safely removing fungus from Takumar M42 lens elements

This is exactly the mixture I use to clean fungus. Yes heavy fungus can etch the glass but 98% of the time this is not the case. I buy cheap fungus laden lenses on Ebay and clean them and resell them. Easy to do and you won't believe how little they go for because someone doesn't want to learn how to clean them.

Some detergents have chemicals in them that are not good for coatings and can cause micro scratches worse than a cloth.

I use a rubber face cup remover and a lens wrench to remove the class I have never had an issue using the mixture you are using ... ever. As mentioned above alcohol can be detrimental to some finishes and while it evaporates completely if you get it on areas and it removes lubricant you then can e left with sticking apertures unless you plan to lube them.

One of my most memorable lenses was a Takumar 50mm 1.4 for $2. All because it had fungus and no one wanted it.

Works like brand new.

Keep on learning and experimenting.

I am really surprised no one has said anything about the Takumar 50mm and 100mm MACRO lenses. They do such a phenomenal job with Macro work. Even more so when you add them to a bellows or extension tubes.

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Mine doesn't heat up at all. It doesn't take much in the way of milliamps to push the signal to a monitor. As a matter of fact it is doing it all the time it is just there is no cord to transfer the signal until you plug it in. There is no switch on the plug that allows or impedes the signal output.

If you hold it above the monitor gravity does the rest ...:lol::lol:

I have mine hooked to a 50 inch television. I love it. So handy for indoor macro work. Any monitor or HDMI capable television will work in this situation.

I would like to thank everyone who commented about this. I appreciate the help and clarification on the cables and my error in thinking the USB was proprietary.

Having the HDMI hooked to my TV makes it much easier to see my focus when I experiment with Macro work than going off the back LCD.

I wanted to update this. I have been acquiring a few Takumar lenses. Their price fits my budget and I have fallen in love with what lovely photos they can create.

I found a lovely 55mm 1.8 ( 2$ ) to go with my 50mm 1.4 an acquaintance gave me. The 55 had some fungus but I got some tools, took it apart and cleaned the lenses and it take lovely photos.

I work for a huge corporation that made over 88 billion dollars last year. Unfortunately they only pay me 13 dollars an hour to take in a million dollars of inventory a week LOL Go figure. I'm an amateur at photography but at 56 years old I told myself I needed to learn something new so I bought a Pentax K-5 for me and a K-x for the wife About ten lenses ( and a friend gave me a super nice Spotomatic with a Soligor 35mm, Takumar 135mm and Takumar 50mm) and I love them.

Pentax K70 won't use ISO lower than 200

On my K-5 I hit the ISO button then I hit INFO. At the top there is the range for ISO and I push OK and use the front dial to turn it down to 100. The rear dial changes the highest range.
You can also change it by hitting MENU scroll right to page 3 ISO SENSITIVITY AUTO SETTING, with the four way buttons hit the right one then the right one again and use the up bottom and top to change the lowest ISO setting up or down- one push right allows you to change the highest ISO up or down. Again this is n the K-5 I honestly do not know if your menu is different.

OK Let me check an English Dictionary. Oxford: chiefly British : a person of grotesque appearance,
NOUN
A rope or line fixed to the ground to secure a tent or other structure.
NOUN informal, A man.
VERB
Make fun of; ridicule. ‘she never stopped guying him about his weight’

I'd say I am guying the op about their choice of words. I do however hope he isn't guy in his appearance and he has a good guy on a tripod should the wind pick up. Oxford is a wonderful dictionary.
