I wouldn't say its irrelevant. It all depends on the FOV the photographer prefers to work with. There is no right or wrong with these things. All a matter preference.

Pentax doesn't move at the same rate as other companies. Other companies might move at a faster rate, but move in a different direction. New doesn't always equate to better.
Even if it never gets released, is it an issue for you if you were not in the market in the first place?
Tony also thinks ISO is fake.
Are you sure? Who knows what the market demand will be for Pentax IF they were to fade away. The demand for niche, vintage, and discontinued goods on the secondary market might surprise you. Contax comes to mind (in the photo world).
I think you need to figure out what exactly you are looking to accomplish.
You mentioned the following:
- A7III: A fifth generation mirrorless
- RP: A first generation, entry level mirrorless
- Z6: A first generation, enthusiast mirrorless
Without delving into the minutia, three completely different tiers of camera.
You can't fault the K1, if the only justifications spun up for purchasing an A7III were:
- Tony and Chelsea
- You already have two Sony Cameras
- K3II replacement may never come
K1 can't help you there. It can take pictures, though....
Can't answer that. I haven't looked at their earnings. I prefer to use cameras, not dabble in defense of their P&L and quarterlies. Why?
- I don't work for them, I don't invest in them
- They don't profit share for my advocacy
- They pay people to dabble in that (their employees) and I pay for their cameras...pretty simple relationship, really...
I don't expect them to move as fast as Canon or Nikon. I expect them to move at a pace that is in line with profitability while working to meet consumer demands.
I love Nikon. Nikon dropped two turd muffin mirrorless cameras (they are actually good cameras...but it serves as an example of company direction vs. customer interest) in place of building enough 500mm f/5.6 lenses. Yea, new stuff from Nikon. 'Great.'

It's a matter of preference. I like the shallower depth of field that can be achieved with a full-frame sensor, resulting in better subject isolation. I noticed this immediately when I moved from the D500 to the D850 with my f/4 telephoto glass.
To each their own. Find what works for you.

I see no difference in 'taking' or 'making'. I am sure some of your favorite photographs are happy accidents. I am also certain that some of your 'visualized' shots might not have gone as you might have expected.
What ultimately matters is if you find the process and the outcome to be enjoyable. If an EVF makes it easier for the user to capture the scene (either predetermined or shifting as they move dials), perfect. If a user can take a look at a scene, and know exactly the settings to make prior to pressing shutter, fantastic. I don't see one being any less skilled than the other, as it's not my place to judge or assume one is greater than the other.

I would hold out for the K-3II successor if you intend on staying with Pentax. The K-1/K-1II is not a suitable replacement as it lacks the FPS, Buffer, and Pixel Pitch that made the K-3II suitable for Sports/Action/Wildlife. Certainly, you can make any system work, but if you are seeking a performance oriented camera, the K-3II (and its successor) would be the right tool for the job.
I recently upgraded my D500 to a D850 (which has a MUCH louder shutter) A shutter can startle a species, but so can your sudden presence (trust me, you think you are being stealthy...you're not). All of my successful shots came from waiting and watching, not stalking and surprising. Pick a spot, give it 10 to 15 minutes and life/activity begins to resume around you.
Tracking is definitely not something I have ever relied upon in the field. It might work for subjects that move in a predictive path with little obstruction, but with active wildlife, I have found fast Focus Acquisition and Back Button Focusing to be features that contribute to greater success.
55-300 PLM, D FA 150-450, and DA 300 (even though it's getting a little old) are snappy enough. For the 150-450, you can reduce travel and speed up focus acquisition by engaging the limiter and focus presets (setting one of the four buttons to a set distance).
The D FA 150-450 is a fantastic, feature rich lens that would be perfect for any compatible body.

I only conduct a micro-adjustment if I consistently see and can reproduce a front or back focus. So far, of the Pentax lenses I own, only the D FA* 50mm f/1.4 required a calibration (-5) on my K-1ii.

Some questions regarding the Squirrel image:
- is the EXIF accurate with the ISO that is logged (ISO 12800)
- what focusing mode did you use (eg: Center, SEL, Auto, etc.)
- were you hand holding the 600mm or did you have it stabilized
- did you have SR turned on

I think the Datacolor Spyder Lenscal is a great investment. If you are committed to conducting a fine tune, then this feedback is absolutely spot-on:
I will expand with the following:
- place your camera on a tripod
- make sure the target is well lit
- turn OFF image stabilization
- shoot at the widest aperture available
- shoot at a lower ISO (I would aim for 800 or lower)
- shoot with a shutter speed equal to or GREATER than the max focal length to mitigate shake and increase sharpness
- use single point focus
The 'broad based' rule on distance between target and camera is: (Focal Length * n)
- 'n' is typically a value between 25-50
If you were calibrating a 50mm lens and wanted to use the value of '50' for n, then you would have '2500'. Once converted to feet, will give you the distance between your camera and the target (8.2 feet).
I use the term 'broad based' because you can find sites suggesting using 'n' values of 25, 35, or common working distances for you with that lens.
'common' working distances are especially applicable for larger telephotos as by the time you get to the 'recommended' distance, Heat/Atmospheric conditions can play a factor. If you have larger glass, just pick a general working distance like 45ft (if optimizing a 500mm prime).
Zooms are tricky. Many Camera bodies only allow you to set one value. In that case, optimize for the common focal distance used.
Personally...I tend to avoid AF Fine Tune unless I am CONSISTENTLY seeing mis-focus and can reproduce it in ideal light settings.
I have only one gripe with the AF Adjustment on the K-1II. If you have multiple User settings and intend on using that lens for each User setting, you have to remember to set the Adjustment value for each User scene.

Yup. Gen 3 was just testing the waters of boredom and Gen 4 was an acceptance to homogenize with the masses.
These Gen 2s are great cars. Prone to gasket leaks, but that is easily mitigated with regular service from a competent mechanic. The previous owner was negligent in their maintenance, which was what prompted me to replace the block and repair the turbo. It drives like a new car with the cabin/road noise of a 15 year old vehicle (which is sort of charming).
Hope to drive this thing into the ground as a Subaru can be a 'lifetime' vehicle.

Pentax APS-C Low Light and High ISO IQ has always been a few notches above Nikon and several notches above Canon (perhaps due to the 1.6x crop). I love my Nikon D500 and although I have never handled the KP, I have looked at some of the higher ISO DNGs and have been really impressed.
The ISO 819,200 test is silly. Although it is impressive what is retained at such an absurdly high ISO, I think the article should have focused on the commonly used ISOs to showcase just how GOOD the KP really is against other APS-C bodies. A casual reader will glance at that and say, 'who shoots at that high an ISO anyways'. The quality of the image and less work needed in post is, in my opinion, what separates Pentax at 800 to 6400 from the APS-C bodies offered by Canon, Fuji, and Nikon.
I never go above ISO 3200 with my Nikon D500. I'd do it without hesitation with the KP and K70.
Hopefully, I'm not one of those D500 owners.

2004 Subaru Forester 2.5XT
Recently replaced the block, repaired the turbo, and installed new suspension. Love the performance and handling of these turbo Subies.
There are some smaller/quirky things that are on my list to eventually replace:
- Passenger Side Window Motor
- Trunk/Hatch Lift Supports
- Replace Front Lights (Dehazed on two separate occasions)

From my personal experience comparing the GRII's 18mm f/2.8 to the Pentax K-5IIs with the DA-21mm f/3.2:
- wide open, the GRII's 18mm is more center sharp at 2.8 vs DA-21mm at f/3.2
From my experience, the DA-21 is best at f/4.
I can't comment on the KP vs. GRIII. I would imagine the K-5IIs vs. GRII is a good comparison.
