I downloaded the installer to my Mac and ran it - it opens but then nothing happens with no options to download and install firmware. I have access to a Windows machine if that might work better?

I know this thread has been dead for a while. Is there any way to do this now? I have a V6ii transceiver on the original firmware that I would like to update. Any help gratefully received!

Pentax DA* 55/1,4 AF issue? AF not working after some time of inactivity?

My DA* 55mm did something similar, it needed "waking up" for a few minutes when I first put it on the camera. Manually focusing from close to infinity and back again while holding the AF button maybe helped, or maybe just made me feel better, like when you press the button in the lift three times to make it go faster. It was quiet though, no grinding or whistling (a quiet whirr maybe), and once warmed up worked well. Love this focal length.

Macro lens on K1 to digitize 645 B/W negs

I use the F-series 50mm f2.8 macro. It was cheap, and I can set everything manually and no worry about accidentally changing the aperture or whatever. I do 6x6 and 6x7 and 35mm with it, so you’ll be fine with 645.

85mm options for MX - looking past the M-series f2...

I enjoy the 85mm focal length for portraits but don't have an 85 for my MX. I like this lovely compact camera and don't want to put anything too large on the front of it (Samyang 85mm f1.4 is out I think). I don't have 77mm f1.8 money, should I stop thinking about it and just find a good condition M-series 85mm f2 or are there other lenses in this focal length I should consider? Is it worth looking at one of the Pentax M42 mount 85s or even a Jupiter-9? I'm planning to shoot a mix of colour and black and white, indoors and out if that matters.

Thanks for your help!

Best zoom lens for candids

I enjoy snapping my kids with the 50-135mm f2.8. It's a bit heavier than some of the other options but outdoors makes for a versatile zoom (no wide angle options but will go full body to headshots) and I like being able to open her up, although the sharpness suffers just a bit at f2.8.

Same with the Sigma 18-35mm. Better AF could make this a really good lens.

Lenses Everyone Buys and Eventually Sells- Or Tries to Sell

This rings true...

1. Took my baby photos with it, never parting with it. But the hexagonal bokeh irritates me at times.
2. Gave it to a friend after I got the 55mm f1.4
3. Still have, never use.
4. Sold
5. I had a Sigma 70-300 instead, sold
6. I got the A series instead for some reason, after a couple of years I have an ME Super on its way to go with it.
7. Got the Sigma 18-35mm as my normal zoom instead.
8. See above.
9. 50-135mm FTW
10. Love this. Small, sharp, CA goes away when you stop down a bit. But I use it as a manual focus lens so I could have an older macro instead.

Is it a good idea? Switching from DA* 50-135mm f2.8 to Sigma 50-150mm f2.8

I've owned both. Short answer, both are good lenses, but for whatever reason the Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 didn't autofocus properly on my K3ii. It was fine on my K50, and on a friend's KS2. So I gave it to her and got a used Pentax 50-135mm. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome - the Pentax is a bit shorter I think, which I prefer, but most importantly the colours are much better. The Sigma had a muddy warmth that I didn't like (fixable in post but annoying to have to adjust), the Pentax is more saturated especially in the blues. It just seems to represent what I could see better. I'm still using the SDM and it's just fast enough for kids in the park, but for sport I would try converting to screw drive or geting something else.

My copy behaves exactly like this. It’s worse if I don’t use the lens for a while. I put up with it for the wonderful quality of the images.

I recently found two old Fuji point-and-shoot cameras in a box and after charging the batteries they work fine. Buttons are small but they both have a fully metal body and I don’t mind if they get destroyed. Two-year old took a 14mp extreme close-up selfie yesterday which might come out on his wedding day.

Good results, don’t suppose anyone ever made one of these for 6x6 negatives?
