That's all correct except that it was Reese's Pieces which were featured in the movie rather than Skittles. Skittles and Reese's Pieces were introduced to the American market around the same time, both in 1979 (though Skittles were sold in the U.K. before that). Reese's Pieces exploded in popularity thanks to the movie. That was in 1982. Skittles biggest boost in popularity didn't come until the successful "Taste the Rainbow" ad campaign in 1994 (obviously they weren't an abject failure before that, or they would have been dropped).

Incidentally, Reese's Pieces are made by Hershey Corporation while M&Ms are made by Mars. Skittles are made by Wrigley in the US, which was its own company up until 2008 when it was acquired by Mars.

I was thinking, '...when you try to plan a group hiking outing and you are puzzled when other people suggest times like 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. instead of 4 p.m.'

How about '...when you start paying attention to pictures in advertisements because you're trying to estimate the focal length and flash setup (or whether they used a flash) they used.'

Equivalent focal length with crop factor

That doesn't matter. Focal length is the only thing that affects projected image size (that is, the only thing related to optics; changing distance to subject will of course change the projected image size of the subject). Perhaps you misunderstand what he meant when he said "projected image size." The projected image size is the absolute size of the image when it hits the sensor regardless of the sensor size, so smaller or larger sensors will capture a smaller or larger part of that image, not a smaller or larger version of the image. If the image circle of the lens is smaller or larger it will project a smaller or larger part of the image, not a smaller or larger image.

That's not what the original statement was about. It was about what I said in my previous post. That's why I said that perhaps you misunderstood dtmateojr when he first used the term, "projected image size." I'm guessing that Fogel70 misunderstood as well. Incidentally, just in case there is any question, it doesn't matter what system a lens was made for, at the same focal length, the projected image size will be the same (at least as long as it's mounted at the correct registration distance for the lens of course).

Why is there so much interest in adapting large size lenses?

You seem to be under the impression that the people who like to use adapted telephoto lenses for incredible reach and the people who enjoy a small, light kit for convenience are two completely discrete groups. I don't really think that's true. I'd guess that in reality there is a lot of overlap between them. Also, macro with adapted lenses makes a lot of sense on the Q. When using the Q, thanks to the small sensor size, you get a much greater working distance and/or magnification and a much greater depth of field with the same lenses.

Let's share shots with Q!

I finally received my Q7. I was fooling around with some of the different filters and effects. This is shot with one of the quick dial presets, "Brilliant Color," and with the 01 lens. Other than the resize (with Gimp) this is straight out of the camera.

Edit: A section of Goldmine Stream Falls, Hamilton County, New York. Rocks in the streambed like those in the foreground are where the name of the stream comes from.

Thanks for looking.

Looking at 2 old cheap lenses (50mm M f1.7 and Industar61 - 50mm f2.8). Any opinions?

Actually the L/Z means it is an M42 mount lens, so it should focus to infinity fine with a proper adapter. It's only the L/D lenses that were M39 Leica mount (as opposed to M39 Zenit mount). The L/Z versions were for Zenit SLRs that were M42 mount (the first Zenit SLRs were M39 threaded (but with 45.2mm registration), then they switched to regular M42 mount, and finally to K mount). I don't believe there are any of these lenses for the Zenit M39 mount, which is good since it would only add to the confusion.

Edit: Incidentally, it's possible (though I don't know this for sure) that the "D" in L/D stands for "Dzerzhinsky," the name of the founder (Correction: It was just named in honor of him.) of the FED rangefinder camera brand (Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky) to indicate the lens is for FED cameras and the "Z" in L/Z stands for "Zenit" to indicate those lenses are for Zenit SLRs.
