Godox 350TT on Pentax MZ-S or MZ-6?

Well I received the flash this morning and unfortunately it does not seem to work on my MZ-S or my K-5 II. It will do manual flash but nothing happens when I set the flash to TTL.

I have updated the firmware too but nothing changed - no flash icon in the viewfinder and seemingly no communication at all.

Fantastic thanks Glenn - that's really great to hear. I have it coming from Amazon on Tuesday along with a test roll of TMax so I can check the results quickly.

Have you found the results consistent? I had the Pentax AF 540FGZ (ist version) and found it was all over the place so I got rid of it and went back to standard Auto flash on my Metz 54 which works great but not as well as the Canon E-TTL flash I used to have, which was perfect almost 100% of the time.

Fantastic thanks Steve - yes agreed I can't see why it would't work either. The reviews at B&H and other places are very favourable and more importantly suggest the P-TTL works great so I think I will give it a go and put through a test roll and see how I go. I only shoot very simply with a bounced flash in P-TTL and don't need wireless etc so I won't be taxing it too much :)

Thanks for the tip on the Flashpoint, I had read about that flash but unfortunately Adorama's shipping to Australia is insanely high so it's a no-go.

Hi All,
I wanted a light-weight TTL flash for my late model film cameras both of which support P-TTL (MZ-S and MZ-6). Godox doesn't list either of them as being supported which of course is completely understandable as they are not going to bother to test old film cameras.

However, can anyone see a reason why it wouldn't be compatible? I know when I asked Metz about their new 400 flash they said it was definitely not compatible with a non-digital camera but I think companies just say that to cover themselves.

Thanks for your help.

Fantastic thanks Adam - much appreciated.

Agreed about the long list but I think a long table that can be sorted wouldn't be an issue and gets you the info nice and quickly but I think the lens finder page filter idea would work just as well and keep everything simple at your end too.

Love the new lens compatibility database - as a new user of Pentax it helps alot.

Just a few ideas below from using it a little today:

* I entered K5 as a camera and nothing came up so I re-entered it properly (K-5) and of course it worked but it may be worth doing some simple stripping of dashes or other non-essential characters when matching between database and user input to avoid this. Same as many online forms not accepting credit card numbers, phone numebrs with spaces etc - so easy to fix.
* I think it would be useful when you enter your camera and lens and get back a result to have a link below that that says "Show All Compatible Lenses" for this camera. As a new user you have no idea what lens name to enter so to flip the idea on the head to show me everything I can use on a K-5 for example with sortable columns including the review ratings, weight, M or AF, APS/FF and any warnings for use on that camera etc. The info is all here on the site but it is sort of spread across a few different sections. Really I just want to see everything I can use so I can find a 28mm lens that is below 300g that will work on a K-3 as an example
* As mentioned above by others film cameras would be a fantastic addition at some point.

Metz M400 flash with MZ-S?

Sorry I should have pointed out in the original post that I already have a Metz 54 MZ-4i with various hotshoes and I can of course get the Pentax SCA Adaptor for it the Metz 54 but was hoping for something smaller and in particular much lighter that could do everything I need (360g vs 220g). I can then use just the one flash across various bodies - everything Auto on camera and flash with the MZ-S when I need it for family gatherings or parties but then I can still go all manual with an LX and the manual flash settings on the M400 when I want to go out shooting for myself.

I can easily choose from a large variety of various bigger flashes from Pentax or 3rd parties but the M400 struck me as a great middle-ground for me.

Metz M400 flash with MZ-S?

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have the MZ-S manual and read it extensively before buying the camera so that was my reasoning behind thinking the Metz M400 would work well with the two latest cameras of the film period as they both support seemingly the same protocols as the Pentax digital camera barring the most recent digital specific changes.

My only thought was the one you bought up being that the flash contact points may be the issue as I have tried a few flashes I have at home that have worked on almost every camera I throw them on but the MZ-S won't fire any of them except a small Nikon SB-30.

BTW I just got a reply back from Metz on email and they said it would only work on digital cameras but I'm not convinced that is anything but covering their behind as it has not been tested on them which is perfectly understandable for them to do at this point.

It just makes no sense to me that a flash that supports from manual through to P-TTL wouldn't work.

Perhaps the only way to find out is to get one and give it a go and return it if it doesn't work.

Tanks again for your time.

Metz M400 flash with MZ-S?

Hi,
I am new to the Pentax world coming over from Leica rangefinders. I have purchased the MZ-S which I am enjoying and will be getting the LX soon too and I am looking for a lightweight flash that will work across the board on all cameras and take advantage of HSS and P-TTL when I need them plus still do manual flash etc. The Metz looks perfect but of course there is no mention on their website anymore about its compatibility with film cameras.

From what I can see it should work perfectly with the MZ-S and taking advantage of the more niche modes but still working perfectly on the older cameras like the LX with standard TTL or just straight Auto and manual settings.

Just checking in case there is some weird digital only flash hotshoe that I wasn't aware of.

Thanks for your help.
