His eye does not look at all lined up with that fake viewfinder attachment. Could have tried harder.

Glad to hear you can use your Q again. So it seems like a failure in the spring loaded battery ejection mechanism.

Sorry I did not post back! I could not figure out what to look for in order to take a picture of it.

Hi, can you share a pic of the state of your Q’s battery bay mechanism. Will compare with a good one for you.

Interested to know why you ask this. I do find the Q camera body adds some colour changes to the final image knowing it’s mounted with an 07, vs no lens at all. So the PCB does do something.

I’m not a proper YouTuber presenter but anyone interested in seeing me do a video of a 500mm full frame sigma zoom lens with 2x teleconverter adapted onto a Q shooting the moon, I could give it a go.

The hardware parts were taken from an old MFT macro extension set, but if I was to do it again, look out for the inner bayoneted tabs to be metal too! Mine, as you can see in the photo, turned out to be black plastic 😫 which I fear are less durable.
The other end of the sandwich uses an all metal bit from Q series macro rings that should still be available if you hunt for them. Q accessories are starting to become scarce so grab them while you can. The thickest Q macro ring is a good candidate to sacrifice from the set.
The middle 3D printed part was drawn up from scratch by me as a total novice using an old Microsoft program. I’m sure you can do better!

So brave and salute you for your time spent.
What was the ring piece that broke so we can be in the lookout for it!

The 02 is the cheapest and surely the most commonly available of the Q lenses, whilst the 06 seems the most failure prone.
Good luck with that 02 dismemberment and share you findings here!!!

True, after all this time I still haven’t gotten hold of a sacrificial Q lens to try this on.

Ouch Nikon! I also was thinking of making use of working electronic shutter module from a Q lens for a DIY Pentax 110 lens adaptor for Q. You are a bit far from me though. Will follow with interest.

Why not try out a QS-1 for size? Can’t hurt being a newer model after all.

Thanks @acoufap, except I can only find people who have had the AF201FG work on the more recent Q series family members: Q7 and Q-S1.
Anyone here manage to get P-TTL to work on the AF201FG with an original Q or the Q10 body?

Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help me “shed light” on this issue I’m having... I love this little flash and know it works quite fine with P-TTL on my Q-S1, but having a pig of a time to get it to work on an original Q (v1.4 firmware). Nothing triggers it other than if I set the Q body to “flash-off”, and resort to it acting only as a dumb flash. Such a waste. I want P-TTL. Similarly had no luck with a Q10 body.
Is the relatively young AF201FG not P-TTL compatible with the original Q and Q10? Both these bodies work fine with P-TTL paired with my elderly AF-360FTZ flash.

TBH this as awful… I’d much rather the internal pop-up Q flash triggered the external one optically. Will try my Yongniu that has an optical mode function that ignores pre-flash. Sorry Pentax.

Found an official Pentax off camera flash cable and pair of adaptors. The seller gave me a good deal together with an AF-360FGZ which was in much better condition than the one I already have at hand.
A 0.5m curly cable would have suited me better, but it is nice to have the optional length I have.
Now the hard part: to convince the old Missus to model for me. Have @LeRolls sample Flash pics taken with a Q as ref. |

Had been passively on the lookout for this for some time, and when it popped into my sights recently, had to pounce. The original magnesium Q with silver instead of the usual black or white finish editions. This compliments the silver lenses so well! I promise to myself this is the last Q I need to get. Anyone else here got the silver Q? |

Just in case anyone here thinking to try this.
Further research, seems a Pentax AF350 (which I just picked up a well used one last week) has too low a voltage for the SYK-5 and also needs some DIY additional resistor soldering to make it handle some cameras with a gap between pre-flash and main flash any smaller than 70ms. https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/seagull-syk-5-remote-control-cube-53184
Hmm…

I wasn’t aware of the more recent Theia lenses with 12MP resolution! Super fast, but at the asking price, I’d rather stick to the Pentax 08 with AF.
