Shooting in daylight. One frame is perfect, then a few of the same scene will be very underexposed. Later, exposures are back to normal.

I have two very nice ESII bodies and various lenses that I thought worked fine! Recent film processing indicates that some exposures are fine, then the next few frames of the same scene are very underexposed!! The meter indicates correctly, but exposures are WAY OFF! Almost to the point of not being exposed. What gives!

Spotmatic F meter?

All of my SMC lenses react the same way. I have about 8 from 24mm to 200mm. Great info! I also have a few versions of the Russian Helios 44. I will check them in stop down mode. For now, I will simply adust my ASA to 1280 when using 400 speed film.

The meter is smooth and responsive. But why the discrepancy from open aperture m I mode and stop down mode?

Spotmatic F meter?

I have a very nice F that works fine, but the meter has me baffled. I have tried a variety of batteries and meter gets power. I'm using variety of SMC Pentax lenses.
When using the camera in full aperture mode, I have to set my ASA 2 stops faster to get an accurate reading. In stop down mode, the meter is dead on at normal ASA setting. What is going on ?

Thanks! So......Stop down metering only. I presume the ESII bodies would have to be in stop down mode to meter.

Pentax Extension tube ?

I just received a mint set of extension tubes for my Pentax. These are M42 mount with pins to connect to aperture. What is metering method with my Spotmatic F or my ESII bodies? It seems the meter on my Spotmatic F functions only when I activate the stop down button on the camera body. I was hoping the pin connection would allow full aperture metering! Maybe not..I am especially curious about using on my ESII bodies. Thanks!

Russian 300 f4.5 Photo-Sniper vs Pentax 300 smc f4

Anyone compared the Russian 300mm against the Pentax 300mm? I have the Russian version and it seems very good optically, but awkward to use. I am more interested in the optical comparison between the two. I am considering a Pentax just because of the more convenient use with metering, etc. Thanks.

Spotmatic focus issue

Just found a Spotmatic at an estate sale with a 50mm 1.4 lens....Cheap! Focusing through the finder is very odd! The image is soft. The camera and lens is in very nice shape. ALL glass is clean. Not sure how to diagnose. I have tried my other lenses and same look. Mirror is clean. Any ideas?

Spotmatic F metering puzzle

Thanks! I will check the manual. I presume that stop down metering should be accurate with my Russian Helios lenses. I need to check against my handheld meters. I do not think my batteries are suspect. I have tried every battery combo out there and the meter responds the same.

When metering at open aperture (Auto) my reading is off my 2 stops, but when I meter in stop down mode, the reading is accurate. I am using smc lenses and they seem to couple well with the body. What is going on here? Thanks!

Help with purchasing a film camera.

I LOVED my MX, but had to add the winder so it could fit my hands! The MX was tiny compared to the Canon F1 I had been used to. For a Canon body, I LOVE my EOS 650! It is light and does everything I want. It even has auto film advance. I bought a different grip that allows a cable release . You may want the 620 model. Very cheap on Ebay for a clean one. Good luck!

Does the micro prism in the view finder clear up completely at infinity? None of my lenses do that.

I like to shoot around our house, our neighborhood and friend's backyards. I always carry a camera. This was shot at half time during a Kansas City Chiefs game on TV. Never know what will catch your eye while heading to the outhouse.

Lens barrel issue.

Thanks for the link on the 35mm f3.5! It may help. I found a disassembly page for a 50mm 1.4 Super Takumar on a Chris Sherlock site. I would post here, but not sure how. When I have time and patience, I may open my lens up and see what's up. My easiest solution was to buy another lens on Ebay last night. Thanks again.

Lens barrel issue.

I have a very nice Super-Multi-Coated 50mm F1.4 (8 blade) (screw mount) that has an annoying wiggly front barrel. The front element does not move, but the barrel that surrounds it , holding the filter and hood wiggle. It appears it needs tightening somewhere behind the focus ring. Any easy fix? I can put up with it, but annoying and hope it does not fall off entirely some day! Thanks for any help on this.

I just tried meter with MR-9, 625A, and 357/76 batteries and all read 1.5 stops off. I will adjust ASA accordingly. Not perfection, but ballpark. You can only scan and fix so much.

I have tried MR-9, 625A and 357/76 batteries and all read 1.5 stops off.. I will adjust my ASA accordingly. I am in the ballpark so I can at least anticipate what I will get. You cannot scan and fix a negative 1.5 stops off and expect to get anything good.

---------- Post added 11-07-19 at 06:37 PM ----------

Thanks, but I know perfection is unreasonable, but I am in the the ballpark now. You cannot expect to scan and fix a negative 1.5 stops off and get anything like you shot! I have compared today the MR-9, 625A and 357/76 batteries and all read 1.5 stop off. I will adjust ASA accordingly and bracket if possible.

I'm not sure what's going on, but in lower light conditions, the meter is more accurate! There may be some sort of linear metering issue with my cameras and not the battery. Later.

Hopefully, you have not ordered one yet! I just received my MR-9 adapter today and no change in my meter accuracy . I just wasted $33.00, but that 's how it goes in our desperate search for perfection.
