Thanks Mike
Seems that v1.11 will be sufficient my needs. Appreciate help - I'll give it a bash tomorrow. I'll come back any problems.

PS The ME Super. What a cracker. My first SLR.

Cheers. eggmammal

Old Timer brains needed K10 Firmware and the "Russian Workaround/Hack"

Hi
Had a K10 for years. It died after lots of use. Loved it. Needed a new SLR v.quickly as away on a trip shortly. Decided to get a second hand K10 as stop-gap - It arrived today. Trying to set it up before I head off. Running out of time.

I'm ploughing though various threads, forums etc, searching my old bookmarks etc but not getting anywhere fast enough.
Can anyone help/confirm any of the the following or in an act of human kindness help out please?

A
Camera I just got is firmware version1. There seems no option to use the OK button and front dial as ISO changer when in Manual mode. I was expecting this function and it not being there is a serious bummer. I think this was a shortcoming which was tweaked/overcome with ver 1.2 upgrade which was the firmware on the K10 I bought years ago. Correct? I need this functionality.

B
How/where can I find a location to update the v1 this replacment camera has to the v1.2 I used?

C
Back/front focusing lens issues could be adjusted using a firmware hack. I think it was widely known as the "Russian Hack"??? This hack went into hidden menues in v1.2 and allowed adjustments. I used it at the time but just cannot find any reference to it on my bookmarks/downloads etc.

I remember being very nervous about doing the hack but there were clear instructions and all worked out well and pin sharp lens focus as a result.

Can anyone point me towards the Russian Hack and instructions please? Perhaps there were other hacks? - anything that works safely will be enough but I need to have some confidence that things will go OK - I seem to be reading bits about some hacks going pear shaped but I could be speed reading too quickly.

D
From searches I see there are references to version 1.3 etc etc. I get the impression such firmware updates shut down access to some of the tweaking I want access to as per the Russian? Once installed, reversion from v1.3 to earlier seems difficult? True or not, I'd really just be happy to get to v1.2 and the Russian hack so long as I can get the ISO functionality back again and the opportunity to tweak front/back focusing.

I will keep looking but if there's someone out there who can help in a hurry and who knows what I'm after and is confident that I'll then be using the correct sources etc, I would be extrememly grateful. And that's putting it mildly.

Thank you very much.

eggmammal.
