I would love someone to explain to me in simple terms what they cannot do with a K-1 II, that they need in a K-1 III, and that their photography is failing as a result

K-50 doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Super capable camera very overshadowed by the K-5 series.

Saw Tedeschi Trucks Band in Sydney last night. No support. Pure unadulterated TTB. And when Derek Trucks started the slide opening of Midnight in Harlem the audience of course went crazy.
Here's a version from 2012:

A few weeks ago saw Víkingur Ólafsson playing the Bach Goldberg Variations at the Sydney Opera house.

In the last four weeks I've seen two of the best two concerts I've ever seen in my life. It's like going from the sublime to the sublime.
If any of you out there get a chance to see either of them beg, steal or borrow.

Sir, I have been doing photography for over 40 years. I know a thing or two about lenses as I have an extensive collection dating back to the 1970's.

You are imagining issues/problems which do not exist. Just put the lens on the camera and press the shutter button.

When I took my first driving test in 1972 the written and driving tests were tough to pass. I failed the first attempt, both written and driving. I went back a week later and aced the written (100%) and only got a couple points off on the driving.

I took both driving tests in a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook. Four door, flathead six, three speed manual column shift.

Kinda like this:

I know a lot of people had trouble passing the tests back then, some forsaking driving altogether.

These days the driver's manual the state provides to those wishing to obtain a driver's license is printed in just about every commonly used language, and as you all have commented, it appears that the testing process isn't stringent enough to keep those who can't safely operate a motor vehicle out from behind the wheel.

They should also bring back the manual transmission, and only allow applicants to take the driving test in a car with a stick shift. Can't drive a stick? You don't get to drive.

Manual shifting forces a driver to stay focused on the task of driving, and (in my own humble opinion) makes a person a better driver.

I picked up the skills very quickly, and have become a very good driver. I have driven vehicles with 2, 4, 6, 10, 18 and 22 wheels, and transmissions with as many as 18 forward gears, as heavy as 120,000lbs, 120 feet long and 14 feet wide. I estimate I have driven over 2 million miles since failing that first driving test in 1972 (800,000 miles in the 5 years I drove heavy trucks). Most of my accidents and tickets were in the first 15 years, as I was developing as a driver.

Just replacing the valves after I failed to pay close attention to the service intervals on the timing belt. I didn't notice that the belt replacement schedule is either miles or time. The service intervals are 105,000 miles. I changed the first one at 100,000 miles and had everything ready for the 200,000 mile service.

So as I mentioned the service manual calls for the belt to be replaced every 105,000 miles. Or every 105 months.

I can't recall now exactly how far over I was on the time limit, about 2 and a half years I think.

So yeah, I was driving to work at The Big Shed early one morning about 3 years ago, had just transitioned from Interstae 5 to SR 526, accelerating up through the gears, shifted into 5th at about 75 or so, and suddenly . . . . . . . . . nothing. The car began slowing, the accelerator doing nothing. I had enough speed that I was able to coast about a half mile, and was able to get over ata wide section of the highway. It was dark and I didn't have a flashlight. I called a flat deck and had the car taken back to my place (27 miles), switched to one of my pickups, and headed back to the city and The Big Shed, just in time for work.

When I got home that afternoon I popped the hood, and stared at it for a moment, and then spotted the inspection plug on the timing cover. Pulling it off immediately told the story, as bits of belt fell out.

At first I tried finding a reman engine so I could just do a quick and dirty swap. The best any reman shop could do was 6 months.

So I ordered up valves, gaskets, etc and pulled it out and took the heads off. I had one head nearly done, using a Neway seat cutter to freshen up the seats and ensure they were round, concentric and not damaged.

Then my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the work was sidelined. I should be able to get back on it in a few months, after dealing with Mrs. Racer's estate.

Some snaps with the 18-55mm. Of course, I haven't got the sophisticated tastes and exacting demands of all the far more advanced photographers here who find the 18-55mm so hopelessly awful. But as an amateur snapper I find that it works fine when I ask it to.:)

Dear Board,

I hope that no one sees this post as trite or patronizing.

I love the Drive By Truckers with all of my heart. I always play this song, if only in my head, when I see or hear about people taken by tornadoes.

It's far too early in the year to be playing this.

To add some pictures to this thread: My latest addition. 1968 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe.
Had it for a couple of years now. Changed the 1.4 engine to a 2.0 with twin carbs and electronic ignition for an 45% increase in horsepower. But an even larger reduction in fuel economy

Pentax K-1 mII top control dial failure
Posted By Medex

As far as I have heard Official services replace whole top cover. This info comes from Mode dial failure (stuck in M mode) experience.
The dial you mentioned is quite complicated for reassembly and if someone would risk to disassemble this dial the better option is to work with free top cover, it means unsoldering of some wires is required. Job is not for nervous people :)
You said, that dial does not function anymore. I suspect that screw with flat head does not hold plastic and metal parts (see pictures) anymore therefore you don't feel clicks of dial and plastic part inside does not rotate because it is loose.
My advice - DO NOT turn your camera on because metal balls had chance to escape and can shorten circuitry.

Here is a picture with parts of the dial. Ignore small screws, they are for fixation of metal plate.

Here you can see 4 springs and one still holds the ball.

The metal part with grooves sits above springs with balls and plastic part sits above metal one. Plastic part is fixed by the screw with flat head.

Pentax K2000 power button not working

The K-m (2000) and the K-x and the K200D are very sensitive to batteries used as @crossed-up already stated.
For this best study THIS THREAD

But most likely it won't solve your problem!

In many cases it is the contacts of the battery chamber which just don't touch all 4 batteries at their contacts anymore.
For this first give them a good clean, particular if there are leftovers from leaked batteries which often is the case.
Then carefully bend the contacts so that they give better contact.

In case that the "empty-battery-symbol" shows up even with Eneloops (the K200D is particular sensitve to this, but others as well)
I have tried [https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/6-pentax-dslr-discussion/13335-ist-dl-batteries-6.html]THIS SOLUTION[/url] with an extra capacitor with success in my K200D which was super sensitve to batteries. I had purchased it about a year ago with a super low shuttercount but it would only accept Lithium batteries, Eneloops and others no chance.

Somehow all AA-driven Pentax DSLR's have a similar problem which I haven't been able to solve (I must admit, I didn't dig that much deeper into it because other projects were more important)

And yet sometimes even this didn't lead to success (same for the K100D (super), K110D, K200D and *istD/DS/DL models)

One can always check with standard alkaline AA batteries as well, usually one has easier access to those and they are cheap.
But in your case if you already have tried with new batteries and those solutions won't work it doesn't make sense to spend money for Eneloops (or the cheaper Ikea Ladda's which are relabeled but much less strict controlled Panasonic Eneloops)

Sadly the K-m and K-x don't allow a seperate Powersupply which works very well with *ist-D/DL and K100/110/200D's
So a solution would be as member @crossed-up suggested in his other link.

Landscape Smoke on the Water Sunrise

It has been getting up into the 50s the last few days, with clouds. The clouds moved out over night and the temps dropped to just below freezing. I had a feeling that this would bring on the sea smoke and/or fog over the warming lake. I was not disappointed. I went out to the local park on the waters of Fort Loudon Lake. This park has a good southeastern exposure for sunrise photography. It is also near the loval sailboat marina. So there is always a boat or two moored in a well placed spot. Which was the case this morning.

Shooting with the K1 and my cadre of primes - FA 77 Limited, F 135, D FA 50macro, and FA 31 Limited. I stuck around from just before sunrise to when the sea smoke and fog and nearly dissapated.

This was my most successful hour of shooting in a really long time.
