Chois entre ces 2 objectifs: PENTAX DA 50MM or M42 Mir-24H 35 mm

These two lenses have a different focal length (one is 35mm and the ther 50mm), so they will give you a different field of view (or perspective). On your K70, MIR will behave like a "standard" lens, and the DA 50mm 1.8 like a short telephoto lens.
If you are saying that you want to use it as 50mm - do you mean you want to have the same visual effect as by using a 50mm lens on a film or full-frame camera? In that case you should go for a whatever 35mm lens. I would suggest the Pentax DA 35mm 2.4 or Pentax FA 35mm 2.0 (either you can buy brand new), or any other manual pentax 35mm lens from the M or K family (you will have a choice between f2, f2.8 and f3.5, but it will be used so again you end up with the same problem as with MIR).
If you want to have the same field of view as on the kit lens set to 50mm then go for the DA 50mm 1.8 (or any other 50mm lens).

Wojciech

Whis is the same as Vivitar 19mm F3.8 (also MC)

Perhaps Cosina made a small run of those under the Kiron brand as well?

Apeture closes and opens when lens is off the camera, but not when it is on

The needle should move if you point the camera towards a source of light and play around with the aperture (and time) settings. If it doesn't, then it means that either the battery is flat, or there is something wrong with the light meter.

Pentax K1000 Light meter behaviour

Hi,

It seems like a normal behavior. I have the same observations with my camera. The meter of K1000 is not particularly sensitive and when you try to meter in dim places (for instance indoors during cloudy weather or at night when the only source of light are weak light bulbs) the meter will not react (stay in the middle) until you point the camera to a source of light (window, light bulb). Once it starts metering it will do so for a while and show the correct exposure for the poorly lit areas. After some time it will go back to the middle position.

Wojciech

How does the sensor affect stuff like purple fringing and other abberations?

^^^ This

To add more, there was recently an article published in which Haruo Sato, a Nikon optical engineer, touched upon this topic:
Nikon | Imaging Products | NIKKOR - The Thousand and One Nights No.77
In section "VI. Low-pass filters and optical performance" he writes that with certain lenses designed in the film era "[...] a high degree of negative distortion occurs. Color fringing at the edges of the frame is also extreme. The degree to which these issues present increases as the thickness of the low-pass filter increases. In addition, the degree of aberration fluctuation varies depending upon the position of the pupil in relation to the image sensor.
Curvature of field also switches to a positive curvature. The larger the angle of view, the more attention to these characteristics must be paid. Fast (bright) lenses can also be problematic as spherical aberration switches to the positive direction as well.
"
In other words, the thicker the glass covering the sensor the larger the increase of various aberrations for lenses which are not telecentric.

Following this reasoning, I am actually curious whether the lenses specifically designed for digital sensors might actually perform worse on film.

Dodgy film rewind button on a Pentax KM (film)

Hi,
I am not sure if that will be of any help but on my K1000 the film rewind button goes back to its default position once you actuate the film rewind lever. Perhaps in your case there is a problem with the connection between the button and the lever.
Best,
Wojciech

Guys, What K mount does this lens have? Please, I'm begginer

This mount looks exactly like the one on my JCPenney 135mm 2.8 which I believe is a clone of your lens. Please, have a look at the pictures of the lens (particularly the third one where the mount is visible), if you wish you can read my review there as well:

So yes, the lens you have has the Pentax K mount. If you need more info on that one, don't hesitate to send me a private message.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Weird that fogging happened only to the HP5 and not to the other films. Perhaps something bad happened to this particular box on its way between the factory and your freezer (custom's X-ray?). If that behavior is, however, known for this film then I hope there will be some forum users that can confirm that.

Hi,

I don't know the exact chemical processes that happen during film aging (I can imagine for instance oxidation of the sensibilizers, recrystallization of the silver halide grains or diffusion of these components between the emulsion layers), but I would not really worry. As a rule of thumb, by decreasing the reaction temperature by 10 degrees Celsius, the rate of a chemical reaction (and of diffusion in solids) decreases by a factor of 2. So, if you go from room temperature (roughly 20 deg C) to freezer temperature (roughly -20 deg C) you will slow down the degradation processes in your film by a factor of 16. This means that, (in theory) if you store your film in a freezer you can forget about the expiry date that is printed on the box.
From my personal experience: I shot Ektachrome 100 film expired by 4-5 years that I stored in a fridge and the results were excellent.

Have fun with your HP5!

Wojciech

Filter advice

Hi Brinno,

I take pictures on film with and without filters every now and then since quite some time. Here is my subjective advice for different types of film and situations:

B&W: For avoiding blowing-out of sky and to give more contrast between the sky and the clouds, a yellow (or an orange) filter will work very well. If you want a stronger effect you can use a red filter. In these situations I prefer a color filter than a polarizer because you don't have to turn it to get the optimal effect - just put a color filter on, and you are ready to go. Overall, for white clouds on a blue sky I had good results with an orange filter. With red I found that the relative luminance of various objects of the picture varies too much from the original scene (blue and green objects get too much darkened, while red objects become almost white) - you have to be careful there.

Color negatives - I would forget about using any color filters. The color temperature can be corrected at the printing stage. A polarizer can be very helpful for darkening the sky though.

Color slides - I guess this is where the cooling or warming filters shine. Unforunately, I don't have any experience with using them - I always shot color slides without any filters.

UV filters - I think they are mostly useful on high altitudes where the UV light is relatively strong, and can cause haze while photographing distant objects. I never made any tests with and without, but to be honest I have never had a any trouble with UV light ruining my shots (the highest altitude I ever took any pictures was around 2200 m above the sea level). I am not a landscape photographer though.

And a general remark - If you decide to use filters do buy decent ones. Once I bought a set of cheap non-coated Polariod filters (UV, Polarizer and "fluorescent") and was rather disapponted with them - the UV filter decreased sharpness of the pictures, the polarizer gave some slight yellowish tint, and I still have to find any use for the "fluorescent" one  ).

Hope that helps,

Wojciech

white point on the lens

Hi,

It looks like the white spot is on the first element. If that is true, then it can't be balsam separation because the only cemented elements are the 4th and 5th (counting from the front of the lens). See: SMC/S-M-C/Super Takumar 50mm F1.4 Reviews - M42 Screwmount Normal Primes - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

I have no qualifications to judge whether it is fungus or not. But if it isn't, then what else could it be???

Short telephoto for landscape/architecture with a film SLR

I have an update: I got an M100/2.8. My initial impressions on handling are quite good - it seems to be easier to focus in the viewfinder compared to my 135mm JC Penney – my guess is that it is a combination of a more accurate focus ring and a higher light transmission (or just clarity).
It was really nice to see all the suggestions from you. What I really liked was to learn that even though in the reviews, the M100 has a higher numerical rating than M120, it was actually the latter one that is regarded as the “better” one by those who own both lenses. A great example of how numbers in user’s reviews can be misleading.
Although initially the M120/2.8 was my favorite, I settled on the M100/2.8 simply because it was for sale in the city I live in. But since it was a winner in the weight category and also was a bit further away from the 135 in focal length than the M120/2.8, I am happy with it. It will take a while though before I will finish my first roll with it and have it developed, so I have to wait with the final judgement.
Stay safe,
Wojciech
