Looks like you have the excellent AE Prism Finder which has a user adjustable viewfinder diopter with a range of -2.5 to +1.5 -- perhaps this might be not set up for your shooting/focusing eye? As others have mentioned that screen is excellent as is the (bright) pentaprism in the finder.

There is a Pentax 645 forum on Facebook that has some traffic. I have sold more 645 gear through there than through here or FredMiranda.com. Lots of wedding photographers on the Facebook forum, so if you have portraits or group photo images of humans, that might help sell. It seems most folks on there are interested in the FA 75mm lens as well as the 67 105mm f2.4, but with some good example images and good information provided to them some might venture further out in the 645 lens line up.

Yes, with the power on you depress the switch and it spools the remainder of the film onto the take up spool.

I have tried the mid-roll rewind to 'reset' a stuck 645N body and it worked for me. Same issue where it would run through the roll. I believe I put in a roll and hit the mid-roll rewind button and then removed the roll and inserted a new one and it worked normally from then on. |

"Nevertheless, the shutter won't fire and in the viewfinder i cannot see anything."
So the mirror has remained up against the base of the prism - the viewfinder is dark? When take the lens off you are not able to see the mirror? ---------- Post added 08-15-2023 at 03:22 PM ---------- just in case here are the two pages that deal with manual film winding on the 645 |

If I might chime in here... it could be that the mid-roll rewind button is stuck open. |

I did not realize that was an option on the 645N. Perhaps this was a custom setting that had to be done at the factory modification - you order it with this feature enabled? Just guessing.
They did some special things with the original 645 - where you could send it to the factory to have the film advance setting wheel be modified to an exposure adjustment wheel in half stop increments. Original 645 Rare Option? Half Stop Exposure Compensation - PentaxForums.com |

All of my 120 film holders have these and they do move around (and make a slight rattle noise when you shake the holder) when there is no film loaded. Once the film is loaded they gently press against the paper backing and there is no more sound/rattle.

I've had Jaron - TheNimsloGuy (on Instagram) repair three different 645N bodies for me. One of them was for the other dial (for which I had the replacement dial for). His tip for installing new dials (if you can find one) is to add dabs of superglue to the posts where the screws reside in as reinforcement before installing.
Here is his video on dial replacement - You Tube |

Thanks for posting this - I wrongly assumed they just offered screens for the original 645 body.
Out of curiosity, did you consider the AB-82 screen from Pentax? If so, why did you opt to go with the Oleson?

Given the relatively higher cost of the UC-21 screens lately - might I suggest you buy a 645 parts body to salvage the screen from? There are several on the big auction site now - and some come with a 120 film insert and other accessories that can be used on your current 645.
I've done just this in the past with 645N bodies only to learn that some of them were fully functional and it seems the seller just did not bother to clean things up and try the magic mid-roll rewind button on them.
As others have pointed out the original 645 screen has one tab while the 645N/645NII screens have two tabs. No idea if the thickness of the actual screen is the same. The split image 645N screen - AB-82 - is rare and for the money you pay for one of those, you can get a fully functioning original 645N body.

The AB-82 is the split image focusing screen for the 645N / 645NII cameras. I have an extra I can sell within the USA.

I think I tried to install it and felt something was wrong and pulled it out and never used film with it. I thought it was not as bright as the AB-82.

I would compare the focusing screens side by side. I bought two off brand split image screens and compared it to my Pentax AB-82 split image and the off brand is much thinner. ---------- Post added 03-03-2022 at 10:14 PM ---------- Also, having some variation from one adapter to another should not matter I would think. It would be like having different width/thickness extension tubes - it matters little if it is a 12mm or 20mm or whatever mm width - the focus confirmation and focusing should work.

How about a Bronica SQ (6x6) series body with the 135W back (24x54mm) and a Ken Lab (Kenyon Gyro) KS-4 gyro stabilizer? You have lenses from 35mm super wide to 500mm long all for a fraction of the cost of an XPan. Either way you would likely need the gyro, so you can save some significant money and have a much wider assortment of lenses with the Bronica. The Bronica ETR line (6x4.5) also has a 135W back, but I am unfamiliar with their lens line up, but suspect it is quite extensive.
