I apologize. I thought I responded earlier but am known for missing the “send” button. This shot was 4-5 ft with a long zoom. Basically be longest decent lense I own up as close as I could get and still focus. Maybe that’s not how the pros would do it but I’ve got to work with what I’ve got. Also, if it helps, look into “trap focus”. It’s different on a Pentax than a canon but the concepts are roughly the same. Think of it this way, your camera has all the makings of an automated machine tool controller. Computers, sensors, meters, servos, all tied to letting in the right amount of light, for an in focus image. Trap focus turns the process upside down to allow your camera to wait for the subject to come into the field of focus you have chosen ahead of time and let the camera decide when it detect something in focus and takes the pic. It’s not a new process but it’s new to me. I hear it’s often used with wedding shots for example to capture that one opportunity when the bride a groom head down the isle. Obviously it’s not bad for skittish hummers

Ive tried numerous lenses but found I got the best results with the longer zooms (250 in this case but have seen others use up to 500. I was about 4-5 feet away (as close as I can get and still focus) while using a trap focus and I think a flash to help fill in shadows despite the natural sunlight.

They are really aggressive over here. They battle out strategic games of defense, offense and rest periods where they have to refuel and just get along. I’ve heard them body slam each other so hard it sounds like a small hand clap.

At first I thought he was a beaver but later figured out he was a Marmot. He was very curious and would follow me as long as I was staying out of his safe zone.

I took this shot of a young man who sees his mother for the first time since he left for boot camp. Maybe it’s my bias but I read so many levels expression in the faces.

Admittedly cropped but an interesting storm cloud, light, rainbow almost appears as an archangel flowing down to the left....
Or the FTD florist if that suites you better
