Samyang / Rokinon 85mm on K-1?

I think Samyang 8mm and 10mm and 16mm are not FF. The 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 85mm, 50mm, 100mm macro, and 135mm are FF. You can find sample photos of these lenses on many FF cameras, from Canon, Nikon, and Sony; as well as FF reviews about vignetting, CA, distortion, edge resolution.
So while you wait for test shots of these lenses on K-1, you can look at their FF performance in other systems. Considering they use the same optics regardless of mount, it should be a good indication. Especially if you look at camera like D800E, D810, as it has practically the same sensor as K-1.

K1 Wedding Photography Impressions

Don't know how many folks on here shoot weddings, but I gave my K-1 a workout the day after it arrived and wanted to give my first impressions. I was going to have it for my second camera because I was nervous about using an unfamiliar camera for such critical pictures as a wedding. Just looking at the pictures on the back of the screen, the K-1 was outperforming my K-3 so much that I ended up using the K-1 for all important shots.

My first impression when looking through images is, "Where are the out of focus shots?" Seriously, even when the af doesn't seem that much faster in certain situations, it is so accurate that I am completely blown away.

Obviously, the high ISO is amazing, I probably don't even need to comment about that.

The tilting screen was my biggest surprise of the day. I have never used live view before. Today, I went crazy with it for detail shots that I would have formerly had to get on chairs to get. I think I'll have to start trying it with people. Focus is great in live view.

It's intuitive. Coming from a K-3, I didn't have to read a manual to figure out how to do everything I needed to. Some things that bothered me initially I am really starting to like, such as the different spot for the playback button. The focus select being a black square took some getting used to. If I am pointing the camera at dark objects I can't always see where my focus point is until it lights up. I like the square the rest of the time, though, and the camera knew where the focus point was even if I didn't.

I had done another wedding in the same church less than a year ago. I just really hope the brides don't compare wedding pictures, because the ones from today are that much better! In particular, the earlier time the walking in pictures were soft because I had a strong backlight from a door and the camera struggled. The backlit shots today were amazing and the camera didn't hesitate a bit.

I did not expect this lens to work so well - but it's focusing quicker than on my K3 ii, there is no noticeable vignetting (unless i am missing something), it looks great on the camera, and feels fast even though it's only 2.8.

Photo below was shot at 12,800 ISO (!), 1/400, 3.2... Cleaned up a little in Lightroom. I specifically upgraded to the K1 to get the high ISO quality and I am pretty shocked at his one. I do think 12,800 is pushing it a bit, but it worked.

This is my daughter in her first Trapeze class. A lot of my kids classes take place in warehouses converted for sporting so I am always trying to push the shutter speeds and ISO.

I have only actually shot with two of them before when they came to the Hat and I got them access to the interior of a closed historical pottery plant.

I am sure that they also shoot MF and 35mm as well as digital. I get their mailing list and correspond occasionally but this will be the first time I will be going to Calgary to shoot with them. Myself I am more of a medium format shooter, Holga, Diana and Hasselblad.

The wait is literally unbearable.

Btw, are we at pentaxforums will have a kinda Laboratory too? There is soooo much third party legacy glass that is not being part of Ricoh's Lab. Would be really cool to have a place to check shots of these lenses on a full frame sensor.

At least Gabriel didn't tell Mary to name her immaculately-conceived offspring "K-1".

Wise men all showing up with tripods, SD cards, and low-dispersion filters... spending all night alternating between pictures of barnyard cats and astrophotography of that weird shooting star... Herod trying to chase down specs of all the cameras released in the last year and Virgin Pentax left out and forgotten in the media cold...

Advantages of FF

I wouldn't claim that APS-C cameras are just bridge cameras to FF. The smaller format does a damn good job of standing on its own. That being said, I'm going to run with the metaphor anyway.

There are plenty of people who will never have a need or desire to cross that format bridge. Nonetheless, with the K mount full frame officially on it's way now it will soon be entirely possible to have have one foot on each side of that bridge and still firmly be in Pentax land. Unfortunately, people who are simply asking and answering questions about what to expect on the other side of that metaphorical bridge can't seem to do so on this forum without a non-metaphorical troll butting in each and every time.

Often times I get a laugh out of watching the troll jump up and down while it waves its arms and grunts repeatedly. But after a while, it reduces to simply being obnoxious, unnecessary, and unwelcome. It's as if the troll believes that if it is relentlessly louder than everyone else it will succeed in preventing anyone from journeying across that bridge or even casting a glance in that direction. Well, the troll won't ever succeed to that extreme but it sure has made it difficult for people on the two sides of that format bridge to have an intelligent and fruitful conversation. It's a shame.

Its really time for an END to this bickering over FF versus APS. I don't see bickering like that in the gallery i work for, i don't see it in the theater i work for nor do i see it in the photography club i attend. The bickering is just ugly and personal and its time for it to end. My hope is that the moderators will just close down all threads with this petty bickering in it. Its just petty BS. Do you really think that is all photography has to offer- bickering and trading sarcasm over who has the best equipment :( Thats the sole takeway for young people to emulate?

What Should Pentax Do?

So your answer is to give up AF and everyone go back to manual focus.

I shoot events. I will typically be shooting in multiple lighting conditions during a given event and no time to set up my x-rite color checker or play around with a hand held meter. I need equipment that works as fast as I do. I know your just being a drama queen, but not all of us are fine are photographers with hours to setup each shot. Some of use are working with moving subjects under rapidly changing lighting conditions (STAGE LIGHTS). Maybe you're not being a drama queen. Maybe you just don't understand.

Sensor resolution that makes sense on FF and cost

Why is the Sony A7s with its paltry 12MP sensor so highly lauded? Megapixels aren't everything, and they certainly have no bearing on my desire to upgrade to FF.
