Bought my K200D new, but it’s semi retired now in favour of the k1 and a Nikon mirrorless.
But, it’s got the DFA 100 macro permanently mounted for spring time!
Enjoy the camera!

Definitely both. I use full-frame (K1) at home with primes and sometimes an off-camera flash, to do family pictures (kids mostly). The higher dynamic range and ability to push ISO, plus higher resolution allows for much easier cropping. The size and weight don't bother me much as it's in a controlled environment with primes which are lighter weight.
But for outdoors: APS-C with zooms, all day long

Hi, I am assuming your full-frame is a K1? Just a lovely camera. I also have the K1 with a number of fast primes, and nothing could possibly replace it, except a K1 iii :D
I just retired a K200D (previously had a K3 and ist* DS)
I have a very nice Pentax DA* 50-135 f2.8, and the just-okay DA Limited 20-40 f2.8 to f4, plus a good if not fast 12-24 f4.
It is just a fact the Nikon Z50 APS-C body is smaller and weighs less than any Pentax, or Nikon APS-C DSLR camera. Add any equivalent Nikon Z zoom + the Z50, and it's going to be shorter, and weigh less. I know because I have done that.
Does it mean the Z50 takes better pictures? No. I love my K1, and nothing will replace it. But the Z50 is smaller and half the price of a K3iii, even though I have existing good quality Pentax zooms. I would have bought a Pentax if there was something that compared to the compactness of the Nikon.

Sure, but what you actually said was: “use anything other than a wide angle prime and you'll have a decent sized package to deal with.“

Some great points here. @surfar is right: the mobile phone outranks every single dedicated camera. My oh my! Times have changed in the last decade.
Whether it's DSLR or Mirrorless, dedicated cameras are now in the realm of enthusiasts and professionals – it's an expensive hobby. I think it's still more fun shooting with a dedicated camera. But with computational photography jumping a generation every 2-3 years, plus some features like photos with integrated burst mode (iOS Live photos), automatic stacking, very good to near-perfect autofocus, instantly pocketable -- it's tough to compete with a phone for convenience and consolidated cost.
Dedicated cameras still have advantages - such as ergonomics, flashes, filters, and brighter lenses if you can afford them. (Speaking of which, I noticed Pentax lenses are quite affordable in comparison to other manufacturers; thank you Pentax!) We used to buy cameras for wide angles and telephotos, and now practically every mainstream phone has those.
Still, I'm sporting three dedicated cameras including one mirrorless. At the end of the day, if the gear gets us taking more shots, and it's bringing joy, than every camera or phone is worth the memories they make. No point to stick to some dogma, that DSLR is the best and only option. Sorry, that's just refusing to adapt and accept that the world changes, and always has.
Happy shooting ---------- Post added 11-30-23 at 10:43 AM ----------

Long time lurker - long loyal Pentax history (still using family purchased takumars from the 70s).
I have a K1 with a number of fast primes (35, 43, 50, 77, 100) which I use primarily for home shooting with a remote flash. I was using a K200D with zooms (12-24, 20-40, 50-135) for outside. I was looking for an upgrade path, but just couldn't justify dropping $2k canadian on the K3 III, and even buying a used KP is excruciatingly expensive
Meanwhile the partner has a Nikon D5300 and a few primes + DX zooms for it, so I thought about a D500 or mirrorless. Ended up getting a used Z50. It replaced the K200 as a light APS-C, and I am loving its size, fast AF, solid EVF, and live view (with AF that actually works). It's well built and solid. Can it replace the K1 with a fast prime, nope. But it dang sure is way more portable, and offers differentiation in usage (not more of the same DSLR). Nikon have done wi-fi transfer admirably better. It will be my outside / indoor candid photos tool moving forward.
Pentax is missing something by not offering a MILC; because some of us want alternative ways to shoot. So now I'm buying Nikon zooms...
as far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter what is bought, as long as it results in more keepers

The k1 is an ageless camera… it is built like a tank and produces fantastic images. It is the only full frame I’ll need. I imagine it will be considered a classic 50 years from now.
Congratulations on returning to a SLR

My father had a Pentax ME he bought in the late 1970s with several manual primes.
So it was an easy jump to a Pentax ist *ds given the backwards compatibility with m42 lenses. Then came a k200d, k3, and now a k1
I would however simplify my lens collection to primes - as i hardly ever use zooms - I just enjoy primes more

k1, no question. The low light and high iso capability, plus abilty to use 1:1 crop lens beats any aps-c pentax except if you need a light portable camera to hike with

Out of all the ff lenses I have- the 35mm f2, 50 macro 2.8, 77mm legend, the lense I am using the most on the k1 for paid work isn't even ff. It's the 50-135 in 1:1 crop mode. Would I buy a ff zoom - yes probably, but the 50-135 is doing good enough that my clients haven't asked for otherwise.

I've been using the 50-135 in crop 1:1 mode on a k1. It's become my most used lens photographing contemporary dance because it's compact and fast auto focusing. I am lucky to have a good copy I bought used.

The RP is pared down compared to the Canon R, everything is relative. There's a reason it's cheaper. A $900 kit lens is definitely expensive, when you compare it to the Pentax K1 kit lens; and sadly defeats the purpose of a cheap mirrorless. We will have to wait and see if it their lens is as good as the 28-105 for Pentax. [We're in a pentax forum after all!]
No debate mirrorless cameras are lighter and getting cheaper, and that benefits the overall market. But some of us are vested in Pentax, and we're such a small minority of global camera users. Here's hoping Pentax can continue to carve out their niche and survive.

Did anyone also notice how expensive Canon's 28-105 f4 kit lens is? It's $900 on top of the body! $2,199 for a pared down mirrorless is not a bargain. It looks like they are going the Sony route. $$$$ lens.
Full-frame bodies were always going to drop in price. I'm very happy with the lens lineup of Pentax though – the cost (imo) is much more affordable, and we get many unique ones (like the FA limiteds).

I keep it pretty simple: the DFA 50mm f2.8 macro, SMC 55mm f1.8, and for inside scenes and low light the 77 and the FA 35 f2. Waiting for a fast ultra wide.
I have several da zooms but use them with the k3 which is better for carrying long distances outside.

press your menu button
In the 4th screen for camera, you'll find Memory
It's likely the Sensitivity option was deselected ---------- Post added 02-08-19 at 01:18 AM ---------- I couldn't find a menu option for af either, but you can use the top lcd for choosing the focus mode. Press the Af Mode button on the left side of the mount and use the front and rear dials to change the settings. ---------- Post added 02-08-19 at 01:21 AM ---------- And you can use the delete button / meter button with the dials too, to change the metering via the top lcd

Lambic, you can easily find used K3s that are cheaper than a new K70, with fairly low mileage too. The k3 is an outstanding camera.

Ash, couple of things you can check: is the power output on the flash set to 1/1? Also both the camera and flash have compensation that can be set. Otherwise it could be distance/angle/reflectivity of the bounce.
(BTW my name is also Ash!)

It's often useful to turn off memory in the settings of the camera; I've had the same problem with exp comp on initial shots after a prolonged period between shooting- ie we forget its been set previously. Even more important now on the k1 and kp which don't have exp comp on a top lcd for easy refernce. Luckily, the k1 allows you to reset the exposure compensation between power cycles by disabling the memory for it. (By default memory is enabled, so you would have to turn it off in settings). I also disable drive memory and white balance.
