Revue 280T flash?

That flash is nothing like the Pentax 280T. Revue flashes can run 10 volts to over 230 volts. I would not use on a Pentax digital without an accurate voltage test.

You use a DVOM and place the probes on the center pin and the small metal tab tucked to one side of the flash foot. You then press the test button.

The info on the flash trigger voltage site quotes, " Michael Foos checked with Sunpak, who reported "usually 190V " for the 522. So it would be well to protect your cameras.

Watch for a complete Sunpak DX8R ring flash at a good price. It does auto and manual from 1/16 to full power. I have one on my Sigma 105.

I was just reading that Lightroom 6 will only be for 64 bit systems. Claiming they want to leverage it's full potential.

In a pinch.
You can use a Pringles can, a rubber band, and a white paper towel to make a macro flash extender for the onboard. :)

What do I need to repair this

Duh! I totally missed the mount was from the camera body. I never dreamed someone would ship it like that. I hate to think what happened to the poor camera! :)

Get the the thin dark piece out of the way first. Pair of pliers maybe. The the ring should come off easy while the lens is held with the mount facing down.

Lens identification help?

That is a M42 lens with a M42 to K mount adapter mounted. Thankfully with the spring already removed.
You would set the switch on the lens to M. Then shoot in manual mode.
The pin on the base was for use on such cameras as a Pentax Spotmatic. It serves no function on a digital camera.

Flash trigger voltage - PENTAX official answer

I have three 285's. One is 360 volts, second is 275 volts and the third is 5.5 volts.
My two 285HV's are both 12 volts. And all these are with fresh charged Eneloops.

A friend of mine has a 285 that spikes at 500 volts! He actually spot welded the contacts in a Zorki with it.

DIY Precision Focus Screen

I use frosted scotch tape on screen. I lightly put tape on both sides. I then measure with a dial caliper to get the split screen dead center. I draw very light pencil lines to define edges to be cut. When done, carefully peel away tape. All dust and crud will come away with it. I also wear latex, non powdered gloves while working.
Never tried using a split screen off center. Course I don't use spot metering either. :)

Some of the later 285's did have a low trigger voltage. But it is best to always test. There is no way to tell by just looking. Always error on the side of caution.

Excellent instructions. I've been using Pentax MX and ME Super screens for all my DSLRs.
They are the same thickness as current screens.
I've never had a problem with standard metering. Spot metering may or may not be bothered by the split screen.
Good to know there are still DIY folks around. :)

The 285HV has a max voltage of 12 volts. That is safe for Pentax digital cameras.

Astrophotography... Telescope vs telephoto

There is a rather large learning curve to using scopes for astro photos. The use of lenses is easier, but guiding is still an issue.
I use both lenses and scopes. They each have an area of best use.

The moon is fairly easy. It's the rest that challenges one's abilities.

Good point. I use aperture masks to increase f stops. My scopes start at F5/F6. I've made masks to be able to get up to F10. This enables me to focus wide open, and then shoot at tighter aperture.

Astrophotography... Telescope vs telephoto

There is a lot of difference. Camera lenses have multiple elements to correct for different aberrations, such as CA. Unless you buy a very top end refractor telescope, you will definitely have corrections to make in PP.
Reflecting telescopes generally don't suffer CA that much. But they tend to have problems with coma anywhere outside a central area of perfect focus. Not to mention being more difficult to mount a camera to.

I was going by what Vivitar themselves said, as was quoted on Photo trigger voltages.

"Alan Latafat Correa checked with Vivitar and they clarified:
The 285HV has a voltage of 12V. The 285 has a voltage of 350V."

LXNights:
The 622 is safe. The 285 is not.
The 285 is 350 volts and the 285HV is 12 volts.

The damage probably won't happen on the first use. It will likely happen from continued use and that is what destroys the electrical components.
Using old high voltage flashes is false economy. They were built and used when actual metal contacts handled the voltage in the camera. The components used in modern electronic cameras are not designed for those voltages. No manufacturer designs in a 10 to one safety factor.

Dirty AF module - can it be the reason?
Posted By wildlifephotog

I highly doubt it.
You only seem to have trouble with one lens. If it was the AF module, you'd have trouble with all lenses.
If the lens won't focus manually, it is not the camera.
The 35/f2.4 focuses down to 11.81". I would run a manual test at that distance and infinity. If you can't reach infinity manually, the lens is a boat anchor.

This is at KEH. It is a flash sold as is. I'd call them and check to see if the foot is intact.
Ricoh will not sell parts to the consumer anymore. It's either send it in for repair or find a dealer who will order it for you.
Now me, I'd probably check Keh and save myself the ordeal of trying to get someone to order the part.

When I had to do some repairs to my 190PROB legs, I called Manfrotto.

The site for checking on parts numbers is, www.manfrotto.us/service/spares+parts/
The number I called to order the parts was 201-818-9500.
Had the parts in a week.

They may have parts that cross over to your items.

Properly cleaning lens elements

Probably only in a sterile clean room.
A few small dust specks won't hurt the images.
