing is non-existent anywhere but in photography circles. Well, most of those people have already picked their brand. I am hoping that the retailer Pentax gets into is Target or that they start selling camera's in-store at Walmart. If the KR had been in-store at Walmart, sitting next to the entry-level Rebel and Nikon 3100/5100 I think that people would have really compared them instead of blindly going for the CaNikons.
If this is coupled with generous lens rebates, I think that Pentax has a bright future. Regardless of our whining, Pentax needs to make money to survive. Part of that strategy is getting the equipment in front of the lay people and that won't happen unless retailers feel that they can compete.

Touche. Sorry, this Nyquil (cough medicine) is got me all loopy. Also, if they do go FF they'll probably include a crop mode so that all the DA lenses work as well.

While FF is possible, I highly doubt that it will be anytime soon. In order to do FF they'd have to suddenly start producing all their old FA lenses concurrently with their Q lenses, DA lenses and their MF lenses. I don't know if Pentax can handle that logistically. Frankly, I think the K-01 in some aspects gives us a clue of what Pentax is going to do. They are going mirrorless but keeping the k-mount. Frankly, I don't care if my camera has a mirror or not, I just want to not have to worry about an adapter to use the lenses I paid good money for.

My k200d is still my trusty cohort. He jump out of my lap once when I was getting out of the car. I think he was just upset that I forgot that he was there. Thank goodness he's built like a tank.

I am waiting to see what the Sony a99 looks like. I really like Pentax but I would like to try FF. I know it's expensive but I like what they are doing with the SLTs.

You only need a model release form if you end up selling the photos or somehow making money off of the display of those photos. If they end up being for editorial work or if you sell them to a news organization you don't need a model release.
It comes down expectation of privacy. In public spaces, the courts have ruled that you don't have an expectation of privacy. So take all the photos you want.

Point well made. However, with the crowd of said sensitivity I don't know that there ever is a "right" time. At least this time, plenty of people see it. Looks like my count is 1 to 41 of people who don't like it.

I just realized this is probably in the wrong thread. Moderator please move.
So late last night I was bored and I decided to do a spoof review of the 5d Mark III. Some people liked it. One guy called me a Nikon fanboy and one guy called me a troll. Both don't realize the point of what I did. Either way, it is the most helpful critical review of it right now. Wondering what you all think of it? Feel free to give a thumbs up for helpfulness. Here's the link
Here's what I wrote:
I bought this camera because I need higher quality profile pictures for my Facebook. My 1.3 megapixel (I think that's what it is called) camera on my flip phone wasn't cutting it. I make a dang good sexy-duck-face and with 22 glorious megapixels, it really shines. I would have given it fives stars except it hurts my wrist to hold it one handed while taking said sexy-duck-face pictures.
Also, I want a camera that earned me some respect. Nothing says serious photographer like a camera that cost as much as my car. I will admit that I am new to photography but that's ok. This camera almost takes the pictures for me. I get respect from all of my Instagram friends with this camera. Only problem is...I can't seem to find the "grundge" filters on it. I docked a star for that. Now if only I could find a good set of railroad tracks...
Also another problem, the touch screen on this camera seems to be broken. I am thinking of taking it back but don't want to deal with the hassle.
I also had and issue when I first starting taking photos. Nothing ever turned out. Luckily I called a friend of mine who let me borrow a lens. What kind of a camera maker ships a camera without a lens?
I also don't think this camera needs all of those extra features. I mean seriously, who uses anything but "Auto"? Waste of space if you ask me. Plus the Tv function doesn't seem to work. Question for the masses... Anyone know of a good antenna for this? I'd love to watch my shows on this thing. I prefer if it was something discrete. I don't want to have to carry a set of rabbit ears around if you know what I'm saying.
So to sum it up.
Pros:
Takes good pictures
I feel pretty cool with this hanging around my neck
I get respect when people see this
Cons:
Hurts my wrist when taking self portraits
Doesn't come with a lens
Too many modes. I just want "Auto"
Can't find the "grundge" filters
Touch screen on back is broken.
Internal Antenna doesn't work. Looking for a good external one if anyone knows of a good brand.
Would I Recommend It?:
If it wasn't for all the respect I get when people see this hanging around my neck it would be a toss up.

Full-frame or not, I predict that Pentax will announce cameras this year. I am willing to bet my left kidney on that one. :)

Also, what is your metering set on? I tend to use center weight and that fixes a lot of it for me. Then again I'm using a k200d and that generation of DSLRs tended to underexpose by 2/3 a stop all the time.
