Ha, I've been at it for ten years or so and I still feel like I'm just starting out most of the time. Just recently out trying to snap some birds I blundered in not checking my exposure compensation, which I suppose I cranked way up on accident, and similarly switched off the high speed sync on my external flash by mistake when I was lugging my setup trying to get closer to a woodpecker or whatever it was I was chasing at the time. Bunch of blurry and overexposed shots ensued. Guess there's a reason for those lock switches and indicators, maybe I should use 'em. So I'm just another blind squirrel in the woods, but if I do happen to stumble across any useful nuts I'll happily share.

Thank you!

No worries, I understood what was meant! For me it can be frustrating trying to learn about equipment or technique or even to simply appreciate the character/art of tools and the resulting photo when people sloppily (or worse, intentionally) misrepresent the equipment used or how a shot was taken. A few times while studying up on a lens or whatever I've run across people on flickr or such who were claiming to have taken photos with the thing I was researching, only to go look at the EXIF (or just recognizing an obvious characteristic in the photo itself) to see they were using something else--often something significantly more expensive, I suppose for the purpose of inflating the perception of their photographic skills, pretending to turn water to wine for undeserved adulation or something. But it's irksome! So having structured or thematic threads with meaningful enforcement and an honorable user base adds additional utility and interest to the forum as far as I'm concerned, and I'm more than happy to adhere to the guidelines where they present.

I imagine too it gives mods an extra procedural tool for isolating brand zealots and trolls to a corner of the board with their photos of poorly lit bookshelves and kitchen cabinets to aggressively prove how Brand X camera or lens is infinitely superior to that which the forum is mainly dedicated to, a phenomenon I'm familiar with from a couple of dedicated digital audio software forums I frequent (only there it's poorly-controlled A/B tests via compression-mangled youtube videos and whatnot). I'm not sure where they get the time or energy for their quixotic and obsessive endeavours, but so it goes. Anyway, I'll be certain to mind the signs should I get up to any photo sharing, and for now when I wander into the Pentax-Only zones it shall be only to admire and to tempt myself. ;)

Thank you kindly!

Thank you, I figured since the lens review database has been useful to me, and also a fun diversion, I should try to contribute back to it in whatever small way I can. I only had my eyes opened to the amazing possibilities of lens adaption a couple years ago--my first experiment was coming across a cheap Asahi SMC Pentax-A 50mm 1.7 which has bit of gunk around the rim of the rear element, that I partially dismantled and "converted" into a selective focus lens (the bicycle tube bendy cam), which has been fun and given me some neat shots, though I've been recently tempted to try to give it a proper cleaning and return it to its original form. But that was my gateway to mounting a Nikon 300mm 2.8 AI lens on my EOS, which has been a nice marriage, and of course lead to curiosity about what else I might be able to find to satiate the itch for a "new" piece of glass without spending too much, which eventually lead to the lens reviews, some satisfying purchases, and my desire to add whatever little insight I can, or at the very least a sample photo or two, that might similarly inspire or oppositely dissuade a prospective buyer. And the friendly welcome is a nice bonus.

Salutations and apologies to those whose time I waste.

A personal tidbit which I might rate as being somewhere on the continuum between tedious and interesting is that I've never actually used a Pentax camera, but three of the nine lenses in my meager collection are K mount. I did nearly go with Pentax for my first DSLR (but based on the amount of abuse my ol' Canon Powershot A80 endured for six years and the relative quality of the images I snagged with it, I ended up sticking with Canon). But I find a certain romance and allure to the Pentax brand--I hope one day I have the extra cash to add one to my arsenal. Until then, I enjoy imbuing my Canon body with a bit of the Pentax spirit through some K Mount glass, and similarly my photographic creativity via the enthusiasm of the contributors here.

A fine day to all, and happy shooting!
