Is Shop Pentax a legitimate Ricoh run website or is someone setting up a rather elaborate phishing site?

none of those suggestions worked; I also found when I plug or unplug my phone it almost always causes the issue. seems like DCU gets impacted every time Explorer updates something internally. definitely a bug within how the program interfaces a Windows call that needs to be fixed.

Anyone else have the problem where DCU will randomly lose the current folder you're in and all the pictures in the browser at the bottom disappears until you browse back to the folder? Happens every few minutes, which makes image browsing and editing impossible.

DA50 1.8 and FA50 1.4 will not work on my K-50; AF adjustment would need to be about -11 for it to focus correctly wide open. at -10 it is just ever so slightly off, and wide open the DoF is small enough at portrait distances to show it. Funny thing is I tried the FA on a K1 and it also required and adjustment... of -2, and I tried the DA on a K3-II and it required a -1. Neither of the other two cameras I tested need any other lens I have to be above +10, which means for whatever reason my K-50 hates 50mm at wide apertures. Anything at f/5.6 or narrower images are tack sharp.

I'd be interested to know what Canon models they were comparing it to. anything worse than upper midrange (70d,80d,90d, etc) models would have no sealing of any kind (including 77d) and are cheaper composite plastic. Basically if the models have different model names depending on the geography, you can be sure it has no protection from the elements. My guess is if they're comparing directly against the K30/50/70/s2 they are using the T6s/T7i/T8i/77D/M50/m62, all of which would fall into the toy camera category if out in adverse conditions (weather, dust, etc)

I've always felt Chris and Jordan give Pentax a fair shake, even during their TCSTV days.

I would say from wide open to about f/4 the DFA*85 holds a definitive edge. From f/5.6 onwards both lenses start to get closer in quality; the modern lens is always a head but the 77 has improved quite a bit.
However from a fatigue standpoint I get tired quicker with the massive DFA*85 than with the 77mm, having rented both. The K1 body is already decently heavy. If you're only in a field for a couple hours or will be using a tripod or monopod I guess it doesn't matter as much. On 3-4 hour days hand holding it can be a bit tiring.

I think muted is better for grading if you want to learn that, the other profiles have too much saturation. but without a log profile and only 8bit you obviously can't grade as wide as something like the Panny S1H.

that is awesome. DxO is one of my favorite raw converters; now if I can only find budget for a K3-III in the future...

you may be thinking of other brands. Olympus and Sony both upsample the pixel count which can still lead to demosaicing artifacts though at that high MP a downsize with a good resampling filter should fix it. Pentax upsamples the subpixel array which gives you the full RGGB array for each pixel, theoretically eliminating any demosaicing artifacts.

Anyone experience an issue where the shutter (or mirror, can't tell which, I just hear the slapping) continues to actuate for several shots even though it's in one shot mode? I noticed it the other day using a 50-135mm with a dying SDM drive. I took a shot then I hear a whole bunch more actuations like it's been possessed by the gremlins of the SDM.

I had 2 EOS 1vhs at one point. Did I like them so much I bought 2? No. I accidentally clicked the submit button twice back in the dark ages of the web that was 2006. And the business closed their doors shortly thereafter. so I got stuck with an overpriced film camera for a few months trying to pawn it off on ebay without losing too much money. thankfully I just about made even in the end.

not that I condone it, but if college is anything like it was years ago, college kids won't have any trouble finding it for free.

K-50 and 18-135mm, and my self white solenoid replacement. It's my default walk around in crappy weather camera. I just need an outfit that is also good to protect me in crappy weather.

I'm hopeful that the Nikon Z6/7 and EOS R5 can restore some level of respect to mirrorless toughness. Honestly I've used most of those cameras on the list; the only one I would trust to travel from Greenland to the Sahara to the Antarctic is the K1 and K1-II. It's hard to describe, the others feel rugged, but the K1-II feels like I can stick to mother nature and smash that shutter button like nothing is happening. Honestly wish there are more AW lenses though, only the 70-200 2.8, 50mm 1.4, and 85mm 1.4 are designated AW D FA lenses I think.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who experienced this. I bought 4 (!!) copies of this lens at one point; 3 were sharp from f4 and another one from f4.5, but that one could have been decentered. I gave up trying to find the mystical sharp copy at f2.8 that the reviews implied. It wasn't just soft; it had real problems wide open in high contrast indoor situations that I've never before seen in a lens before. If there was a "high-end" lens that I could hate more, I have yet to find one.

did anyone else notice it only has 1 UHS-2 slot? after using this setup on the A7iii and comparing it to the Canon R6, kind of feel skimping on having 1 UHS2 slot means it just has 2 UHS1 slots. That said as long as the slots can actually hit 90MB/s in UHS1 mode I that's a far better result than what Pentax cameras can do now (unless the KP is faster, which I've never tested)

well I just got screwed out of $200 by Adorama by trying to partake in this deal. I ordered the 85mm, got the $200 certificate, spent it, then Adorama cancelled my lens and claims now that I owe them 200. note, they refunded the lens because UPS "lost" it, and instead of sending me another one decided to refund me the lens. I tried to place an order for the lens (without the 200, it was over by then) after confirming with the CS supervisor to make everything whole and now my account is suspended until I pay them back the 200. DO NOT BUY FROM ADORAMA.
