Hi folks, as a luddite I'm happiest with film cameras. Every now and then something of interest turns up. I have just acquired a camera labelled "XP1000" under the shutter release and "Explorer" on the prism housing. Its serial number is 1100017. In every respect it is a K type Pentax but with no Pentax branding.
The film advance is typical K type, rachet advance. The film speed and shutter speed are standard K type. There are two features which set it apart from other K types. It has a self timer but no depth of field preview and the focus screen has the central split prism with a microprism ring which I believe was not available except for later KMs.
It has a 50mm 1.7 unbranded lens which to all intents and purposes is physically identical to the SMC Pentax-M series lenses except for a minor difference in the pattern of the grip on the focus ring. The lens identification is " MC 1:1.7 f=50mm diameter 49 (circle with diagonal overlaid slash) and serial number 0209169 "
To my mind, it appears to be a prototype, perhaps for a third party vendor such as Sears or Vivitar. The usualy reliable Professor Google has led me up the garden path on this one.
Any contributions greatly received.
