To me, the KP always felt a little undervalued when released, I read a few review outlets that even questioned its existence with the K-70 providing better value and it not being a true K3 successor. I bought one anyway, and have always thought it is a brilliant camera. To this day I would argue that it can render some of the best images from any APS-C sensor, and it's a shame to see it go with so little fanfare. We are going to look back on the KP as one of the "good ones" and hopefully it's design can serve as an important stepping stone to future models.

The KP can be had right now brand new for about $750, come the holiday season that will drop even further. I got my KP last holiday season for around $700 so I would bet it would be even less coming up. Of course, it makes some sacrifices to what other pro-APS-C's might have (dual card slots etc.) but pound for pound I find the image quality to be fantastic. The one improvement I would look for in the K-new is the autofocus system, but I find the autofocus on the KP to do the job in almost all situations I put it through (depending on which lens I'm using). The ergonomics might also improve, but if you don't mind the smaller overall size of the KP I would say you should consider the KP when you can get a deal. Then you can use the money you save to buy another lens :D

I agree, if Ricoh could somehow get a big improvement over the KP in terms of image quality that would be a huge feat. It's one of, if not the best, APS-C cameras in terms of performance on the market. Really looking forward to see what they can come up with though, certainly an exciting time!

Yeah, I know there are overall limitations with the Pentax focusing systems compared to some of the newer mirrorless, but the movement of the water is generally slower than a ball moving in the air for sports photography, so I've been content with making those sacrifices in favor of value and ruggedness. All that being said, I think I'm at the point now that I'm done with screwdrive :D

It seems like this is the clear winner, I have to admit I wasn't even considering the newer version of the 55-300. If PLM was so successful I wonder why it wasn't used for the 70-210? Hopefully it gets implemented in more lenses in the future.

I'm in the market to upgrade my DA-L 4-5.8 55-300 for surf photography. I always found the autofocus on the 55-300 to be too slow to reliably get the waves in focus, especially with waves coming straight ahead. The review on the Forums for the FA 70-210 F4 mentioned how fast the auto-focus performed but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there were any opinions on which K mount zoom is considered to have the fastest and most reliable autofocus? I shoot with the KP so either DA or FA suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Jason

Hello everyone,
I have been a Pentax user since 2013 with the K-500 and recently more so with the KP. I primarily shoot in-water ocean/surf and seascapes.I have been a longtime reader of the forums and officially joined a few years ago but only recently decided to get more involved. I've always been impressed with he knowledge and overall sense of community here so I'm looking forward to joining the discussions!
