I hope Eric is one of those photographers who sells his work at art festivals. This image would sell well.
So many great elements; outstanding !!!

ISO 800 at 95mm. It was a strange day, with rain in the air, but not falling from the sky. The sun had broken through and a rainbow showed faintly in the northern sky. The conditions were just right for this image. A little abstract. No post processing. Slight crop.

Good point...........getting any crisp, sharp images should rule out the lens. Since I bought the camera a few months back on eBay, I think I'm out of luck there. It was used to begin with. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I am beginning to believe that this is a problem with either the lens or the camera. I don't have a "real" camera store anywhere near my house or I would try to borrow the use of a Pentax lens to rule that out. I was approximately 5 to 6 feet away from the flowers. All the flowers fell into the same plane........only about a couple of inches deeper or closer. I was shooting at f/14, 1/2000th in normal exposure mode at 88 mm. There is nothing that would indicate problems because of movement (it was a still breeze out) or minimum focusing distance or lack of DOF. It has to be an equipment problem.

I have been a photographer for 50+ years and have owned many systems, including Nikon, Fujifilm, Pentax (medium format film and lots of lenses) and Canon. Never experienced a similar problem, even after shooting 200+ weddings, working for a professional sports team, working as a photojournalist, portraiture or any other scenario. Unfortunately, my printer picked now not to work, or I would simply print a resolution chart/focus chart and start by testing that way. I have included another image below from the camera where the subject is flat, although this is at f/4.5 and 54 mm, but it is in clear focus. Any ideas or insights would be appreciated. Thank you for the previous comments.......just received a notification today and just saw them.

There are so many great images nominated and so many talented photographers. I thought there might be a few images that don't really meet the "movement" portion of the challenge. This image emphasizes that characteristic and has interesting light and is perfectly exposed. In black and white, it sets a mood. Very nice.

Subjects in the same frame, even at f/14, have varying levels of focus. Is this a sensor problem or bad glass? K-1 and 28-105......both bought used, so either one could be the problem. Suggestions would be appreciated. Enlarged more, the flowers at the highest position are in focus, as are the flowers near bottom, second group in from left. Everything else is out of focus.

Thank you for the input..........I bought the camera through eBay from a private source, and they don't offer returns. I will try your suggestion.

Thank you for your insights. I always use autofocus. (and liveview, as well as the viewfinder) I will try manual with liveview and see what results. I had already run some test shots with higher shutter speeds. I have been a working photographer for more than 50 years and have owned an enormous amount of professional equipment, so this problem has been somewhat vexing. Good to get suggestions from others who have more experience with this camera. Thanks.

Not sure what the problem is, but I had bought both the K-1 and 28-105 used from different sources. I cannot get a really clear image. Even using a stationary tabletop subject, with the camera on a tripod and using various settings, when enlarged, no images are sharp. I have seen many people in these forums using the same combo with tack-sharp images. Did I get a bad lens? Can the camera have this kind of defect? Haven't had this problem with any of my previous equipment. Any suggestions?
I don't know anyone locally with a Pentax lens (especially a prime lens) that I could try to use to test to see if it is my lens. Anyone else hear of this problem before?

Floyd,
Thanks for the advice. Your image is tack-sharp.......very nice. I have owned dozens of cameras during my 50+ years as a photographer and was surprised at all of the out of focus shots I had with this first real outing with the K-1 and 28-105 lens. Seemed like one or the other was faulty.......bought used, so who knows. Will try your suggestions and maybe pick up a good manual lens as well. My images were mostly focused on things that weren't the main subject.

Finally took the new K-1 out in nature to the ledges in Peninsula, Ohio. Not sure if the camera or lens is faulty, but could not get most images to focus correctly. This is just a random image from the hike. Not very good. Just a tree that has figured out how to grow out of rock by holding on. My first post in these forums.

I bought the 28-105 today. When it is possible to do so, I will buy some of the other lenses suggested..........I have them all listed. When I had my Pentax 645N, I had a great collection of both MF and AF lenses. Wish I had them today.........sold them all at a fraction of what they are probably worth. I most recently owned a Canon system and sold that camera, flash and all the lenses and before that, the same with Nikon and Fuji before that. A lot of glass has come and gone from my camera bags and backpacks. Hopefully, I will like the K-1 as much as I liked the medium format Pentax. We all have an expensive hobby. I still have much of my studio equipment as well and will hold onto that.

Thank you for the insights..........the 28-105 happened to be the one at the top of my list after my own research. I'll certainly have to take a look at that 31mm as well.

Just purchased a used K-1 body today. Bought the body and an L-plate, charger and batteries. I have read about lenses in these forums and read reviews on a number of lenses on other sites. Because of some concurrent expenses, and the cost of the K-1 purchase, I have to limit what I spend on a first lens. I have recently sold the last of all of my Canon equipment, and when the 645N first hit the market, I bought one. Although I have owned nearly every brand after being a serious hobbyist and working photographer for more than 50 years, my interest in Pentax has come full circle. I loved the 645N and only sold it, and many great lenses, when I converted to digital.

If you were to own one travel/carry-around lens for the K-1, and you were not planning on paying four figures, what would it be? I have always loved my prime lenses, but if there is a reasonably sharp zoom, I'm all ears. Would be good to get some feedback since I want to get some decent glass to get started with this great camera.

Thank you for your thoughts.

It is like comparing 2D with 3D.....incredibly distinct difference in the image quality between the two.
