Saw this white throated sparrow while walking around Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania this past weekend. I only had the macro lens with me, but with a bit of cropping I think it turned out alright. Shot of a neat looking mushroom I came across, though I'm not sure what kind it is. Took 5 images and focus stacked them together.

For the reverse adaptor, you can screw to the front of the lens and leave it there, that way you can use the 50mm as you would normally, and then quickly pop it off and reverse if you need to. I've had bad luck with the 3rd party reverse adaptors not fitting in the camera body (KS-2) and ended up getting a Pentax one from the forum marketplace. You can also combine the reverse lens with some extension tubes to get even closer, but will loose quite a bit of light in doing so, so a good flash set up will be needed too. Check out some of Thomas Shahan's youtube videos to get an idea about using a reverse lens with extension tubes etc.

Love the light colors in this shot. Almost reminds me of a watercolor painting.

Saw this as part of Longwood Gardens fountain display and thought it could make a moody/creepy looking shot. I did a fair amount of PP (hopefully not too much :)). Its a bit of a departure from my usual macro insect shots, so let me know what you think! Thanks for the comments everyone! I really like the sigma 17-50 lens a lot. It isn't my first choice for insect closeups but its what I happened to have at the time. I was fortunate my subjects tolerated the giant lens getting close to them.

Noticed this little guy while walking the dog. Looks like some kind of Ambush bug species (Phymata sp). Shot with a reversed 50mm on a full set of 13, 21, 31mm tubes. F16 with my yn585ex flash (I really need to get around to making a diffuser for it). And for some perspective, that is the tip of my index finger. Ambush bug (Phymata spp) by Brian Whitaker, on Flickr" target="_blank">Ambush bug (Phymata spp) by Brian Whitaker, on Flickr |

This one kept flying between a few spots on the same bush, so I just parked myself where I thought it would come back to...and got very lucky with the timing.

Shot was taken with a A-50mm lens reverse mounted to a 31mm extension tube (both recently purchased through the marketplace...love this site!) with pop up flash. I was playing around with the new to me tubes this weekend and this was my best shot so far. Image is straight ooc jpeg.
