If I didn't already own this lens I would be all over this, especially for this price.

Indeed. I could care less about video performance. I want the best stills camera. For photography, not videography. And that's where Pentax can still compete and succeed. IMO.

For one, and for the first time in a while, I am optimistic about Pentax. Afaik, this is the first time that "K-1 MIII" has been uttered by anyone officially related to Pentax. And given the remarkable discipline with which they discuss such things, I believe this was a sanctioned, deliberate disclosure intended to herald the new model (which may not happen for a while, to be sure). There also was a reveal of sorts on the other forum site from Asahi Man that the next thing Pentax is working on is something to do with the AF system from the K3 MKIII, which also likely refers to a K1 refresh/update.
Indeed, Pentax has done well as of late--this comes amid reports of the continued, persistant profitability of Ricoh's camera segment, and on the heels of the great successs of the K3 Monochrome, which built on the moderate success of the K3 MIII.
So while it may take a while to get the new K1 MIII out, in typical Pentax fashion, I'm encouraged by these latest developments. Glad I held on to my Pentax gear, and time to start saving :-)

I think Pentax is going to have a booth at the Bild Photo conference in NYC next week. Hoping someone can stop by and see what the Pentax folks have to say.

A pessimistic interpretation: Pentax has ceased development of new lenses.

It's still on the roadmap, fwiw.
Overall the lack of new lenses to the roadmap, and to current production is frustrating to me. There are a slew of excellent SLR lens designs from Tamron, Sigma, and Tokina that Pentax could probably obtain or license very inexpensively (given the declining market overall in SLR lenses) to rapidly broaden the range.

Decent shots but he really beat the heck out of that K-3. Marks and dings all over the pentaprism. I guess that's what happens when you don't bother with a camera bag to protect your gear, change lenses on the hood of your car, etc.. Be on the lookout for a beater K-3 III Monochrome on the Japanese ebay sites...

So it looks like Pentax disabled PS on the Monochrome? That would make sense to me since the point of PS was to get full-color data for each pixel... which is not needed for a monochrome sensor.

An update on the lens roadmap would be welcome. They have had the 70-300 on there for a while, with no news at all on its development, prototypes, etc. Crickets.

Whether rumor, speculation, or forecast, I am getting frustrated that the anticipated Telephoto Zoom Lens has not been released, or there has been no additional information or leaks indicating progress. Unless someone else has heard/seen something? Asahiman on the other forum was a seemingly reliable source but he's been quiet for more than a year.

The 60-250, IMO, is an outstanding optic. I only hope this means that the 70-300 is close to introduction..

Thank you for doing this test! Pixel shift was one of the primary reasons I bought into the Pentax system. It seemed that Pentax paused in its development of this tech with the K3III. I really hope they bring forward some improvements in PS for the next K-1---improved motion correction (like Rawtherapee), faster image processing, etc.

I'm all-in on the 70-300mm and really hope it comes out soon! They did say 2022, but most of the year is gone already and no announcements, or even rumors! :-(

Wow. Amazing lens in outstanding condition. When I was shooting Olympus OM cameras (still do, before Pentax digital), I thought this was the only lens that could get anywhere near the legendary (and extremely rare) Olympus OM 180mm f2.0. Really a terrific lens. My copy, sold long ago, was not in nearly as good condition. Good luck on the sale and congrats in advance to the lucky buyer!

You can use 120 insert for 220 film. I used to own the 645 system and I am pretty certain there is a small switch on the inserts that can toggle it between 120 and 220 format. So if you have a 120 insert, or can buy a 120 insert more readily, just a quick switch can convert it to 220. I would suspect the details on how to do that are somewhere on this site.

Motion correction only compensates for motion within the frame, such moving water or leaves on trees. It is not meant to compensate for hand-held shake. PS on the KP is only intended for use on a tripod (if you want to achieve useable results). I have obtained some spectacular results from my KP in PS mode.

Hey Greg, I consistently notice the wonderful colors and tones in your images. To me, they are just very pleasing and natural looking--not oversaturated or too dramatic. One day would love any processing tips you could share. Thanks!

It is mainly the vignetting issue, which can be solved by either removing the baffle or replacing it with a 3D-printed version. There is an extensive test and comparison on this site, performed by B. Dery, of the 65-250 vs the FA 70-210 f4. Look for the lens test of the 70-210 f4 and you will see the comparison both FF and APC. HD Pentax-D FA 70-210mm F4 ED SDM WR Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews
The conclusion was that the 65-250 was comparable on FF to the 70-210, with minor differences--the FA had somewhat better center sharpness but the 65-250 had more even sharpness across the frame.

Thank you! I checked it out and that actually looks like the earlier, discontinued version, with a different optical formula. Good lens, but it doesn't look like it tests as well as the latest version.
