some kind of SHOW or attractive EVENTS at this years RICOH booth at PHOTOKINA ?

Really? The "RICOH is nearly a salvation army"-card? Honestly i dont want to comment on it. - If you believe thats a good thing to do. Go on. I wont comment that any further...

So sorry i missed that.

Crooski - Thats what i meant. But today... only setting up those girls with the logo and let them stand there isnt enough any more... There has to be an idea or some kind of action. Something like a flashmob or so.

F.I.: Give a GR to every of those girls. Make them give away free hugs and let them afterwards tell the visitor they recently hugged to take a photo of them(her) with the GR.
Let them jot down the name of the visitor who took the shot, if they are willing to give it ... and put every photo(with the name of the photographer) in a gallery on a Website. = FUN.
IDEAS. (that are somehow flashmobesk...)
... They dont have to hire "Mr. Testino" to present the advantages of the fine tuned K-1 sensor or yoll like that... Just show some #PENTAXLOVE , Ricoh. Thank you.
But if they can effort Mario Testino, they defenitely should hire him. (Just jokin on the cost of the typical financier-angst. LOL)

And its also a pitty that the "walkaround-models" seem to decrease. But maybe thats only your impression. I dont know. Anyway I hope only the best for the next appearance of our system at all the upcoming photo-fairs...

BTW: Mike Muizebelt is also a good idea... but thing is.. I feel that the whole "only nature photographer gear"-reputation may totally limit our potential on the market. (Especially since that is not true 'cause the K-1 and the 645Z are very professional tools, that are a charm for cool product photography... Its amazing what you can do with steady-light setup and the K-1 in Pixelshift mode.)

IMHO there is no need to promote the "ideal-nature-photog-gear"-factor any further since its clear as day to me that taking a PENTAX KP or K-70 to a Holi-Festival or into a sandy desert is a much better idea than showing up with a Nikon 5100... or one of the Sony 6000(series) ;)

I hope so. Would love to see a bit more action at RICOHs booth...
Anyway... I vote for Kenspo to show up there. - I think he s not too fancy and kinda down to earth and straight ahead guy... They should at least show some of his pix in print at the show.
Switching through his online photos...

Alice Cooper shot from 2017 looks amazingly cool.
Also Alissa White-Gluz and Arch Enemy in BW...
Ivan and 5FDP
Dregen and Backyard Babies at Skogsröjet photo where some water sprinkles into the frame from the left side, also looks great and makes you adept the feeling that the gear the photographer used to take that shot,
is built to RESIST.

Pentax K-3 II with weather proof-sealed body

Whatever you say clackers,...

To me and my legal understanding WEATHER RESISTANT means weather resistant.(words layed open bind deeds... if they are written on the lens or in the warranty booklet doesnt matter IMHO)
Otherwise they should correctly start to sign their "not so tough" gear... with WS for "weather sealed" which in contrary to WR doesnt contain the liability of "RESISTANCE" in their wording.

If you for your person feel like PENTAX would normally drop you like a hot potatoe in such cases, that is OK and maybe I shouldnt answer you and let your statement stand for itself so people use there gear with more "personal responsibility".

But to hit the spot... my feeling on the other hand is, that RICOH is about 100% more reliable in this point than SONY....
And even with Nikons and Canons you only get treated with such "mercy"(how you "amiably" call it) if you drop them 5grand for it... and not even then you can be sure, despite you are in some Pro-Support-Program.(What to my experience with Sony doesnt even mean immediate replacement.)

Talking about responsibility... RICOH thought the same way about it as I did. - Because it happened just by exposing it to the WEATHER.
- If the camera freezes on water ingress whilst a non-WR lens is mounted... I guess you are pretty fu44ed.(same goes for dropping it into water)
and nothing else... (I didnt even mention my legal insurance...)
as I explained before... the situation will have some other outcome if you drop your gear into a river.

Anyway. I feel a lot safer receiving what you call "mercy" with
a) Owning WR and AW PENTAX gear
b) having legal and photographers insurance. *ROFL*
and i believe that SONY for instance would never have exchanged the unit(s), since they dont claim the "weather resistancy" by using explicit wordings(lens signations) like PENTAX does.

...I visited Photokina 2014... and inspected the RICOH booth and setup at Photokina 2016 thru videos and reports in div. forum threads and websites...
And somehow it comes to my mind, that whilst all other offer a real show to attract buyers and retailers to their brands.
RICOH plays serious grampa at every Photokina... whilst at least doing a little bit more for their coolness factor... at certain asian fairs...

I remember some events in Asia... Where girls that where clothed very lightly and bodypainted with the PENTAX-logo played billiards. - If that aint attractive... i dont know. :)
... then there was an event where they where mixing cocktails at the RICOH booth...("WHYSOEVER")

(I think that was in Japan)... I would love something more photo-centric... But I wouldnt say NO to the girls mixing cocktails at the RICOH booth. :)
Whatever they want to do... they should at least do something...
Note that other makers always hire artists for such events.

In Canons Redroom, you can watch On-Stage-Workshops, etc.
Sony had BMX-artists moving around on a spot in their area...
etc., etc.

So just asking... about the events i did not visit... Did RICOH-Imaging/PENTAX ever let a PENTAX/RICOH Ambassador show off, what is possible with our gear if you know how to handle it?
Did Kenspo ever do a show ?
Or Remo Neuhaus? or at least somebody not that popular?

I also brought that up under Suggestions&Feedback... but it seems also the Reps only move their hands in the "Pentax News and Rumours"-Section.

Only wanted to note that we maybe should vote for someone... who does some kind of On-Stage Workshop at PHOTOKINA...

original thread:

RICOHs - PHOTOKINA BOOTH (appearance) - ?night-sleeper-station? - PentaxForums.com

Maybe some of the of. RICOH rep. want to explain in here, why you make the visitors of the RICOH booth feel a bit "left".

At PHOTOKINA 2014 i found RICOHs booth - not quite disappointing but a little too... ahaaam .. i think clinical is the word i am searching for... or too SOBER if u like that better.
The busy people with RICOH shirts behind the counters actually were very laboured (or is willing more correct?); (despite 2 guys who were very competent to some point but ... ehmmm lets say, not sooo friendly.)
But that's not the point, point is: We are really missing something there.
If you wanna attract the public and gain customers you gotta offer them some sensations.

Nikon had a real arena, (directly behind there was the RICOH booth hiding out - AFAIR.) and you could go upstairs and test some (Super-)TELE-lenses from above...
Sony had a real nice show, where they adverted their AF-skills by letting people photograph BMX-artists that where (mostly on one point so it was kind of a con-attraction) moving real fast inside a small round area.
Canon had the "REDROOM"... Where there was some on-stage performance where a guy showed off how to exempt a subject(person) by using an aperture of F:22 or so in combination with a flash and one reflector.
Samsung had the "CandyShop", where girls where swingin on "swing sets".... between tables that where filled up with trendy pastel colored candy etc.

RICOH-PENTAX indeed had cameras with good IQ in their show-cabinets. And the usual water-fountain... surrounded with lots of differently colored K-30 bodies.
- Honestly... that is nice to look at, but feels like an aquarium compared to the "battle-arenas" of the other camera makers.

My suggestion:

Let people show off the equipment who know what they are doing. - Kenspo for instance. ? Did you ask him?
- I have the slight feeling you did not invite ANY ambassador to this years PHOTOKINA up until now.

He could show off how to CORRECTLY use Autofocus functions and how to prepare(set) your camera for shooting.
And how to handle it so you get to the results that you want and reduce random output.
I am pretty sure he could do that...

And if you know what you are doing you can even get better results with a K-1 than with equivalent Nikon(D810) gear.
Show them what the gear eqquiped with a decent tele lens mounted actually can do. - Maybe you can get Mike Muizebelt to stand a short show...

And put the big ones out on heavy and secured tripods.

One DFA 70-200... - attached to a K-1II
One DFA 150-450... - attached to a K-1II
One DA*560mm... - attached to a KP
And why not show some legacy glass(in mint condition) also?

A portrait-workshop with the K-1 and the new DFA 50mm 1.4 with a Cactus RQ250 or Priolite 500HS Flash-Setup? - ? --> REMO NEUHAUS?
A gallery with artprints from photographic work that has been shot with TAKUMAR - lenses for instance?

Product Photography with PENTAX 645Z(with Priolite Studio-Flashes)or PENTAX K-1 in Pixelshift mode with a set of GODOX SL-60W units... ..I am pretty sure there are some product photographers that could show off the potential of PiXelShifT.

If any RICOH rep gets to read this. PLZ search for people who are actually able to answer questions on PENTAX-cameras... and who can really make the most of the capabilities of PENTAX newest DSLRs.
Dont hide behind Nikon and let us down. One can get real "I am gettin"-messed feeling if you you have to go to the last corner of the room and stand in front of reps that are actually good at inventing alibis for their lack of knowledge but appearantly dont know how to set color profiles etc.

We dont need trained elephants(though tamed cheetahs on a race track sound tempting), but RICOH... call your ambassadors... Buy some influencers... do something. -thank you so much.

I personally would vote for Kenspo to do a short show... on one or at least 2 days of the event.
How is it with you fellow pentaxians? Any PENTAX RICOH-Ambassadors...you would want to vote for, so they will do a performance or some kind of public workshop at photokina?
Maybe a few of the "Soul of Street"-Photographers could start a hike through photokina-area and at a certain time show off what moments they did catch with the GR?

Note, that it is the last photokina following the 2 year cycle ... to some point you could say its the first of the 1 year cycle but that could be rendered a lie... Since the annually photokinas show off in Spring whilst it was autumn for the 2 year cycle fairs.
... that aint telling much.
But by doing so the people behind PHOTOKINA want to herald the start of a new era in photography...

And RICOH really should step up to get a ticket for a ride... IMHO with presenting new and competitive gear and a better appearance...
either at this years photokina in FALL or next years Photokina in spring.

Like I mentioned it before, maybe some of you also would like to vote for some ambassadors to show up there???

Assuming we are talking about damage only through "weather" then thats actually wrong.

I claimed warranty for a K-5II where that happened.
It seems it was a problem with the sealing of the mounted lens.
If you only use WeatherResistant gear, it "ipso facto" has to be weather sealed.
Especially if you have a "legal costs insurance" and your gear is still under warranty, you should insist.
At least that is what I did, when that first happened to me. Afterwards i took an insurance.. because you sometimes even when you know you'll get it, you can have a hard time claiming your guarantee.
(depends on whom youre talking to)

But i am pretty sure there is a way to check if you literally drowned your gear.. (such indicators where also built into some early PDAs)
That is something you can not claim warranty for - dumbness.

Cause there is a straight line between UNDERWATER |and| WEATHER RESISTANCY.

Nonetheless if you are really into professional photography and plan to use your gear under dangerous environmental conditions all (or most of) the time, you should get a "photographer insurance"...
BTW i always put an additional rubber gasket on my lenses when i go outside, because insurance or not i dont want to miss it for longer than one day.

(You put that on your lens first -its gotta be a flexible one- and after you mounted the lens, you roll it down till it slips in the "mount gap")

¿Where does my post say the K-1 would be cannibalized by the KP?

-And why anyway, why for Pete's sake, are people always... blabbering something about the K-1, when the actual proposition is about a worthy K-3II(¡so a CROP SENSOR FLAGSHIP) successor?

I know those usual tactics for argumenting...
And appearently it seems, that the trackage for those "trains of thought" reaches way too far if you ask me...
I don't want to play Freud and honestly " no offense here", but ahm... Somehow when I read arguing like that on Pentax forums, that always sounds like a full grown "Atlas-Syndrome" to me...

...I just can not reconstruct the way you want to argue here, sorry. That's too discombobulated for me.
And please don't bother to explain it.
Because like I mentioned it above, arguing around like that stretches the point IMHO and I won't get into a useless discussion.

I am pretty sure that Albert won't answer that anytime soon.

Since I know him from his video-review about the astonishing Pentax DA*560mm on youtube...
, because i was interested in his professionality too.
I can tell you a bit about him:

He is in the news business... has been or is currently working for McClutchy newspapers company.
A company that owns/runs about 30 newspapers...
(Miami Herald for instance, where he played a role in the team that won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for the coverage of Hurricane Andrew’s devastation in South Florida.)
...in the United States of America.

And he has his bonds to Ricoh-Imaging and is also resident in Japan... from time to time, he does Pentax-Gear reviews on Youtube.com

So if i have to put my 2 cents on the table, I would say, "Yes, his informations are very realiable."

actually, people were willing to give away about 1.199Euro for a non-flagship dslr(KP) that actually was a prosumer-body(K-70) beefed up with a magnesium alloy body and 5axis-stab.
..what upgraded (or successor-)products(which got introduced after their flagships) in m43 world offered to their buyers(-the 5a-stabil), without beefing up the price above their flagship products... ;) -

Anyway the brand has to get away from that "the camera for the poor guys"-image...

... in the end. When you look at lenses and other accessory - ...that point is pure imagination and just not true, because Pentaxians hand out about the same money as Nikonians and Canos for other 3rd party maker gear like studio flashes(until very recently we had to pay even more for competitive gear - see quite expensive Priolites ---) for instance...
Sometimes even more, since some lens options from 3rd party makers are rare to get on the used market or new. and so the prices are (a bit!) above normal for K-mount versions of the Sigmas for instance.

I did calculate it through... I would have to spend about the same to get about the same from another (DSLR/APS-C/FF)camera-maker...
IMHO there is no such thing as saving in photography. :*)

And since RICOH-Imaging publicly and officially stated:

I hardly doubt they will turn around and go back to deliver (dirt-cheap non-WR gear)to amateur-up_to-semi-pro... for their Super35 and 35 DSLRs...:asleep:

The PENTAX K-1 was a clear statement in that direction and so actually(despite all else) was the build quality of the PENTAX KP-body.
Alone that they set up this amazing new lens-line, which appearantly(looking at first results) plays !above the level of ZEISS lenses..., tells me, that:

RICOH "means business" when they say "Imagine... Change."

Next thing, that tells me there is no going back from "meaning it" and showing the same professionality in Crop and FF, which they already perform for mid-format...
is :

you can also read Albert Siegels post:
Is that a new tele lens? - Page 7 - PentaxForums.com
If you need reassurement, that RICOH really means it.

In the best of all likely outcomes... PENTAX could become the lone survivor in DSLR-land, while all other makers may slowly and one after the other, take the exit to MILC-Land in silence... since both, Canon and Nikon will soon step into the MILC game.

(speaking for myself, i can live without an EVF)

IF!, Ricoh-Imaging shows the will to invest in their products... and the courage to count on their strong fanbase and long-loyal users, when deciding what to offer and leave bells&whistles behind.
...like some other user on FB said before... there certainly is no more space for Ricoh to pussyfoot around with co-processors. (though appearantly there was one )

we would be better off without weird additional circuitry... but a better board or SoC as a whole.

So my hope for the K-3II successor is: no more cheap coprocessors but an overall better chipset, that can handle 75-100 autofocus points and 9-10fps bursts with AF hold. or 10-13 with single focus.
Believe it or not, that is NOT unlikely since the K-3 already offered 8.3fps that sometimes felt like 9fps.

actually having those features would not be a bad idea... saying "joke" tells me you have doubts about RICOHs ability to build excellent cameras... but actually its very likely if you take a look at the Specs of the K-3II - that they HAVE TO "up" the game a bit from K-3II... to where xmeda meant it should be...
10fps... bigger buffer, etc.

The K-3 and K-3II were excellent cameras of their time, and RICOH would do better to deliver even better, because other releases are close and even the new amateur cameras from Canon get the full monty --- see M50(which is a mirrorless)

The D7100 and D7200 where each direct competitors to the Pentax K-3 and K-3II...
and they had a hard time to "best" it.
- actually the K-3s where the way better Pro-APS-C DSLRs.... (and in no way only semi-pro... despite the lack of tethering support maybe)

The Autofocus of course...was not that good as on the Nikons, but it was PRETTY close, so actually wasnt that bad on both K-3s and according to my experience also performed quite good in dark environments.

both K-3 bodies offered:

better video functionality than its predecessors--- even a dedicated RECORD button- and nearly equally good video
---> Nikon D7200 had to crop the crop to give you 50/60p...

... both should have had log features and more possible options about format and bitrate but OK. both Nikon 7xxx and Pentax K-3* where actually still cameras - but is video seems to get an attractor more and more...
its very likely the K-3II successor will show improvements in that sector.

higher framerate and bigger buffer than its predecessors and competitors...
--> the Nikon 7xxx bodies both only gave you - 6fps bursts in normal and - 7fps in !!cropped-crop!

better writespeeds and connection

both K-3 bodies had USB3.0 - tethering was possible with 3rd party open-source tools.
PLUS Dual-Slots!

So actually the successor should not be that far away from the specs of an A7III... respectively an A6500...
if they really do a hybrid camera like sonys SLTs (like A77)
or
if they stay true to the DSLR and optical viewfinders... HONESTLY?. actually i dont care about that.
(still its possible since every - literally every camera producer seems to go mirrorless... thing is PENTAX could profile itself as the lone survivor in DSLR lens, if they play it right.

So I am pretty sure it will be a camera thats competitive to the likes of A6500/6300, D7500, D500, M50, XT-2, Leica CL, etc. (mirror or no mirror)

but IF it would be a relabeled sony product, it would be a relabeled A6500 ...since A7III is FF. ;)

as a last point, I wanted to note that:
The mood in pentaxland is just like before the presentation/revealing of the K-1!
- no one believed that there could ever be a Pentax FF and wanted to best the predictions of every other old bone...
But in the end... The K-1 became reality.

So will a competitive PROFESSIONAL-APS-C Flagship. PERiOD

there are a few 3rd party makers Teleconverters that offer SDM contacts. all of them are made for FF since they were designed and produced in the "film era"... just sayin.
if they are designated with PZ(that stood for powerzoom - a function that also drew current from the same contacts that the SDM nowadays sucks from) - they should actually also work for KAF4 lenses.
but i wont bet my last cents on that(because at the moment of writing this, i cant become aware of the other pins, and if some(which may be important) may miss on such converters...

how do the young folks say nowadays? google's'yofriend. ;)

anyway... i am already curious if we will see a prototype or even a release at photokina this or next year(somewhen in May)
so i am still considering to visit the RICOH corner there this or next year. - but its a few hundred kilometres from my hometown, so it should better pay off....

Despite that you may think, that I would criticize already existing products because you are actually unsatisfied...
You are also actually playing dumb here. (Sry but you are playing dumb because since you know the sensor part I have to assume you maybe also know that a sensor ain't everything)-->
The best sensor with the highest possible readout time and the possibility for global efc-shutter speed up to the billionth of a second..
...it will do zip-nada-null NOTHING!!...
without a capable Chipset.

You should also keep in mind, that a camera firmware also needs computing power for doing Autofocus-Calculations.

What you are stating is like saying:
My ride is the fastest because it has the most horsepower. That's as wrong as can get.
Your car won't even roll out the garage without wheels no matter what motor is built into it.

So I am talking about hope for a new pentax ride that has got a reasonably sized motor-(who needs a V8 or V12 when there is no road on which you can drive it) , because anyways people always complain about the data amount that comes from 36+mp cameras.)? (You would also know that if you would observe other forums or Facebook for instance)
A V6 that brings out higher rpm is completely sufficient with the right chassis, clutches, transmission, TIRES etc.

BTTP: some of those SoCs are more than capable to transmit the power of a 4k capable sensor.
Snapdragon 845 could already cope with 8K which we will see in MILCS in app. 3 years I guess.
(It's Samsung counterpart already was built into an 8K capable SAMSUNG NX1II DEMO-body that was especially built to showcase the capability of that very SoC Chip.

And JFYI: I was talking about my hope for an UPCOMING product/camera, so it really puzzles me, why you are comparing the K-1? with bodies from other makers? All FF-cameras...?

I am not interested in those.
Despite the fact that again 24mp on the K-3II successor would be more than enough for me.
As long as other areas improve, speaking for myself, I don't have any use for a body with more than 32MP.
Be it crop or FF.

I use my K-1 or hq-scans from EKTAR 100 out of my 645N or 67 if I want insane resolution for some project.
Maybe I'll buy the 645Z successor...

And even if Pentax would bring another FF (why?) before a K-3II successor...
Even if.. why for Pete's sake should it again have 36MP or more?(other: why should it have the same sensor?)
Where is the sense in that, if the K-1 (and K-1.5) already are the perfect 36MP cameras?

Anyway, I don't feel very welcome, since I bring in my hopes and wishes for upcoming products and you only bring in negativity. (That's very contrary to the Nick you chose..?.)

There would be no evolution in anything if status quo is what people want to have. So ask yourself why you always argue for status quo?(I watched discussions on Pentax forums from time to time, before I joined the forum today)

You may talk again past each my actual plead, if I go into your arguments for.. for whatsoever... But let me tell you again,
There are loads of M43(not so far from crop) cams and crop cameras that offer (despite the resolution) way more than a KP for instance... For a fraction of the KPs price.
I used a market search tool and filtered out units that offer at least 10fps, APS-C or FF, 4KVideo and got app. 50 results. Ok some products get offered as Kit so(a few times) so one could divide that by 3 maybe. But those cameras ARE THERE and it's not only 3 of them... and M43 is PRETTY close to crop if you ask me and Sony crops like a6500 or 6300 cost the same or way less then a KP already.

I have absolutely no interest in explicitly listing other makers products here but it's not that high frame rates plus 4K Video would not be on the market and not a sales argument that draw more and more people away from Pentax. Or is it?

Maybe there was a misunderstanding. Thing is, I am talking about upcoming crop here, because of the mysterious number in the threads title (sry if I got something wrong here) and upcoming FF in the very distant future.

Anyways, the answer to hope on improvements and better features on upcoming products sounds more bitter-cold-negative than "optimistic"....
If you personally want to stay without 4K Video, you can easily do that by keeping the K-1 and never upgrade again.
Regardless to your "talking-down", I am still convinced that we will see great improvements in the next-gens. You will see, there will come:
4K Video
Faster and longer stills bursts...
No one forces anyone to upgrade... But I bet something, that (nearly)all PENTAXIANS would be more than happy about PENTAX catching up or even overtake, so in 5-6 years we are really back in the game, have a wider userbase what would result in more lenses to choose from.

Let's win that game!

Hi there,

I am new to the forums and actually i am more interested in the innards of cameras than their look.

OK, i have to admit that I have a bit of sense for design...(I loved to shoot with that blue K-30 when I was younger)
So I think, they should use dark brown leathering on silver edition cameras and i have a crush on those gunmetal editions. Those look so darn hot, they should be standard.
.. ok, ok, i know this is only wishful thinking and that there are other things that need more improvemnt.
Like AF speed and burst rate f.i....

But I am pretty sure we will see those improvements, since RICOH already started to offer 4k on WG-M2 and Theta V...what means they buy into faster chips,
so finally there is hope, we get away from those lousy legacy Milbeaut-chipsets... since the Theta V seems to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625...

...I take a good guess and say, RICOH and PENTAX engineers used the RICOH THETA V to study modern smartphone SoC Circuitry...
and gosh some of SoC-chipsets are so darn powerful, that 4K vids at even 60fps or more and fast burst rates like 10fps or more should be no more problem...

The K-1 was great at the time that it arrived, but i hope they stop developing things like the K-1II(Mark II still got these annoying wheels on which most functionality is super-redundant, instead of a nice oled display so i can permanantly switch off main LCD...and go beyond 750shots with one battery.-FX-buttons would take away less space) and the KP with the same weird NR-math coprocessor also seems to be a real showstopper compared to a K-3II ???
So whatever, there is a great chance that this time, RICOH will "kick into high gear" with their successor cameras.

And they better should ... since i see so many long loyal Pentaxians jump ship to Sony... the A7III and A6500 are hard to beat beasts.
(or one-lensed photogs jump ship back to Nikon from where they actually came for the D850)

Only good handling and weather resistancy will not keep the community alive forever... especially since Pentax is a bit behind in terms of AF(they should really improve that above all else),
RICOH would do better to deliver with its next-gens, than pussyfoot around with adding weak'n'cheap coprocessors to their boards that help with superfluous NR-maths.
(what actually looks like a desperate move and means more than inconvenient engineering)

So ... to keep things clear and misunderstandings out. I shoot only PENTAX(besides a very nice RX100IV) but sometimes I rent other bodies, if i go shooting sports events, but actually i dont want to do that, since actually i would have a nice 50-500mm Sigma DG OS HSM(which itselves AF drive is quite fast from closest to infinity) but the next bodies AF should really be able to keep up with it. Since otherwise I dont see a sense anymore in keeping alive my lenspark and love for that brand.
