So i've had my LX for a few months. Its been great! I LOVE this camera! I stopped shooting for the past maybe 3 weeks or so. Pulled the camera out of the bag and noticed something odd. The LED lights are flashing instead of staying steady. I haven't changed the battery just yet, as I didn't have any on me. Last night I started using the camera. I was at f4 at 1/60th. there were a couple of times the mirror locked up on me. And I had to change the shutter speed for it to unlock. I'm REALLY hoping this isn't the "sticky mirror" syndrome happening, or the electronics going bad. Anyone have any insight?

The extra's with this particular find is what prompted the purchase. The lugs, grip, 40m f2.8 lens, and the 280T flash. Plus the camera seems well taken care of. And, I didn't realize both of the photos would show up in this one post. Sorry about that. Yes, it was deliberate. Was just trying some fun stuff with this gorgeous piece of art (the LX that is).

Hope this works. Here it is, my (new to me) LX! Just changed out the focusing screen to a beattie grid screen found on eBay. MUCH brighter then the one that came with it.

After messing around with it I finally went from f2.8 to f22 and tried it. I guess I had a different idea of what DOF view was. I thought for some reason at f2.8 it would show you what would be in focus and what wouldn't. for me being a n00b, could you explain why one would need DOF view at f22?

Thats what I've been doing while trying to figure out double exposures and some other experimental stuff. Just so I can see the results and figure out how to make it better.

I cannot figure out how to add pics on here....

I just received the LX....... It's GORGEOUS!!!! All shutter speeds work. Auto works great, bulb mode as well. Film advance is smooth. The shutter!!!! Oh the shutter sounds like a dream come true!!!! Feels great in my hands. Loaded a roll of film to go and shoot this afternoon. The only thing I can't figure out is the DOF view. It doesn't seem to change the view at all when I use it. Not sure what's going on there. Self timer works... I don't know what else to say other than this sexy beast is finally here, and I can't wait to go shoot some frames off!!!

I ordered the LX last week. It was scheduled to ship out on Friday. It arrived in customers in Chicago yesterday. Supposedly it will be to me tomorrow. Super fast shipping. I ordered a grid focus screen off of eBay. I can't wait to get it, and I'm hoping it'll actually work. I plan on rolling a small 12 frame roll of hp5 to try it out when it gets here. I'm soooooo stoked and can't help but be impatient. I keep clicking refresh on the tracking info, waiting for it to say it reached Kansas...

I bit the bullet and purchased it. It was worth it for the grip, 280T flash, and M 40m f/2.8 lens alone.

So I found one on eBay. It's alittle more than I wanted to pay. But comes with flash and a 40m lens that I've been wanting as well. The description isn't the best, it's from Japan. I've messaged the seller yesterday but haven't received a response. Just asked if it have the sticky mirror syndrome, and if the shutter worked all the way around. This is the description of the item. It also states that there is a 30 day return. Hard to believe that since he hasn't responded to my question. All of the feedback is positive on his seller page. He has been selling on eBay since April of '19. Is this enough info to purchase it? The pics look great! Except, no pics through the view finder.. here's the description:

I used to change shutter speed like this on my k1000. But I noticed there were times that my finger would somehow lift the shutter dial a bit, which would then change the ISO. It sucked the first time it happened. To find out at the end of my roll that My ISO was between 1600 and 3200 on the dial. I now just drop the camera from my eye to change it with both finger and thumb. Which even on the k1000 can be alittle annoying since the space is small. This is one of the reason's I decided against the MX. I was afraid it would be just like my k1000, but that the space would be even smaller for my fingers. Sucks, cause it looks like such a gorgeous camera. And I do love the size of the ME a friend let me borrow.

I was out bid on a beautiful LX today. And it was in the states. I've been chatting with the owner for over a week now. So I know it was still in working condition. Hard to purchase from Japan with the security of it having a fresh roll of film ran through it

Thank you for the response. I have been going crazy thinking about all of this. The MX, and KX seem to be right next to each other on my list. And I'm sure I would be happy with either, probably the KX more. With that I read another post where someone said something similar as you did. Buying another camera and still wondering about the LX. I've been thinking about one for the past year or so. I have a perk with my job. Instead of giving me a raise, they give me points. After so many points you can either go through their website and purchase items (TVs, Laptops, Vacation packages etc.) with the points. Now, these items are WAY over priced. And if you just opt for the gift cards with your points, you can actually find the items they are selling for cheaper, and usually have some extra cash left over. I have enough points to cover purchasing a camera. So, when it comes to initial cost of purchasing a camera, I honestly can take a pick between all three. Now, if I go with a KX i'll have more money left over, and could just purchase a 100 ft roll of tri-x. Or, go for the gold and get the LX. After much consideration, and knowing that a camera body is a light box, and I can take the same crappy photos I do with any light box. I think I've narrowed it down to just getting the LX. If later on down the road it needs repairs, hopefully I'll have enough points saved through work to get those repairs done. In fact, I have enough points left over I could send it in and spend 200 bucks on a CLA and repairs. Thats IF the repairs only cost that much. I was quoted from Eric that it could be a 200-300 repair job. Of course, this is with out him seeing a camera, and the one that I have found on Ebay is still is fantastic working condition.

Yes, i'm sure I would be happy with a KX, or the K2. But I'm left wondering about the LX... My thought was I would get the LX, and maybe a KX later down the road. I do like the idea of using AE from time to time. I'm like you and enjoy going full on manual. The 1/2000 shutter speed on the LX will be an improvement alone from the k1000 (not sure what the top shutter speed of the KX is, I'm to lazy this early in the morning to Google it.) I just figured, if I'm spending money that I wouldn't normally have, why not go for the camera I'm REALLY lusting over?

Anyway, thank you for your response, and you're probably right, I should go for the "cheaper" camera. Have money left over for film and chemicals. I still haven't received the gift cards just yet, so I may have changed my mind by that point. The LX just has a few features that I haven't seen in any other SLR. The accurate film counter, being able to rewind the film and do multi-exposures on the exact frame your wanting to do it on. The metering off the film plane, AE, size, etc.... I could be going down a rabbit hole with the camera, I just have to find out for myself I guess...

The electronics issue has to do with the LED staying on for longer than 30 seconds after the shutter has been fully fired and released. At least that is the information this YT video is claiming

Very interesting. I had never heard of that. I timed it using the stopwatch on my phone. The first time, the LED stayed on for 26.2 seconds after firing the shutter. The second time, it stayed lit for 25.2 seconds. The third time, 24.8 seconds. Whether those variances are due to my coordination, or lack thereof, it seems that it's going off in under 30 seconds. according to the YouTube video if the LED light stays on for longer than 30 seconds after you have fired the shutter. Then that is a sign that the electronics are going out.

I have found a gorgeous LX on ebay. I saw a YT video earlier today that mentioned if the LED lights stay on after the shutter is pressed all the way, then the electronics are going out on it. This seller says that "the LEDs stay on when the shutter is fired. A half-press gets the LED going and it switches to the different shutter speeds as I point the lens towards different light. If I don't press the shutter all the way, it turns off after roughly 25 seconds. If I fire the shutter, the LED stays lit."

Anyone with this camer that has had the electronics go out, or know the signs to watch out for. Is this one of the signs? he said he just finished shooting a roll in this camera a couple of days ago.

I've had my eye on an LX for over a year now. I'm about to pull the trigger and purchase one from Japan on Ebay. Just curious how the LX is holding up for you? Any of the mirror issue's? Its an investment it seems to own one. Oh, and are you still happy with your purchase?
