Pentax FA 31mm on GFX?

Not a fan of the zoom as (at least for the FA version) it is not sharp at maximum focal length/full aperture. the 35mm and 75mm are my favorite. The 120 is the lens I use to digitalize my 120 films (645/6x7). For 35mm films i use the DFA 100mm on my K1 as the 2/3 ratio is more adapted. I sold my 200mm F/4 for 6x7 and 645 as i love the Pentax 67 165mm F/2.8 that i use instead, but they give strong results for very little money.

Landscape Contest (Medium Format Photos) Rue de Rivoli, Pari

May I say that, when taking this picture, I wasn't really sure about that sunlights and the enlighments of the Rue de Rivoli in Paris ?
This is typicaly an hard to expose picture, and I only use a phone app for my settings, which gives me sometimes disappointing results. Moreover, i was using a positive, KodakE100 film, which means : No margin for error !

But I really love the result, and the exposure was good ! The high contrast of the film makes an echo to the contrast between middle age and modern architectures. And the global look of the picture remind me my beloved 90's : I could envisage this as a cover for a grunge LP. A mix between the former modern look of positive film, and the logical flare that destroy the details that would appear in any other way with this set.

#15 is probably the more subtle way to embrace the contest's theme, but I like all the artistic interpretation of it, like 5 and 12.

.. hum ok I am a bird person ...

And there an atmosphere I like in the 3, the only one I would chose with vacationers.

K-1 and KP as a duo?

Few after i bought my K1, I realize that i did not use anymore my K-3...
- because crop mode on K1 was enough depite less pixel than a modern APS-C camera, it is almost the 16MP that my K5 produced back in time and still enough for most usages.
- because i sold my APS-C lenses to gain some place and to buy FF lenses instead ... then I have seen no interest to use a small APS-C camera to put on it big FF lenses (the old limited serie is an exception and are my most used lenses ... but 31-43-77 have less interest in APS-C than FF)
- because if i want a smaller backup kit, M43 have more interest than APS-C, but then again, beware of putting big lenses on that system (Olympus produce some gems that are smaller than FF equivalent but really big for a "small system").

If you want a backup system, I recommend having a K1 and a K1-mkII

lenses to stay clear of

I had this 80-320mm, and it was in fact very fragile, but the images weren't bad. Far better fcompared to the cheap Tamron 70-300mm that you may still found new but is a king of chromatic aberrations : unusable for sport, as colorful gears will create lot of horribles magenta halos... If you are on K1, the sigma 70-300mmAPO DG is the better option for a variable aperture compact zoom into these ranges. The old Pentax F 70-210mm is even better if you don't need to reach 300mm. On APS-C the 55-300mm has better reputation overall, the last version is a F/6.3 at the higher range, wich really is a problem for me at 300mm...

This thread is a no debate.
I have used a lot of 35mm, DA was enough, Sigma Art and Samyang 1.4 produces beautiful images with great aperture possibilities, but there is nothing like the FA 31mm limited.

To resume :

- Aperture is better than the DA 35mm2.4 or FA 35mm F/2
- 1.8 aperture is close enough to the F/1.4 possibilities
- It is autofocus, yes screw drive ... but much more efficiant than the silent Sigma 35mm F/1.4, especialy in the dark.
- it is not as tiny as the DA or FA option, but it still is a compact lense, when you compare to F/1.4 alternatives
- built quality is from another century, as it is not dust or water resistant, but this is an all metal lens, and it is still is a luxurious product with velvet cap and built in lense hood. Moderne option are more versatiles, but there is only one gem in the competition.

I didn't even speak about the images the FA 31mm produces. Yeah, not perfect, at wide aperture you will deal with chromatic aberrations, but in my opinion, less than with the 43 or 77mm. More important is that there is some Magic in every FA limited and this one is no exception, even if you will have less occasions to play with bokeh at this focal lenght (that i mainly use portraits in groups).
It is a good option for landscape and street when you don't need wider angle.

I must admit that i recently get a 28mm F/2.8 in bundle with a Pentax ME Super. I was really shoked how this old lens was sharp at F/2.8, and without the 31mm, I am sure i would use this lens a lot, but as I have the FA limited, i have no reason to ... and if fact, i am more at ease in the thirty something than at 28mm, if I want a wider angle, I like to work in the 20-24mm aera.
