When I press the green button, the view I see becomes darker for a short time, then get back to normal bright again. I think the aperture becomes smaller at that moment, I guess this is the camera trying to find the appropriate shutter value in the press, then the aperture goes back to wide open after the metering is done. The difference between OVF shots and Live view shots is that the Live view takes a bit longer time for the metering. Is everything normal?

Hi koolimy, I just did a few tests, it seems the problem is still there.

Firstly, I have check the lens before I attach it on my camera, the aperture ring works well, it closes when I turn the ring to a smaller aperture.

Secondly, the problem is still there if I shoot camera in the daylight outside, the photos are almost total white. Whereas it is OK when I shoot indoor, I can see the bokeh difference between big and small aperture.

I have tried to follow your suggestion by adjusting the aperture after I press the green metering button, but the photo I took is wide open again. And I did another test, I have a FA 43mm lens, I turned the aperture ring off the A, and take photos as it is a manual lens, everything works perfect, both the aperture ring and the metering. Does it mean that there is something wrong with the lens I just bought (pentax m 28mm f2.8)?

I just did several tests in the night, as boriscleto suggested, I tried the Optical Preview, it seems that the aperture works well, although the photos are a bit overexposed. And it seems that it also works fine when I switch off the optical preview, I am happy about the results.
But in the day time, the results are a bit unacceptable, with a small aperture, if I use the shutter speed that the camera suggests, the photo is almost totally white (overexposed). I will do some other tests tomorrow morning, and then update my result here.

Your advices are really helping me, thanks a lot!

Dear bertwert, othar, aslyfox, and stevebrot, thank you very much for your reply! I have review the article, and what I did seems correct.

1. I have enabled the 'using aperture ring'.
2. use the M mode.
3. press the green button to do the meter.
4. take a shot.

The thing works good till the last step. Metering seems work very well, the camera adjusts the shutter speed according to the aperture I chose, but the photo I got is not good. When I use a small aperture, the photos are always overexposed. That's why I think it is always use the aperture wide open. Could you help me to fix the problem? btw, I have fixed the ISO to 100.

I bought a pentax m 28mm f2.8, it has just arrived yesterday, I did some test shoot, and I found that all the pictures I took with this lens were wide open. No matter what aperture value I use, the photo is with f2.8. Is there anything I did is not correct? or did I miss something?
