Just follow the manual to the letter and you'll be fine. Pro tip: as there are many types of screws keep the ones for each step in a seperate ZIP bag. You will have four bags until you finally get to the wretched battery.
Good luck!

Thanx! Funny thing, I just realized that I love both the design as well as the user interface of my K-rs and K-1s. Even with the dud backup battery. This is in stark contrast to the fruity toy I have (Iphone 5S) which I loathe.

My lovely, trusty K-r needed repair because it forgot the date/time after battery swap. Figured it out and now I'm a happy critter again! Will write a how-to on how I did it. I now have two K-r bodies and use two K-1 bodies as well. I like all of'em a lot. Had to work with a Nikon once and that ruined my day...

Already an old thread but I've solved the time/date problem with my two K-rs. There is a backup battery inside. First I got the manual for the camera and then, using it, opened it until I got to the main board. On it there's a small coin cell which is not listed as a replaceable part. I got a replacement from Farnell, popped it in and closed the camera again only to find it didn't work at all anymore. This turned out to be due to a flex print connector that had popped out during re-assembly. I intend to create a little write-up about the process on my website (Polonaise PIC projects).
