I find sometimes the auto HDR which can't be turned off in modern phones can create garish images- the midtones and shadows can look off sometimes.

I have a Canon 330HS point and shoot I got for free because it had a badly scuffed lens and it worked decently. I stopped using it because the auto shutter didn't open up, lens flaring was bad at times, and I had to manually jam it up, but it was a enjoyable experience. The value of having an optical zoom cannot be understated. Of course blown up it won't look good, but at regular size on facebook or instagram I doubt people will notice. This is with roughly half the pixels thrown out (cropped in more + optical zoom).

ISO 1250, 1/1000s, f/9, 300mm, some old Tamron 70-300.

I've eyed this bird for years, and I finally got a good capture, and on a Pentax. It's nothing exciting, but it has made me extremely happy.

As someone who has used the Olympus EM1II, Nikon D300, D7000, D800, and Z6 (skipping the lower end models listed here), I would whole heartedly put my recommendation for the Pentax K-3. It's a lot of camera for not a lot of money. What surprised me was how tenacious the subject tracking was, but unfortunately I didn't have a good telephoto lens that could keep up. As usual, i'm selling it because I like trying to different types of cameras and the K-3 has been with me for almost a year now and that's typically sell after having fun with them. I think i'll try to find a KS-2 or a K-70 next when that pops up in my area.

1/500S, f/7.1, ISO 320, 300mm

1/640S, f/6.7, ISO 3200, 300mm

I have Nikon FF and APSC bodies, but all the super telephoto lenses are too bulky, even the ones aimed at entry level!

I love the Panny and Olympus entry level super zooms! They're relatively lightweight, making it easy to switch out to a normal zoom or prime when you get off trails.

I am about to faint, someone hold me. I think I found the perfect camera for colours. This Kodak sensor... tears come out of my eye.

I bought it around winter time... but being up north there is only so much you can do. Now with spring entering.. hello :o

I thought i'd go walk around a park and snap aroud, did around 12km and my legs were tired at the end.

I over looked the bridge and there's still some ice in the river banks in April. f/4 1/320s iso 100 54mm

The colours just so so.. pleasing and yummy. f/3.5 1/160s iso 100 12mm

I have many photos from this walk... but this one makes me want to faint... it's so beautiful:asleep: I can't even. f/6.3 1/80s iso 100 12mm

Someone gave away their FZ50 when i was picking up their Panasonic GF3. I put it aside, but I tried it and was shocked with the results. It's honestly very competent in the image quality and feel department... if you're ok with the autofocus! The macro isn't bad either.

Edit: Weird I thought I had quick reply, this is for hjortron

I won't lie I can talk about Nikon lenses and my recommendations for bang per buck- but when it comes to Pentax I have zero clue.

Not too sure what the "gems" and "horribly plasticy but good optics" are for Pentax .

From the looks of it, any of the 28mm or 50mm Pentax A lenses are lovely eh? I'm stuck doing local shopping since in Canada, the shipping costs can easily make you forget about bothering to buy online.

Ahh, I sold my K-5 several years ago and i've missed holding onto one. I picked up a K-3 w/ two zoom lenses for 330CAD yesterday. Currently scouring the local area for a 28 or 50mm. Went for a walk and liked these three trees representing the life cycle of autumn.

SOOC JPEG, natural picture profile, WB set to shade, medium size, medium quality. Pentax 50-200mm @ f/9, 1/160S, 50mm, ISO 160.

I was out with a photowalk with a photography club today. My weapon of choice was the Panny GX1 + 12-35mm f/2.8 II. I met with two lovely people, one shooting a Ricoh GR (didn't catch which version) with a blue silver ring around the lens and a Pentaxian with a K-70.

I decided to further post process this one as I liked the angular look. A mess of the HSL sliders, cloning out the leaves, and a gradation filter. Ooh... if I could stamp some soviet bloc era posters in there. :D

Panasonic GX1 + Panasonic 20mm F/1.7 @3.2 ISO 160

I was walking around a small pond (floating boards to walk on) from a lake and saw this. We had a small heatwave week before this... so, a lot of dying organisms in there eh?

Really loving the 4K/6K photo mode that Panasonic has on their cameras. I'm not really a person that takes bird birds, but it makes easy and fun to capture moments.

I grabbed these frames from my computer using Avidemux exporting it to PNG. I then used Rawtherapee to do some post processing on the pictures (it was quite flat lighting, heavy clouds and rain). Both are red winged black birds, the first being female and second male.

I used my Panasonic G9 + Panasonic 45-175mm. I like the fact that this mode captures the full 4:3 sensor, instead of just shooting video which would crop to 16:9.

CANON R7 and R10,tomorrow.

I feel like this is typical Canon omitting random features that other brand users are familiar with, but also including class leading stuff. It is truly maddening at times.:hmm:

For example, mechanical shutter speeds of both R7 and R10 is 15FPS- that is just insane. Inversely, why are both sensors still FSI, not BSI? If the R7 suggests a 7D replacement, surely a stacked CMOS to help control video rolling shutter or shooting high speed electronic shutter would have been amazing. The R7 and R10 has some terrible video crop if you decide to shoot 4K60. Pentax and Olympus users as usual are confused with other brands just winging the inclusion of IBIS- Why does the R10 suddenly omit it?:hmm:

Also, have you seen the crazy good autofocus? People replying that their old DSLR or manual focus works fine need not to reply. If this segment was dead, why did Canon bother implementing excellent autofocus (if it is to believe by the media, algorithms lifted from their Canon R3)?

I can go on about the R7 and R10. They are honestly good cameras, but it really does seem like they're holding back their cards.

I managed to grab a dream lens I thought i'd never own, the Olympus 75mm f/1.8. Brand new in box (but "open box" in my local camera store) for 580 Canadian with full warranty, store and manufacturer.

I was having some fun today, shooting JPEG (Pop Art Filter) + RAW on my E-M1II. I saw a rare Triumph parked nicely near the high rise apartments.

Raw processed thru DxO Photolab 5, no DeepPRIME NR used.

I visited British Colombia last year. I was processing my pictures for a more fun vibe, more bright, more contrasty. Model in picture is my mom . W/o the heavy edit, the skies are less dramatic, along with the rocks showing detail and not crushed down in the shadows.

E-M1II w/ Panny 12-60mm @ f7.1 ISO 200 1/1250th

One thing am not too happy is the cropping.. unsure how to approach it.

I missed out on DxO Photolab sale last year, so finally picked it up this year. I've been using a copy I acquired sailing the sails ;), so it's nice to have a purchased copy now.
With winter here, am back looking into some photos I took this summer. I've been trying to experiment this year with trying to crush the dynamic range and giving it a punchier look. Both of these have RAWs that I can easily bring out the shadows and get highlight details back.

Olympus E-M1II + Panasonic 12-60mm f/3.5-6.5

This combo actually handles pretty well, and it seems the weather seals for the Panny and Oly are working well. I was next to a waterfall that was spraying mist and droplets around me. When I was back to a safe place, gave a quick pat down, and checked the lens mount - no moisture penetration. :)

What surprises me with the lens is the bokeh and out of focus areas. It is relatively smooth and pleasing, although the inner bokeh circles can evoke colour fringing. The latter part is honestly my only critique for this lens.

Oh no worries, Rawtherapee gets a lot use of from me! I actually would not know what to use if RawTherapee poofed away. I couldn't get a handle on Darktable, wasn't a fan of the UI. RawTherapee general daily driver for almost all my needs- but I do use a few other apps. for other purposes.

As for GIMP, shoutout to the wizards who can use it masterfully- unfortunately I prefer Photoshop's UI and controls :(. I don't think i'll keep my subscription long though, I guess it's not a shock for some, but i'm surprised about the not-so smooth performance. It's 2021, come on Adobe

Skylum's products for example (I have Luminar 3) makes it effortless if you have a well exposed picture to turn into HDR-like and (yes I know, these words) gives it a nice pop and brightness if your images call for it.

The other product I use is DxO Photolab's DeepPrime noise reduction. Amazing stuff, works really well. If you're not a fan of the extra touchups it does besides noise reduction, Topaz DeNoise leaves similar results, without the 'sharpness' and bite that a DeepPrime image has over DeNoise. I recently picked up over the years some "vintage" gear, Canon 5D and Nikon D200 and it cleans up nicely- although the Canon 5D images at high ISO sometimes is better off processed in RawTerapee.

:hmm: Yep.. I was quite hyped from seeing the marketing and videos about it. I'll see if I can find some other landscapes I can run through the neural filter.

Also, still disappointed at the general performance of Photoshop. Thankfully am on a 7 day trial. :D
