Thanks for the comment, I do like the camera a lot so if it doesn't sell it won't be a big deal as I have quite a bit of other non Pentax gear I will be selling off as well.

The shutter count is 25,400 at the moment.

---------- Post added 06-10-20 at 05:12 AM ----------

I would like to explain why I didn't respond to the PM from Fenwoodian if I may. First, I am subscribed to the medium format photos section so when I get a post notification I check it out when I can but don't bother looking at anything else on the site due to time constraints.

You see I am a production manager at one of the largest lens manufacturers in the country and am currently working a 14 hour day. That's a standard 12 hour production shift with 1 hour pre production meetings and another hour filling out post production reports. That leaves me with little time to sleep as well as take care of the normal household and yard chores. I almost forgot I had the 645D posted since I don't get a chance to get near any of my camera equipment since the covid-19 event. My work days went from 10 - 14 hours virtually overnight and the expectations of the company I work for as well as trying too meet customer demand is very exhausting. As I am typing this I have two managers texting me at home with questions regarding yesterday's post production reports.

Enough about that though, the 645D I have for sale is my favorite of my remaining 4 bodies I am putting up for sale. The reason for the sale is I am trying to get down to one body that I will use mostly for photographing my young grandchildren. If they would sit still, which they won't of course I would keep the 645D as it renders the best image quality of all my bodies which are the Nikon D800, Nikon D3, Sony a6000 and the Sony a7riii which I am keeping due to it being the better all around body.

I am only looking to sell, no trades as I've already mentioned that I am trying to get down to the one body. Unless of course someone has a Sony mount 135 1.8 or Sony GM 135 1.8 to offer in trade.

My apologies for not checking in on this post or replying back to the previous pm, I meant to then forgot until I was notified about a posting via email.

Reason for selling: I have several other bodies which I use more and hate to see this one sit and not get used.

I own the D800 and the 645D and definitely think the 645D and its CCD sensor has a much more vibrant, cleaner and sharper look to its photos.

Is a 645D still worth buying?

I own a 645D along with a Nikon D800 and Sony a7riii and have a few thoughts to share about the Pentax.

For portraits the colours produced by the ccd sensor are unsurpassed by any other system I've owned. The closest camera I've previously owned that produced the most natural and beautiful colours similar to the 645D is the first in the Canon 5D series.

Thought the 645D iso is limited to a min/max of 100-1600 it handles noise exceptionally well compared to other ccd sensors, particularly in decent light. I've been able to push underexposed images further than I thought I could and was pleasantly surprised as to how well the overall quality of the image held up.

As for the ergonomics the 645D with its deep grip is by far the most comfortable body I have held, even during long sessions it never lost the feeling of being comfortable to hold.

The bright viewfinder brought back memories of my Canon 1DSMIII days. Enough really can't be said about how you feel when looking through such a big and bright viewfinder.

The lenses, used ones anyway can be found at such cheap prices that a complete system can be put together for less than some single body/single lens combos. My a7riii/105 1.4 cost more than the 645D with the used FA versions of the 45-85, 75, 120, 150 and 200 I own. The optical quality of those lenses is excellent and couldn't be happier with the sharpness and rendering ability of these older lenses. My two favourite lenses to use and the ones I count on the most in my work are my Nikon 200 f2 and the Pentax FA 75 2.8.

What I think are weaknesses when comparing the 645D to the other systems that I currently own or have own is the 1.1fps and the slow review time after taking a photo. However since I know what I plan on shooting before grabbing it off the shelf I already am expecting to deal with both the pros and cons of using it.

Since I shoot anything from weddings to street photography if I were only going with one system it would likely be the most practical do everything Sony a7riii. If I were doing only portraits or slow moving photography along with landscapes it would be hands down the Pentax 645D or Z.

645D or Z Wireless Shutter Release with range longer than 15'?

Having grown use to my Nikon D800 and its wireless shutter release trigger range of 100' plus it's quite frustrating to use the ones I've found listed for the D or Z that stop working after about 15' at best. Does anybody know of a WSR for either of these cameras that has a longer transmitting distance or some type of work around?

Is The Worlds Greatest Camera the 645D and Its CCD Sensor?

To be fair about the 645D being old, which it is, it goes without saying that they are extremely well designed and rugged body that has a reputation of not needing servicing. I looked up every bit of information (reports) on the internet about 645Ds failing, needing servicing and found the camera is not one that sees the Pentax servicing centers often, if ever. Combined with the excellent image quality of the CCD sensor and low prices on 2nd hand glass don't expect the 645D prices to go much lower, if at all for the next few years.

I've shot with Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Sony before now also shooting with the Pentax 645D so I'll chime in with a few of my own thoughts.

Outside of the 1.1fps and iso 1600 limitation the 645D is my favorite body/sensor I have ever shot with. All of the 2nd hand glass I've acquired has been very affordable if not downright cheap and optically excellent. The 645D, 45-85 FA 4.5, 75 FA2.8, 120 FA 4 MACRO, 150 FA 2.8 & 200 FA 4 together cost less than $3300 and that's a great price when putting together a portrait/landscape shooting kit.

The colors coming out of the CCD sensor are so vibrant that it makes my post processing work flow much easier compared to the cmos sensors of the Canon 7d, 1DSMIII, Nikon D3 and D800 for example.

The grip, which is extremely comfortable, viewfinder, huge and bright and control layout were all well thought out when the engineers designed this body. Unlike any other body/lens combo I've held in the past it doesn't seem to matter which lens I put on the 645D they feel well balanced while being handheld. I was shooting this past Sunday with the 645D and 120 FA 4 Macro before switching off to the D800/200 F2 and it felt like I was handling an unbalanced brick when shooting with the latter.

If portraits/landscape shooting is your passion I believe you couldn't find a more capable camera than the 645D, fast action would require using another body.

Late to the Party - Pentax 645D for portraits ?

That is precisely what I am using it for, beats lugging a laptop with me when shooting on location. The larger screen lets me give the client immediate feedback on a somewhat larger screen.

You might be surprised how comfortable that big rig is while handholding, not that I use it all the time, just when I know I'm shooting clients and not for myself.

As far as the lenses and their performance, the Pentax 645 lenses "only" open up to 2.8 which at first doesn't seem especially fast but you will notice the narrow dof combined with the focus roll off when you start viewing your first shots when shooting wide open. I've shot with the same fast glass as yourself and still own a couple of Nikon 200 f2s to go along with my D800s. In the year that I've been shooting with the 645D and it's lenses they perform on par with anything I have shot with from any other system.

Good luck with your search and hope you can find a medium format system you really like, it's definitely something I enjoy.

Welcome, I shot with the Canon 1DS MIII before switching over to the Nikons D800 series and now with the Pentax 645D. The 645D is slow but oh so much more fun to shoot than those other bodies. While the viewfinder in the 1DS MIII is simply amazing the 645D's will make your jaw drop. The controls are well laid out and very intuitive by nature. The handgrip is the best of any camera I've shot with and extremely comfortable to people with either medium to large hands. 2nd hand lenses can be found extremely cheap compared to the top Canon/Nikon or Sony glass and the optics are excellent to boot. Image quality, especially for portraits and landscapes from that CCD sensor also can't be beat.

Note: The only limitation I found to shooting with the 645D was the 1/125 sync speed. Luckily there is online information to help an owner to circumvent that limitation and be able to go all the way to 1/4000 on the 645D. I have that setup pictured on top of mine in the photos below.

Here are just a couple of quick picks of my setup and accompanying pics.

Congrats on your getting a 645D. I started shooting with a Canon T2i which led to acquiring the 7D, 1D, 1DII, 5D, 1DSMIII, Nikon D800, Sony a6000 to finally ending up with the Pentax 645D. I've shot landscape, portrait, sports with those bodies and while the Pentax 645D may not be suited for sports, which I don't shoot much anymore it excels in my primary shooting style, portraits. I think you'll be very happy with your 645D, I couldn't be happier after almost 4 months of shooting with mine.

1. Mamiya Rotacam flash bracket for 645af. These are not sold any longer but can be found on ebay from time to time for between $100 - $150. They are very sturdy and lightweight and should last a lifetime of rugged use.

2. The Cactus V6 II sits directly on top of the camera, between the camera and the Neewer FT-16s Transmitter.

3. To fire the flash, in my case it's the Neewer 850tt with the Neewer FT-16s Receiver attached.

4. Only 1 Cactus V6 II Transceiver is required with the setup I used In the picture above.

I bought the Neewer FT-16s Transmitter/receiver combo from Amazon for about $17, the Godox version sells for over $30. I've used the Neewer brand of these for approximately 2 years on 4 of my Neewer 850TT flashes without ever encountering any firing issues so I thought I'd mention that in case you would like to try these and would want to save a few $$$. I love the lithium batteries in those flashes with their short recycle times, plus they seem to last forever before needing recharged.

The field monitor is a Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit I bought form online retailer Newegg. It is a 1280x800 ips monitor which is a higher resolution than the 645Ds lcd. It also supports manual focus assist so I can use it with my Sony a6000 and manual focus lens.

I am using the Neewer TT850 Speedlite/s combined with the Ft-16s trigger/receiver set. The trigger sets on top of the Cactus V6II while the receiver snaps into the side of the TT850 Speedlite which enables the 645D to exceed the 1/125ss and shoot instead at up to 1/4000.

The weather has finally begun to stabilize here in the Midwest so I will be able to get out to shoot subjects other than myself. I bought a Cactus V6II transceiver so my 645D could exceed its flash sync speed of 1/125th of a second. No I can use hss up to 1/4000th of a second. The 1st pic taken below is of myself at 1/2500 with the flash at 1/8th power in full sunlight. The next two are of the camera, triggering system and field monitor.
