I never understand the people who say "why would anyone need xyz technological improvement". It was the same for memory (why need more), harddrives (why need bigger), phone screens (why need larger), megapixels (who needs more than 8MP), etc. etc. etc. I'm a perfectly normal, non-flashy, non-measurebating photographer who could use more megapixels because it allows me more flexibility in cropping. Why debate against progress. The Canon crowd has been worst in this regard rationalizing the lack of features/performance in their system and Canon has responded by providing the most incremental of upgrades. I don't want to wait years more for an upgrade from Pentax because the 645Z is "enough".

I wasn't a fan of the rendering of the 75, I think it's the lens that most needs an optical update.

I love my 645Z and lenses but it's VERY irksome there has been no news or leak regarding the 645z replacement, nor is there any news about a professional program. I want to stay with Pentax but their communication and pace of development need to improve or they won't attract new system users and the existing ones will eventually bail as competitors continue to innovate with both equipment and services.

Is anyone here in contact with Ricoh? I found out that the Pentax professional program was disbanded and I'm curious if there are any plans to implement or start anything new. Customer service at Ricoh has been clueless.

So jealous, that price was bonkers, I paid a lot more. Looking forward to seeing your photos from it.
No insult was taken! Besides even "pros" can take bad photos :)
I still remember the first photo critique I received was someone telling me to take my camera to the sidewalk and smash it because I'll never take a good photo.

I love the feel of the photo and the composition, the color seems intense on my monitor, but it might just be my monitor or my overworked eyeballs. ---------- Post added 06-21-18 at 03:02 PM ---------- More portraits from the FA 300mm F4.
PS - I'm not connected to the seller in any way and cannot vouch for him or the sale but there is a FA 300mm F4 selling for a ridiculously low price on Fred Miranda |

It better be professional looking or I need to close shop and find a new job
I used to use the Canon 200 F1.8 for portraits and now the 300mm is my go to. It's a lens that just makes everything look better. The AF is very fast too. It was a large investment but the look of the lens, beautiful isolation, clarity and color are pure Pentax. I've used the Hasselblad 300mm with the H4D-60 and although it's not an apples to apples comparison, my overall impression was the Pentax 300mm is better.

Thanks, the shoot was one of my most challenging physically, lugging equipment places with no pavement in extremely hot and humid weather with light fading and trying to direct a very young, new model. So much effort, planning and work went into the shoot and it has my fewest likes on Instagram haha
You actually don't need a very long studio for the 300mm if shooting tight portraits. My studio is pretty small, I back up about 10ft.

I just joined the lovely Pentax forum family. This photo was taken with the Pentax 645z and Pentax 300mm FA. I love the rendering of this lens, excellent clarity, micro-contrast and I've found no fault with sharpness. |
