Recently purchased one - near mint but might have a single dot of mold. I'd like to clean it. Is there a repair manual to be had somewhere? I haven't been able to find one.

Ricoh/Pentax new strategy: Shift to e-Commerce and "studio-style" manufacturing

If a cropped sensor is enough for you, that's fine. If you don't understand what you are giving up, that's fine. If you don't need the advantages, stay with a cropped sensor. As far as the YouTube video, it requires no real knowledge to make a video and slap it up there. Publishing a video doesn't make one an expert. There's more to medium format than buffers and depth of field. Larger sensors make for better reception of light and that translates into better images. If you are OK with all the work around technology in a DSLR sensor that has a pixel density well past what is both practical and optimal, have at it.

I have been a professional photographer for 15 years. I began with a Canon 10D and quickly learned to optimize image quality by working in RAW. From there we moved to the 1D series - full frame and RAW. When we were sponsored by Pentax, we moved to the 645D and then the Z. In all our commercial work, we use the Z with 645 lenses. For our fine artwork, we use 6x7 lenses on a 645Z, and we use the same lenses on a Pentax 6x7 using 6x7 lenses.

As I moved from JPG in the Canon 10D to the RAW, I could see the difference. As we moved from 1D through the Canon line to the 1DX, we could see the difference. Images from that Canon and similar full frame DSLRs do not hold up against the 645Z.

If you prefer buffers and frames per second, you are right, don't spend the money. If you are still setting your camera to JPG output, you are right, don't waste your money. If you can't see the difference, or take the word of a YouTuber over what is really the case, then don't waste your money.

I won't respond to further comments in this thread.

When they get serious - as in a new version of the 645Z - I will listen. Until then, no credibility. The idea that the medium format market was theirs - with the 6x7 and then 67 and then the 645 and then the 645Z - and they failed every time to capitalize, saddens me deeply. So, when I see a 100 MP 645Z or a 150 since that is where the medium format market will go - I regard this as another empty promise.

Given what little I can find out about the history of the 6x7, I am trying to determine when mine was manufactured. The serial number is 4142769. Can I assume this would have been made in the early 1980s, perhaps 1982-3?

Thank you. Your tethering program works fine. In fact, every bit as good as the Pentax software. Do you want suggestions?

As far as this problem, I finally found a human in Canada who passed this problem on to Japan. It seems that without .NET 4.5 or higher, this application will not run. Except, I have version 4.8 installed. No word back yet.

ImageTransmitter 2..4.1 Problem

Thanks. I downloaded it. Several questions:

1. Will this support WiFi from the 645Z natively - I don't recall if the 645Z has built in WiFi.
2. I have the Visual C++ 2017 redistributable?
3. Obviously, I run the .BAT file. Do I attach the camera first? Is there a UI launched when I run the .BAT?

The only substantial differences between the two computers, the Surface Pro and the P65, is (a) speed - the P65 is faster, (b) the P65 has two video boards. Other than that, all the software is identical except for the NVidia control center and Dragon, a system monitoring app from MSI.

Pentax 645Z.
PC Configuration: MSI Predator P65: Intel i7 6 core processor up to 4.2 GHz. 32 Gig RAM, dual video boards - Intel and NVidia Geforce GTX1060 with 6 gig v-RAM, 1 TD solid state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

We installed ImageTransmitter 2 from DVD then updated to 2.4.1.

If we open the software first, then attach the camera and turn it on, the software terminates without warning. If I attach the camera, then launch the software, nothing happens. The software appears to load but never does. I have the most recent firmware installed on the 645Z, 1.30.

This works on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with 8 gig RAM, Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit.

1. The computer sees the camera and I can copy files to and from the camera.
2. If I open the software first, the camera shows PCP in the top LCD and the LCD on the back goes dark.
3. I've tried all the USB ports - I have 3 USB 3 ports and a USB-c. No better using any other the other USB ports.

645Z, bulb mode, 55-100 MM 6x7 lens

Yes, 60 seconds at F22 should have worked. It didn't - the image was over exposed at 5 seconds. So, something is very wrong

Yes, that reformulation of the question works. I am using the Pentax adapter.

So, I just took the lens and camera out. The word "Auto" is showing on the barrel of the lens, so, I assume this means the lens is set correctly.

645Z, bulb mode, 55-100 MM 6x7 lens

Let me begin by saying that, prior to moving to the 645Z, I was a long time Canon 1Ds series user. On my 1Ds Mark III, I never had an issue using blub mode. Press the shutter. Hold it for the desired time, then release. Or, use a release. Been there. Done it. No issues.

So, today I went to a waterfall with the 645Z, a 6x7 55-100 MM lens. I took my exposure out to 30 seconds by using an aperture of 14, an ISO of 100. Then I decided I'd push past 30 seconds by increasing my aperture to 22. I set my mode to Bulb, pressed the shutter and started to count. I stopped at roughly 5 seconds. The whole image was over exposure. Next, I took out my cell phone, and as close to 5 seconds as I could, I pressed the shutter and watched the counter on the phone. 5 seconds later, same result. Long story short, I discovered that anything past roughly 1.5 seconds resulted in overexposure. Just to make sure, I changed my aperture from 22 back to 14. Switched to manual, took the same photo, no exposure problems.

I thought perhaps that there was an option I didn't know about that switched to Auto ISO. I put the camera back in Bulb, checked the ISO, it was still at 100.

Anyone having any idea what's going on?

Filters for 6x7 55-100 MM Lens

This lens has become my all-time favorite.... I use it on my 645Z using a Pentax adapter. The images are simply amazing. However, there are situations where I need longer - much longer exposures - or where I need more control over the light in a scene. I am a professional so I can't use filters that are sub-par, however, I prefer not to spend more than I need to.

1. Will a generic 95 MM screw on filter fit?
2. Does anyone have experience with a rectangular filter system on this lens?
3. Does anyone have experience with Irix? Benro? Sirui?

I appreciate your help.

67 to 645D and Z lens adapter

Is manual focus that difficult? When you are visually impaired, yes. I am forced to wear specially designed sun glasses all the time - even inside - because my irises do not work. So, any help I can get, I will accept.

Additionally, when the lens arrived, I expected it to be manual focus only. However, at the base of the lens is a "switch" that says auto on one side, and manual on the other. Obviously, I don't have the user manual so I have no idea what that is for. I theorized auto diaphragm but thought I'd ask people who might have been doing photography long enough to know. I purchased my first camera in 2002 and that was digital. I have never worked with film.

67 to 645D and Z lens adapter

Recently, I purchased a 67 55-100 and a Pentax branded 67 to 645 adapter. Apparently, only AV and manual focus are supported. Is there an adapter that supports autofocus? Also, when I connect my 645Z to Image Transmitter 2 with that adapter on camera the software tell me that the camera is not connected. Is there an adapter that will allow the software to recognize the camera is connected?
