I thought you might like to know that my camera works fine since I changed the solenoid for a white one from an old MZ. I have made 2528 more exposures since.

The MZ50 appears to have only one solenoid. The flash raising is a simple spring loaded affair. Having a solenoid seems to be like using a sledge-hammer to crack a walnut.

May I suggest plastic foam water-pipe lagging. For those not familiar with this stuff it's a foam cylinder one metre long split down its length; an instant pool noodle; easily cut to the length you require and dirt cheap

Hello all,

I've just finished installing a "white" solenoid taken from an MZ-50 in my K30. From the first shot it worked fine! I got the MZ-50 from ebay for £14. The most difficult part of the job was getting the new solenoid in place on the actuator lever and the plastic peg ,but it can be done with some finger gymnastics.
It would have been easier if I'd taken the top off the camera.

Thanks to all who have made videos and thanks to sys3175 who added some information relevant to the K30.

Hello,
I've been reading this thread from end to end (which has taken days) and although I can't add anything to the technical aspects of the discussion I can at least give you my camera data and history to add to that which other people have posted.

I have a K-30 which I purchased new in January 2015.
It was made in Aug 2013. (So it had sat on the shelf for 16 months)
It has 18,589 on the clock.
I used it sporadically on Auto until June 2016 then I took up macro-photography using manual lenses and exposure. I continued using manual lenses throughout 2017 which is when the bulk of the exposures were made and the camera worked faultlessly.
I last used Auto in January 2017 and it worked fine.
I attempted to use Auto 3 weeks ago and it failed. That's when I discovered this thread.

This does rather suggest that failure of the solenoid (if that's the culprit) is all a matter of time rather than number of exposures made.

I successfully tried the rapid shooting method which works temporarily but as soon as I've got a replacement I'll change the solenoid.
