Thank you Chris for this challenge. It made me go back and look first to see my less impressive 'blaaah' images and then find the lens I used. As I thought, it was stuck at the back and forgotten.
So I decided to give it a second chance and have just returned from from a walk-around, testing it on my KP and I'm delighted with the results. The lens performed extremely well.

Lovely to hear from you again. Isn't that interesting that you too had doubts about the 50-200 and now wonder, as you said, and as I have done, dismissed it too easily.
So I have already fitted this lens to my KP and will take them out for a trial run walk around.
After that, let's see how it fares on my K1m2.
Thank you for your interesting comment

I think my least is the Pentax SMC - DA 1:4-5.6 50-200mm ED WR, which actually now that I am looking at it, shouldn't be. Maybe it's my photography that's blaaah.
It came with the Pentax K10D i bought 2nd hand and for some reason, the images I took with it were all blaaah so it sits at the back of the cupboard.

I would love to hear your views if you think I am mistaken and probably haven't used this lens properly.
What I will do now, though, it try it again through my KP.

Here are 4 images, 50mm, 105mm and 200mm x 2
No post-production except on the grass to bring down the exposure a tad.

Hi Mike,

My remark, as I hope you picked up, was meant only as a tongue-in-cheek bit of humour said because I too have a small collection of all-sorts old film cameras, Yashica D, Balda Super Baldex, Canon A1, Chignon CE Memotron, Fujuca ST-605N, Minolta SRT 101, Pentax Espio 160, Pentax Espio 928, Pentax K1000 (my absolute favourite), Pentax ME (my first ever SLR film camera) Pentax ME Super, Pentax Spotmatic, Pentax MX, Pentax SFX, Pentax Z20 and Yashica Electro 35GT.
Then not to mention all the Vintage lenses that came with them. And added to that 7 digital cameras

So when friends come to visit and come up to my office/studio and see them all, their eyes water or they stare agog at them and then at me and are either impressed with the collection or tell me in the kindest way,
"Gracious Dinah, you are such a hoarder."
To which I will always reply most defensively and with some indignation,
"No I'm NOT!! I am a COLLECTOR and love using all of them!"
(But sometimes I do question why I have them all. :hmm: )
I too have the correct stuff to repair and service them but haven't done that in a while. It's fun.

So there we are.
Dinah
PS, I would love to be the Mr B of the famous cookbook. LOL:lol:

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice to help me.

@syyrymb @kypfer @UncleVanya @ramseybuckeye @yucatanPentax

It still all remains puzzling so I will take the general advice - just get out there and learn as I go along.
So far I haven't done too badly - correction, the KP hasn't done too badly - my working with the basics plus that I do know of this lovely camera.

The camera does kind of sort itself out, doesn't it? LOL

Here are 3 images taken purely by the KP held by a somewhat befuzzled operator.

Thank you Mike, I love doing panoramas.

Here's mine.
We were up on Ditchling Beacon, South England, waiting for the Full Blue Moon to rise and I decided to try and capture our view from up there before the light dimned and the moon came up.
This image is of 4 images that I stitched together myself manually in Photoshop.

Hello helpers out there,

I hope I am posting this in the correct sector asking for KP help.

As this camera is new to me, I am going through the whole manual for the KP so I get to know and understand all the functions.
I am now on page 17 of the manual to get to know each item for Still Pictures from 1 to 40 shown on the manual's Detailed Information Display illustration.

But the info on my LCD screen when I switch on shows only the basic relevant info - ie in Manual I get M, Custom Image, Tv, Av, ISO, the 4 way controller, Focus method, and along the base File format and images taken.

I hope this isn't a dumb question :( but is there ever a way more information can be displayed on the screen? I've been through the full menue but cannot find it. So then do I always have to go back inside the menue to check on the various settings - 1 - 40?

Or am I just making this all too complicated by trying to learn it all?

Many thanks you if you can help me and I'll just push on in the meantime.

I always enjoy taking my older Pentax K10 out, this time to test it with a beautiful and one of my favourite vintage lenses attached. The S-M-C TAKUMAR 1:1.8/85mm.
Loved the sharpness on the red flower.
As for the yellow one, it was a loner surrounded by grass which made focusing in on it a challenge. However, I do like that the grass allowed me only a small area in near focus.
It is a beautiful lens, and despite having the KP and K1m2, I still enjoy the surprise the K10 gives me every time in colour and quality of images.

I have been doing a bit of a wander through my collection scanned film photos of which I have many. This is because I have a a varied collection of old film cameras and lenses.

All of them have had film run through them and I'm pleased to find that mostly they have produce pretty good images. (I have my film commercially developed and then scan them myself on an Epsom film scanner)

There is something very enjoyable, I think, walking the streets here in Brighton and London with an old film camera taking pictures hoping I have the right settings etc. And interestingly, when I ask people if I can take their picture, they are very happy about it, even obliging with some amusement too. Often it's followed with a conversation as they want to know more about the camera.

All images are K1000 except the first one which is Espio 928

Here's a collection I have had printed, mounted and framed for exhibitions in the past and happily sold a few too.

I hope you like them and I thank you for looking at them.

Through An Old lens

I picked up this old lens in a Charity shop here in Hassocks and paid £5.00 for it. It's heavy but fun to play with every now and then.

These three images were taken in May 2022 when I decided to see how this old lens would fare together with a slightly elderly Pentax K10. I have to admit that I was both surprised and delighted with the results.
(sorry, the f/stop does not show on the file information)

Going through my folders looking for Feb's challenge, I thought these three suited the brief well.

Thank you for looking and hope you enjoy them.

This has been such a heart-warming albeit most surprising response to my ""It's Okay! It's a Pentax." and I love that you've all pitched it with ideas to make it a Pentax slogan for a T-shirt.

The other new one being "Because it feels like a Pentax"- which is from another Pentaxian.
So honestly, why not open this up to anyone to come up with a design for a T-shirt.
@Adam suggested that.

Thank you all for your tryuly lovely warm responses. You've all made my day and all.

Hi Adam,

Again I say, I think you should given the response it's received. Open it up to everyone.:)

Yes, I did see that very video some time back but I have to admit it did make my eyes water - and yes, thank you, I agree with you on "It's OK, it's a Pentax" would be a perfect tagline to this video :)

---------- Post added 01-23-24 at 10:24 AM ----------

The ideas are pouring and which is lovely. I am working on a design at the moment anyway - in a most amateur though, I have to admit, but fun anyway.

Another great idea too - but please explain to me (at the risk of my being a bit slow) what your "IOKIAP" --eye-oh-ki-app-- acronym is in full or means.
Thank you

Hello again UncleVanya,

I am so enjoying your continued comments so thank you so much.

Like you, I too have been working on a design but also not sure how or what would be the best way.
How interesting that those few words I tossed out to a concerned passer-by has caused this wonderful reaction from so many. What a lovely thing to happen.

Let's see what comes out, if anything.

---------- Post added 01-17-24 at 10:45 AM ----------

That's a great idea, Adam.

Let's all get busy designing :) As I said to UncleVanya, I'm really taken aback at how these few words have taken off on here. I cannot help smiling.

I quite agree. :)

Yesterday, I drove to Shoreham Harbour - well I thought that's where I was headed to see the ships - and ended up at Shoreham Old Fort as I wanted to test out my other Pentax, the K-1m2 recently purchased with a Pentax 28-105 lens.
But I wasn't disappointed because I actually found some lovely structures to photograph.

Along the wall of an extending arm construction, were some fairly tame birds easy to capture and where I bumped into another camera-bearing hopeful after the same birds. So we got talking cameras, naturally, he discussing his Panasonic 4/thirds with a lens the length of a baseball bat, and I, proudly waxing lyrical over my K1. He replied that in his collection he has a couple of Pentaxes and enjoys them hugely.

"The K1 one is a heavy camera," said I, "but it doesn't bother me."
And he replied
"Because you can always feel a Pentax."

That made me smile and thought I had to share it.

That certainly is the way we are here in the UK, and the saying I assure my family in Africa with when they ask how we cope with such cold.

At last - a break in the ever continual blasting rain and wind from storms Gerrit then immediately followed by Henk.

Unlike many, I am so not that intrepid one happy to brave all weather conditions and get blasted off the face of the Earth to be last seen air-lifted off to Timbuktu.
I also don't do mud - keeping vertical is challenge enough for me, thank you very much.

But something happened to my resolves when it started to snow here in West Sussex - a snow that flittered between a light dusting and a full fall.

I grabbed my KP, fled down the stairs, quickly threw a jacket on, walked out into the snow and started snapping away like in a slightly demented happy loony, oblivious that I still had my slippers on, jacket unzipped and gloveless.

The camera and I became covered with snow when one very concerned passer by pointed out I'd ruin me camera getting it wet like this from the snow.
I smiled and reassured him with - "It's okay, it's a Pentax."

So here they are - snow spots and all. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy.
