No astrotracer? No EQ mount? No problem.
Just stack.
And stack.
And stack some more.
Then you stack.
And stack again.

An interesting little packaged which was delivered by Canada Post on a Sunday. I burned out the fungus (none internal) on the lens with hydrogen peroxide. However, I may need to use some ammonia to eliminate the "shadow" of the fungus on the glass.

After reading through this thread, it got me interested in seeing what my K-5 could do last night. Considering that it was unmodified and horrible astronomy conditions with haze, cloud and the night before a full moon; I'm actually impressed with what it was able to do with my 28mm @ f2.8 & ISO 1600 with a 20 second exposure. It's enough to make me wonder if I should go after a faster 28mm.

I don't expect anything special or even good. However, the chance to play with an extremely long lens (1-4 meters!), no matter how slow or poor quality images, was too tempting to not gather all the adapter parts for it. That and I'm in it for less than $100 total.

Well, if I had any doubts that Magnicons were rebranded Tokinas... (Finally got the SH-522 hood for it.)

And now I have purchased my third Sigma KA zoom. A 70-210mm to go with my 75-210 & 75-300. Good thing that there is only one more that I have any interest in or else I would have a problem.

So after attempting to disassemble my Sigma λII 75-300mm and putting it back together again, it suddenly has turned into a very good Macro lens. While it does have interesting possibilities in this current state, that's not what I bought it for.
There were no leftover parts and I know that it has something to do with how the front elements are reassembled. However, I'm at a loss as to how to correct it. I am considering buying a second model as a parts source and I should be able to use it to solve the problem once I have it. However, I would like to figure out this problem before it would arrive.
Thoughts?

I'm currently having trouble getting past 4 weeks without a new lens purchase. :S (Mind you, I'm currently in the arsenal building phase of SLR photography and haven't had a "Why do you need this when you already have that?" moment yet.)

A Sigma "Lambda II" MF 75-300mm f4.5-5.6. Some fungus and the aperture ring is a touch stiff. (Not that big of an issue with a KA lens.) I heard good things about the lens and figured it was a good candidate for an eBay "as is" repair gamble.

Most importantly, it will give you a better understanding of what you actually need when you decide to buy your next lens.

One thing to keep in mind is that the K5's AF is temperamental in low light conditions. So it's best to use lenses that have a decent manual focusing ring if you want to capture night games.

Short answer: the lenses.
I had two lenses when I decided to get back into SLR photography this year; a Canon 200mm FL and a Pentax-M 28mm. Guess which one wasn't "Abandonware"? :)

And it's images like this that are motivating me to look at building a barn door tracker. :)

The thing is, I actually did read it which is why I got concerned. The problem is, "and there will be no changes to the number of entries"can be interpreted in two ways: the 80 before the merger or the 240 overall.

Nice! :) This is the sort of image that I'm hoping to pull off by the time of the next North American eclipse in 2024.

Find your nearest pet store and us it as your "I need something today" spot. Kittens and puppies are very motivating. :) Just let the frequency of how often you buy things from them determine how often you go during a month.

That's the plan. I've taken over 700 over the past two weeks since I got the K-5.

Hi from the mysterious land of Ontario, Canada. :) I recently decided to get back into photography after a long hiatus. Starting with salvaging my 28mm f2.8 from my P30t, I've built up a collection of four lenses for my recently acquired K-5 (a 70-210mm F4.5, a 28-70mm f3.5, a 50mm f1.4, and the one previously mentioned) which I'm now looking to learn how to use them to their full potential.
