Didn’t see this one asked, not sure if it is too late...
With several third party lens manufacturers announcing they will no longer support K mount, will Pentax pursue any new partnerships with lens producers to fill gaps in the roadmap or elsewhere with additional “rebadged” offerings? Or does Pentax intend to produce all new lenses itself?

Top left corner images do appear to be blurrier than the other corners, however it might have been this way before (I got this lens about six weeks ago, but I hadn't done a baseline test yet). I'll never know, I suppose. Also on further inspection I can't find an issue with the aperture mechanism, except that from 2.8, to 3.2, to 3.5, I don't find that it seems to get much darker. At f/4 and above it goes noticeably, incrementally darker with each stop. But perhaps from 2.8 to 3.5 it is just not very noticeable. I was testing this under natural light with constant shutter speed and ISO, but I will try with a controlled artificial light.

So what happened with this?? I'm curious because mine also took a tumble today, from about 2-2.5 feet while inside a padded camera bag. The lens cap on mine is cracked but the glass seems okay, however I suspect the aperture mechanism is not working properly. It doesn't seem to move much when I adjust it.

Came across this blog article about one photographer's light painting technique and noted that he is using a Pentax system. "Personally, I use the Pentax K-1 with a Pentax 15-30 f/2.8 for the majority of my images. Late at night when I want to incorporate stars I often work with an open aperture and ISO 6400. This combination handles that perfectly."

Don't be asinine. You are plainly suggesting that simply by asking about a lens I must be a stupid gear fetishist, while you yourself have somehow transcended any such amateurish mindset. As though photographers with command over their craft never try new tools! It's ridiculous and completely off topic. The forum has other threads for those views. But thank you for your input.

Don't cast aspersions. I asked about the 85 because I am still new to Pentax and would like to make photos using a fast lens in that focal range (i.e. do more portraiture). The market for used lenses is not the same everywhere and buying used online is always a gamble. The 85 is also touted to have other useful features not available in older lenses. It's ridiculous to suggest that people simply wondering about the status of a lens the company has been teasing for two years somehow have a less pure interest in photography.

I don't work for Ricoh/Pentax, I'm just going by what gets reported in photography outlets. Out of curiosity, what is the source on this claim that Pentax does not directly support third party?

Fair point. So I guess the roadmap really is more of a wishlist and not an actual guide to product development.

If Pentax themselves withdrew participation in third party support, it would explain why multiple third party brands terminated support so close together. Sigma and LensBaby come to mind this year alone, when did Tamron withdraw? It wasn't that long ago was it?

So you're saying they might scrap this new 85mm star lens altogether? I understand there are significant factors beyond the company's control, but why announce something that doesn't stand much chance of coming to pass? It is only rational to presume that by announcing the lens, they are committing to make it unless serious misfortune intervenes.

I can't find any information on the release date of this lens that was published more recently than May/June of this year. According to the updated road map and the most recent stories, it is still supposed to release in 2019. Does anyone have any recent information about when this lens will be available? Has it been pushed back? Thanks

I was watching the Amazon.ca price on 3C and it dipped to $1,190 CAD on September 18 so I pounced. That's under $900 USD.
