I'm trying to locate someone who would be capable of a total restoration of my Dad's Pentax SV that he acquired in while a serviceman overseas.
I thought this camera was LONG GONE. I had possession of it in the 90's and it was in a box in our garage in Iowa winter when the area I had it stored in flooded and then froze - yikes. It was totally ruined and it seemed to disappear over the years and I figured it was trashed. Lo and behold! I found it when I was helping my Mom downsize last week! It was in with a bunch of junk and I was shocked to see it again! Upon closer examination, I believe it might not be beyond help! But would like a professional opinion.
This is the camera that both my brother and I (professionals) learned on! I would love to have it restored, keeping as many of the original parts as possible. My dad passed away 7 years ago...and it is very sentimental to me. I actually have access to the lens I believe it came with, and another one that I'm not clear if it was bought at the time of the original purchase or not.
Any suggestions?

I think they are rare too LOL! I just happen to have a brown one too that's mentioned in that article. It's super nice as well! And yes...Wikipedia has it's issues, but sometimes they are right ha.

Nice! And the serial number is in that 779xxx range too. I do believe it’s original from the factory as well. It’s too perfectly and nicely don’t to be otherwise. Thank you so much for sharing! ---------- Post added 02-06-19 at 07:06 AM ---------- I just saw this! Nice find! Are you going to keep it?

yes, there certainly is a lot of information out there on this "mystery variant". it would help if everyone who had one would add to a list of serial #'s and then the picture might become clearer

what is the serial number of yours? those of us who have them should create a list then maybe the picture will become clearer?

I just picked one of these up randomly on an internet website selling vintage items. I love it! I removed the lame SE sticker. Maybe I should not have? I plan on actually using this camera and a sticker would never last with my abuse. LOL. it's a pretty little camera!

Hello from Arizona! I learned on my dad's Pentax back in the 70's. Played with film/darkroom for years. Been through the digital age from 2001 onward, owning a brick and mortar portrait studio. Tired of the digital humdrum and getting back to basics. I LOVE FILM!
So anyway...I picked up this unique K1000 supposedly "SE" online. Probably paid too much for it, (140) but it's unique and I like that. I've removed the lame SE Sticker that was on it when I bought it. It has a diamond pattern "leatherette" covering...very easy to hold. ISO range is 20-3200...going to shoot high speed in this one. It has the Split Image with Microprism Collar. SN is 7796802. I'm posting pictures from the listing online with the camera as I received it (minus the strap). And then after I cleaned and detailed it. It seems to be in good working order from what I can tell...I'm shooting my first roll through it now.
I know there's some old threads regarding the authenticity of the "specialness" of this camera. Has anything new come to light recently? just curious! I'm going to keep it and love it either way because it's not like most other K1000's out there. :)
