Well done!
I lost my cover for my K-5 in a blizzard this past winter. I've been thinking about making a replacement as well.

Thank you for the link, very informative!

Do you know if an adapter that is designed to allow the 'pinned' lenses to function well would also work with auto/manual and fully manual lenses?
Thanks for the info!

Some questions about extension tubes and diopters

Thanks to your suggestion, I've now got myself a Pentax-M 50mm F4 Macro!
It just arrived today and appears to be in very good condition.

And thank you, to everyone else who's been very helpful in expanding my knowledge on macro-ralated things!

I plan to eventually get a set of extension tubes and a nice flash. I'll continue to use my diopters, but won't have to rely on them nearly as much anymore.

Here's a photo of my cat's nose I took with the 50mm F4.

Oh yeah, the D FA versions are quite a bit smaller and lighter now that I look at them!
I've been trying to keep my lenses below 300-400g, and the D FA versions are right in there.

Yeah, this forum has helped me out with all of my photography-related questions. Everyone is pretty nice and helpful!
I got started on this forum asking questions about my K1000 and what digital cameras I could use its lenses on. Now I've got a K-5 and some nice lenses to go with it.

Have fun with your Fujica!

Cleaning mucky camera strap?

I was able to clean off the disintegrating rubber stuff from my strap by washing it in the sink for a while.
But yeah, you're better off buying a new strap. I also looked into the Domke strap, but apparently their quality has dropped a bit in the past couple years, judging from some reviews. Although, I'm unsure if that's true.

Nature Toads came out for the rain.

Took some photos of some toads that had come out for the impending rain.

I used my Magnicon XC 28-70mm lens on F8 for the larger toad and my Ricoh 35mm at F8 for the smaller toads.
Both lenses had +6 diopter.

The larger toad wasn't quite in focus because my diopter adjustment on the viewfinder had gotten moved by accident.

Anyone else have some amphibious photos they'd like to share?

After starting a thread on this forum asking what DSLR I should get, I got a lot of responses saying a K-5 would work well. (Thread: What's a decent budget DSLR for a newbie? - Page 8 - PentaxForums.com)

And 11 days later, I've got my new K-5!

Glad I asked for advice, it's a fantastic camera!
Still learning how to use it, so any advice is welcomed!

Alright.
So, using a 50mm lens on my K-5 will give me the same field of view as using a 75mm lens on my K1000?

Thanks, I'm glad I got it!
Oh, nice! I got mine with only about 6000 actuations on the shutter.

I have 2 1TB drives in my computer, so I've got plenty of space for storage :)
Oh, interesting!

Why should I format my SC card regularly? I would think that'd be hard on the flash memory.
I got an Ultra, it was relatively cheap at a local Walgreens :)

I don't think there'd be much of a difference between Ultra and Extreme with my K-5. I'd think the internal computer would be the limiting factor for writing to the SD card and not the card itself.
What image processing am I using? What do you mean?

Thanks!
Here are some more landscapey-ish shots. There isn't much for landscape where I live, though, just lots of fields.

Yeah, I'm already having a tone of fun!
Does the allowance get reset every month or something?
I am on Instagram, but it's more of a personal account. I'll just try to upload photos on this forum or get a flickr account or something similar :)

Everyone has been more than helpful here, so I might as well ask questions.
I'll try to take a more landscapey shot.

Yeah, I'll add the lens to the database!

Thanks! Good luck to you as well!

Here's some photos I took with my new K-5!
The one that's really dark and underexposed is the first photo I took. it's of this gigantic caterpillar just outside my window.
The pictures are a little out of focus, but that's alright.
I used my Hoya 52mm diopter kit for the macro-ish shots.

Anywho, what do you guys think?

Those Edixa Flex cameras look pretty neat. I'll have to look into them a bit more sometime!
And yeah, having fun is definitely the point for me. Which is why I like manual lenses, they're just so much more fun!

I was able to get some money earlier than I thought, so I jumped on a good deal for a K-5! It was $250, but had a really low shutter count and came with all of the in-box items.
It's estimated to arrive Monday.

Thank you all for all the input and suggestions!

I plan on asking more questions and starting up more threads once my camera comes. I'm excited to get my first DSLR. Glad I'm getting a Pentax, especially after looking at the prices for similar specced Nikon or Canon cameras and their lenses.

But yeah, thank you everyone!

What's the use case for extremely high ISO?
Posted By Ropuchy
Replies: 43

Alright. So the general idea is that the high ISO improves performance of lower ISOs, is useful for checking your shot in astrophotography without having to wait several minutes, helps to capture those one-chance sorts of shots, allows low light and high DOF shots to turn out better, and gives Pentax some bragging rights and makes their marketing department happy.

Did I miss much?

Thanks for all the replies!

Yeah, I love the interchangeability of the K mount as well!
One of the primary reasons I'd be getting a Pentax DSLR, I get to use their gigantic library of quality lenses from many different generations.

And wow, that's a very nice collection! The older, more geometrically shaped lenses look great! And the cameras look like they're in great condition as well!

I've seen some magnificent M42 lenses. Maybe I'll be able to get an adapter to get them to work on my K1000 or future DSLR.

Yeah, I bet!
I wonder why you don't see more with that pattern/texture. I think it looks better and is more practical than the standard.
Maybe it wasn't in fashion at the time?

Thank you all for all the great info and suggestions!

I definitely don't have the time to respond to all of your messages, but the general consensus is that I should look out for a good deal on a K-5, and that the K10D lacks low light performance but captures color in well lit photos very nicely.

To clarify what I meant when I said that I wanted something that could shoot in low light or of the stars, I meant something better than my phone, which gives very grainy images in low light and can't 'see' stars at all, even with very long exposure times.
So, I'm thinking the K10D would be a dramatic upgrade over what I currently have.

Unfortunately I don't have the money at the moment to get any of the deals you guys have been linking to me, but I really appreciate you spending the time to find them!

I'm in no hurry to get a DSLR, so I've got plenty of time to keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on a K-5 when I've got the money.

I'll plan on saving for a K-5 for the time being.

Thank you all for all the input! I'm surprised how many people have pitched in with their opinions and suggestions, all while being very kind! Not how I'm used to forums turning out...

Ah, alright. I'll try to keep the sensor type in mine while I do more research and whatnot.

The K-x model has been recommended a couple times, so I'll have to have a more in-depth look at it.

---------- Post added 07-31-18 at 04:25 PM ----------

That's a good deal! I'll have to look around in the forums for sales posts and whatnot.
Thanks!

---------- Post added 07-31-18 at 04:28 PM ----------

Yeah, purely cosmetic scuffs and scratches don't bother me at all. My K1000 is a little beat up, but it's great!
I'll keep the K10D in mind while I explore other options.
Thanks for the input!

---------- Post added 07-31-18 at 04:31 PM ----------

Thanks for providing an alternative option! I've been mainly looking at Pentax cameras because I am unable to keep track of what other cameras can use their lenses with adapters and whatnot.
Those are some nice photos!
Thanks.

---------- Post added 07-31-18 at 04:33 PM ----------

Alright. I'll think about it.
Thanks!

Hello.

I'd like to get into some more serious digital photography (Serious in comparison to using my phone), and would like to get a Pentax camera.
I have a K1000 SE that I got with 5 lenses for $10 and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I'd like to be able to use these lenses instead of getting new ones.

All the lenses are manual. One has aperture priority, but the K1000 doesn't have the ability to use that feature.

Anywho, I'd be looking for a DSLR that would fit my lenses and allow me to take pictures in low-light conditions or of the stars (Something my phone can do, but is very poor at.)

I don't have a lot of money, so older, used cameras would probably be the realistic options. I've looked at the *ist D and K10D, which both look nice and can be found for alright prices (Especially the *ist D), although the K10D has weather sealing.

What do you guys think?
